Tuareg rock youngsters are fatally hampered by bad production. Group Inerane is a new addition to the burgeoning "desert blues" or Tuareg rock scene coming out of North Africa, the same scene that produced Tinariwen, Terakaft, Etran Finatawa and, more recently, the likes of Bombino. Group Inerane is made up of three relative youngsters on guitar, bass and drums, with the addition of seasoned vet Absoulahi Maman on lead guitar. Not exactly a supergroup, the band nonetheless shows great promise. What a shame, then,...

Le Guess Who? machte Utrecht am vergangenen Wochenende zur Musikhauptstadt Hollands. Das exklusive Indoor-Festival überzeugte auf der ganzen Linie. "One of the better places for christmas shopping", urteilte Stephen Malkmus spasseshalber über Utrecht.

The picture will make sense in a second.... MP3: Group Inerane - Awal September
I'm still in recovery mode after my weird sickness bug this weekend, so I'm going to make this quick. I'm feeling a little bit better, thanks for asking. I spiked a bit of a fever last night but slept for almost 10 hours, and today just battled some sporadic chills and fatigue. I think I'll live. If I don't, oh well! It was fun while it lasted, right? Go read some other creep's blog. Happy birthday, mom. I hope you enjoyed your squirrel's paw earrings, made out of 100% pure squirrel's paw! You're gonna be the talk of [...]
This, the third volume in Sublime Frequencies exceptionally great Guitars from Agadez series, doesn't let up a bit in terms of sheer consistency. Two guitars, bass and drums, the music (described as the 'now sound' of Niger's Tuareg guitar scene) explores Saharan modes, rising and falling into electrified drones reminiscent of the electrified delta and [...]

It's LOST night. I can't be bothered to write a proper introduction. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week's mix includes a combination of cool tracks from older Sublime Frequencies releases (and please [...]
Without doubt, the most exciting guitar music in the world today is emanating from Saharan Africa... You may, for instance, have heard of Tuareg refugee supergroup, Tinariwen; or, if you're...
If everyone's listening to psychedelic trance rock, what do you do to stay one step ahead of the game? Listen to Tuareg psychedelic trance rock, of course. Group Inerane are an extraordinary outfit from Niger who mix traditional Saharan styles with electric guitar assault. This is a live recording, and it's hard to tell where the band ends and the audience begins. If, like me, your favourite parts of this track are the ululating cries, it may be that you'll have to get yourself down to Agadez to catch a few gigs. This is intense, [...]

Group Inerane is another fiery African installment from PIAIL. They make my headphones glow with yellow sand and electric guitars as I sit on the bus home, travelling through the grey rain and tired faces that are central London. The music is a combination of influences, passed down from older generations and diffused with snippets of global musical culture. It originated as a political tool in the 1980's and 1990's - as a way to communicate from Libyan Refugee camps. Since then the traditional styles have grown and blossomed into a style which shoulders the influences of psychedelia and western electronic instrumentation whilst holding secure to complex [...]
As part of our preparations for Love Saves the Day, and also in order to shape a worthy mixtape for the awesome El Guincho gig we were involved with a couple of weeks ago, we did some researches on African music, here you have a couple of gems unearthed in ...

Sublime Frequencies and Shadoks - two labels with a similar aim, to release the finest in obscure world music. I've dabbled in Sublime Frequencies offering of Thai Pop music previously . But now I have become spellbound by the sounds of Africa. Amanaz - Africa ( alt link ) Mid-1970's Zambian fuzzed out psych-rock. This song taken [...]

Thanks to reader, Linden Renz, I've spent the day de-compressing in my hyperbolic chamber while jamming to Group Inerane and the sound of their African psychedelic rebel music (is there any other kind?). According to their bio on the Sublime Frequences website, the record is "the sound of the Tuareg Guitar Revolution sweeping across the Sahara Desert, inspired by the rebel musicians that started this music as a political weapon used to communicate from the Libyan Refugee camps in the 1980s and 1990s." As I haven't spent much time in Libyan Refugee Camps nor the Sahara, I'll just [...]
Group Inerane - Kuni Majagani Group Inerane - Ano Nagarus Group Inerane - Telilite

Yesterday, I (Sean) shared my favourite songs of the year. Today the three of us talk in fewer words about our favourite albums. I've heard almost all of them and they're all fuckin' rad. Go buy some music for Christmas, late Hannukah, New Year, end-of-world, or your wedding night. DAN: Group Inerane - Guitars From Agadez (Music of Niger) (track: "Kuni Majagani") Frog Eyes - Tears of the Valedictorian [...]

1. Panda Bear - Person pitch ( Paw tracks ) MP3: Take pills Despite its psychedelic density and abuse of looping techniques and reverb, Person pitch rarely sounds willfuly complex or menacing and is ultimately a frothy and gorgeous pop record that keeps on revealing the more you dive into it. Noah Lennox has achieved something magical with this album and it's truly worthy of every accolade heaped upon it. 2. Radiohead - In rainbows ( self released [...]
I have just been pointed to the incredible Sublime Frequencies label. I've heard Group Inerane now, and I don't want to go home. I feel like we'll be hearing, if I may, game-changing things from this label. Group Inerane - "Kamu Talyat" I don't know what's out there, I don't know how old I'll get, and I can't stop thinking about what it'll be like tomorrow. I'd rather not speak, I can hear the soccer game down below in the town, but from this rooftop I'd rather keep it to myself. [...]
