Celebrating its 6th year, legendary artists made it out for this year's fest.

Sailor Jerry's now-infamous [and free] pop-up tattoo shops seem to be popping up more and more these days. Sometimes they're so impromptu and exclusive that they come off more like guerrilla tattoo-shops than pop-ups; like two degrees away from getting a stick-and-poke by your buddy in a basement while you're both wasted -just 'cause he had a gun. So basically, SJ's people have shit figured out. They know what we want -rum, tattoos, and garage bands- and they're giving it to us. So in that spirit, we nabbed a few slick images, taken [...]

This Heart Is A Stone [...]
One of the great things I love about Austin Psych Fest is the way the festival is slowly branching out beyond your stereotypical psychedelia into related territory. This is the perfect case for Cali's The Growlers , who do have some lineage, though I think their recent efforts put them well outside that spectrum. Honestly, this is the highlight for the festival in my opinion; I've been jamming to their most recent record Hung at Heart since it came out earlier this year. It has a definite California [...]
GRAPHICS BY SARAH HEINEMANN Festival season is upon us, and it's time for my favorite one of them all, Austin Psych Fest. It's still a relative baby, only in it's sixth year, but boasts a line-up that proves it's here to stay. For the first time, the event is moving out of a traditional venue and into the great outdoors - Carson Creek Ranch to be exact. They now offer weekend-long camping, the perfect way to really soak up those psychedelic reverberations. Bands don't start until the afternoon, giving you time to recover each morning before diving [...]
Californian psych rockers The Growlers kick off their UK tour tonight in Manchester, followed by two nights headling The Shacklewell Arms in London before rounding things off by the sea in Brighton on Friday (full info below). As a hint of what's in store for gig-goers, the band have unveiled their trippy new video for 'Row', featuring sun-bleached beach scenes and homemade props, covered in soft pastel hues. Watch it below... Watch The Growlers - 'Row' here: UK TOUR DATES: [...]

The Growlers combine garage-surf vibes with delightful psychedelicness- it's a sweet sound. This Dana Point, California five-piece have just released their latest album Hung at Heart . We wanted to find out a little more about the band, so The Growlers' vocalist Brooks Nielsen took the time to chat about being stung by bees while playing, Someday , and what they were doing before The Growlers began! AMBY: How would you describe The Growlers' sound to those unfamiliar with your music? The Growlers: [...]

To celebrate the start of the season, and to celebrate my brilliant idea to draft Chris Davis of the Orioles to like, four of my fantasy teams, I bring to you this wonderful mix that has nothing to do with baseball and has everything to do with being songs that I have been listening to a lot recently. Enjoy. 01 Unwed Teenage Mothers - Forever Until You Are Bones 02 Hypocrite in A Hippy Crypt - Freak Me Out 03 Ooga Boogas - It's A Sign 04 The [...]
I was going through songs I'd tagged on Shazam and realized that I'd never posted this great song from the Growlers! I've been hearing it pop up on WRFL ever since their new album Hung At Heart came out in January. "One Million Lovers" is a great track that sounds like a lost gem from [...]

![The Growlers - Hung At Heart [Track-by-Track & Stream]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4855505_lg.jpg)
"With psych-rock revivalist bands cropping up on both sides of the Atlantic, The Growlers are just one of many having to prove their worth as ones to watch. They have managed to evolve their brand of psych-rock over the past few years and have produced a much fuller, more diverse sounding record in the process. It seems going back to basics worked out pretty well for The Growlers." [ Read Full Review ] The Growlers recently released the wonderful Hung at Heart through Fat Cat Records (though the LP has been [...]

The Growlers released their latest LP Hung At Heart last month via Everloving/FatCat. So we already saw a great live performance video for "One Million Lovers" but this is the first true music video from Hung At Heart . It was shot in one day and directed by Taylor Bonin. It features one member in drag and several others as train-track-drifter sorts who are up no good but also purveyors of good vibes. So it's okay. Because that's what we're here for. I never thought I would have the opportunity to watch the chorus "When tallboys turn into [...]

Twang! The Growlers: Hung at Hearts Hailing from Southern California, the Growlers’ third album sounds like Roy Orbison on acid on a surfboard – the entire album seemingly put through a reverb meat grinder whole. I mean every little bit of this music echoes with thick reverb amongst other embellishments. The sound is unique and infectious and a lot of fun. My favorite track is definitely One Million Lovers, one of the best songs of the early year. [...]

If this review was not written for a site that reviews new music, you’d think I took the let’s-make-old-things-cool-a gain-hipster mentality a little too far and reviewed an old 60’s cassette on my grandfather’s old tape player. Granted, The Growlers identify their sound as Beach Goth, the lovechild of California surf rock of the 1960’s, psychedelia, and vaguely of the lo-fi luster of post-punk. Hailing from Orange County, California, The Growlers just released their third album, Hung at Heart . The Growlers command your attention. They’re a grittier modern day [...]
