The reunited Guided By Voices somehow released three full-length albums over the course of 2012; evidently, they couldn't wait to get back to their absurdly-prolific fighting weight. And they're already planning a new release: An EP called Down By The Racetrack , arriving next week. Check out one of its tracks, the wistful and sloppily catchy "Copy Zero," at Consequence Of Sound . Down By The Racetrack is out 1/22 on GBV Inc. Oh, and there's also another full-length album, English Little League , arriving 4/30.

Depois de lançar três álbuns no ano passado, o Guided By Voices não vai parar e já planeja o lançamento de um EP neste mês, além do álbum English Little League, que deve ser lançado no fim de abril. A primeira amostra desse material saiu hoje. A banda liberou a faixa Copy Zero , que estará no tracklist de Down by the Racetrack . O EP chegará às lojas em vinil e CD no próximo dia 22. Você pode conferir abaixo o primeiro gostinho do novo material do Guided By Voices e ler [...]

Guided by Voices have dropped the first track off their forthcoming Down by the Racetrack EP. Titled "Copy Zero", the somber acid-washed nap finds Robert Pollard talking about "glossy types and factotums," how "succulence has bled them dry," and god knows what. It's a mess, but in that tragic, hey-that's-really-deep-man sort of way. Stream it below. As previously reported , Down by the Racetrack will be available in 73 and CD formats on January 22nd through the band’s own GBV Inc. imprint. They also have another album on the way, [...]
This is not your ordinary best songs of the year post. First off, we're not dictating the best songs to you as most media sites and blogs do, but rather highlighting the number one songs from each weekly Top 10 Songs playlist in 2012. If you're familiar with IRC's top ten series, you know that [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

"Don't call it a comeback" is usually a phrase uttered self-protectively by musicians who are very much coming back from some degree of obscurity. Dr. Dre wasn't exactly absent during the seven-year stretch between his first and second albums ("California Love," anybody?), but his 1999 sophomore release 2001 is littered with lines like "Ladies pay homage, but haters say Dre fell off/ How, nigga? My last album was The Chronic ." If he ever gets around to releasing Detox , it'll surely be stacked with similar "I never went away" rhetoric (and, undoubtedly, lyrics about headphones.) [...]

" Animal Life " Shearwater Download Shearwater - "You As You Were".mp3 The top 2 songs of the year come from the same artist, a not uncommon feature in the Vague Space end of the year countdowns, and the sounds of the songs were similar -- shimmering pounding beats slowly ebbing and rising to powerful explosions. Now that the holidays are over and people are getting back to their regular routines, we had time to put together the November week-to-week playlists. The December week-to-week top songs will be thin because December is traditionally not a month that there are many new releases. The No. 1 songs for November, in chronological order, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Pulp Hope everyone had a nice holiday. Just popping my head up to clear the decks before taking seasonal cover once again. Because despite very little technically happening over the last few days, a few noteworthy things floated their way up to the top of the internet, not least of which is a new old song from Pulp . Though the safe return to port of the S.S. Coachella last week marked the band's final engagement for the foreseeable future, they don't go back into hiatus without some parting gifts. Passengers on the cruise were [...]
Yep Roc Records will release the new Robyn Hitchcock album, Love From London, on March 5—just after his 60th birthday, which he’ll celebrate with a February 28 retrospective show at the Village Underground in London … The fourth album from the reunited classic Guided By Voices lineup, English Little League, will be out April 30 … [...]

Because Robert Pollard doesn't sleep, eat, or ever step away from a notebook , Guided by Voices now return with their fourth studio album in a little over a year. This one, too, has a cheeky title, English Little League , and hits stores April 30th. No other details just yet, though Under the Radar lists a few song titles, specifically "Xeno Pariah", "With Glass In Foot", and "The Sudden Death of Epstein's Ways". As previously reported , as in yesterday, the band will also release an EP next [...]

With productivity levels that most of us can only envy, Guided By Voices have announced a new EP for early next year. Having released three records in 2012, the legendary Ohio group, led by Robert Pollard, will release the Down by the Racetrack EP in January. Down by the Racetrack will be released come 22 January 2013, available in 7″ and CD formats. It follows on from the band's Let’s Go Eat at the Factory , Class Clown Spots a UFO , and The Bears For [...]

Carlie Armstrong So here's one last housecleaning post before basically winding down for the holidays. Which isn't to say I won't pop back next week, but let's not assume so. Happily, Yo La Tengo have made it easy to wrap things up - whereas most quiet down in December, the trio traditionally have their busiest run of the year thanks to their eight-night run of Hannukah shows at Maxwell's in Hoboken. The combination of a tiny room and ridiculously cool opening acts and special guests have made the events instant sellouts, so those of [...]
2012...what a year of music. We got new releases from favorites such as Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and heard new favorites in Father John Misty, Nude Beach, Tanlines, and more. Last year Earbuddy celebrated one year of existence with the best 50 albums of 2011 . However, we've grown since [...]

Guided By Voices will keep the pedal to the metal as they head into 2013. The garage rock legends have just announced the Down by the Racetrack EP, which follows last year's trio of LPs, Let’s Go Eat at the Factory , Class Clown Spots a UFO , and The Bears For Lunch . Down by the Racetrack will be available in 73 and CD formats on January 22nd through the band's own GBV Inc. imprint. According [...]
#1. Moonface with Siinai - Heartbreaking Bravery Well I figure there isn't much reason to leave anyone in suspense because yet again -- for the 7th straight year -- a Spencer Krug album makes its way to the top of a Vague Space end of the year countdown. In 2007, it was Sunset Rubdown. 2008, Wolf Parade. 2009, Sunset Rubdown again. 2010, Wolf Parade's Expo 86 edged out Arcade Fire and Frog Eyes (and looking back, the album I've listened to most since then among the three is Frog Eyes' [...]
November, as most Novembers, was not as blockbuster for new releases that October and September turned out to be, but there were still plenty of standout songs from largely well-received new albums by a variety of musicians and bands, from bedroom DIY to signed artists. According to IRC listeners, the No. 1 song* of the [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

well, here we are. 2012 almost over, my 7th year of running this joint has passed, and this is what i have come up with. most of this will not be a surprise to anyone who follows this place with any regularity. this year was increasingly hard, i must admit. i think every record in my top ten has the potential of landing that coveted #1 spot cause they're all amazing records in my very very humble opinion, but at the end of the day there can only be one, much like the highlander. my number one record this year [...]

Peter Ellenby When Bob Mould looks back on his 2013, he should be able to reflect on a very busy and productive year. First, he released his memoirs See A Little Light - a very direct and enlightening, if somewhat dryly written, accounting of his professional and personal life over the past half-century, back in June. Shortly thereafter came the release of the complete output of his second most-important power trio in Sugar , which he'd also marked by playing the entirety of the seminal [...]
