1. Foy Vance - Homebird - Foy has one of those syrupy-smooth male alto voices that just irons out all those wrinkles in your brain. I'm not sure how Grey's Anatomy picks songs for the show/soundtrack (I'm betting much of it is labels paying for their artists' inclusion), but this was a wise choice. [from Grey's Anatomy Vol.2 | buy ] 2. Guillemots - Trains to Brazil - Derek at GWFA thought this was the best song of 2006 and I can't [...]
I think it's time the Guillemots stopped touring their wonderful, Mercury-nominated debut album, Through the Windowpane . They must have been touring the same material for over a year now and it's starting to wear on them. It's patently obvious exactly how bored they must be of being on the road, of playing the same songs every night and how much they clearly would rather be working on new songs. Friday night was such astounding evidence of this that it makes me want to petition their record label to give them a holiday and then let them [...]

In the spirit of valentines day, me and Brent decided to put together a couple mixes to serve as a soundtrack to everyone's favorite Hallmark Holiday. Quite simply, my mix is Pro-Love, while Brent's is Anti-Love. Depending on your mood/situation either of these mixes can help make tomorrow a bit easier to digest. Feel free to intermingle the mixes as this is usually how ones life goes anyways: fawning over someone --> giddy with love --> heartbroken --> jealous --> yearning for love again (repeat). You can either download each song individually in MP3 format, or each mix [...]
Derek over at GWFA has his top 50 tracks of 2006 up. His #1 is: Guillemots - Trains To Brazil (mp3)

Yesterday Guillemots released a new version of "Annie, Let's Not Wait" as their newest single. I got my hands on it last week, but didn't give it a listen until just a couple days ago. The new version of Annie, to put it bluntly, kicks the shit out of the album version. They ditch the synth, add in some backing vocals, and the song comes alive. Suddenly it has a soul. Guillemots- Annie, Let's Not Wait (Single Version) The second track on the single is a demo called "Photograph." [...]
Lil Wayne, "Hustler Muzick" - I have a sneaking suspicion that if it weren't for my unabetted attempts at intervention, my friends would all be walking around trying to out-cool each other by talking about that hip new band called The Arcade Fires; for god's sakes, they're looking to me , and I'm only just now waking up to Lil Wayne. For those of you who live your lives completely ensconsed in some dreadful-sounding rap-free Broken Social Scene-dominated bubble looking to put this lapse in judgement in perspective, think of Lil Wayne as the White Stripes circa 2001; [...]
Een nieuwe rubriek hier op mp3blog.punt.nl. In The Soundtrack Of My Lifekomen iedere week vijf nummers langs die ik in een bepaalde week hebgeselecteerd voor The Soundtrack Of My Life. Het principe is als volgt: Op basis van welke nummers ik de afgelopen week heb beluisterd, laat ikeen soundtrack genereren met andere nummers (van andere artiesten) diede smaak van die week het best kunnen weergeve...
We've decided that our first post of 2007 should also be our first ever mp3 post, having been promising to post mp3s for so long but failing to get round to it. So, the following 18 mp3s are all songs that I was obsessed with at some point during 2006. Enjoy. Lambchop - Paperback Bible The opening track on Lambchop's excellent Damaged long player is effectively a list song describing items wanted and offered on an American swap shop style radio show. But a mundane list [...]

you want a piece? I t's so tempting in this dead period between Thanksgiving and mid-January super release days to lament the lack of new music and live shows that I just won't do it. But, damn, I really want to. This is why I hate when my birthday comes (this Friday, 5January, in case you wanna buy any of this ). No one's around and those of us who are left here with our [...]
I'm sorry, but this song makes me happy. I recommend this to anyone who has a heart. And, well, a secret burning passion for Mariah Carey covers. Enjoy. Final Fantasy Fantasy (Mariah Carey Cover)
The Plot by White Rabbits and Listening Man by The Bees and Trains To Brazil by Guillemots

There were a number of albums in 2006 about which expectations were raised by the pre-release of great single or EP tracks only for this MAM to be disillusioned on the release of the actual album. Guillemots a British indie pop band released Through The Windowpane in September. This was a disappointing album following some promising single and EP releases. Too twee and try-hard for my tastes. So much potential might be released if the [...]
When I compiled this top twenty list (for Bruce and Heather’s 12 X 12 post), I did knocked it out in a hurry, at the end of November. If I could go back now, I would make some changes. The Format would crack the top ten. Damien Rice would move up in numbers. Regina would probably come in second. Greg and Amos would switch seats. Brett Dennen would be voted off the island and replaced by Sonya Kitchell. But it is what it is and hindsight is twenty twenty. No matter how [...]

Guillemots - Through The Windowpane [...]
Guillemots - " Trains to Brazil " Here it is, my favorite song of the year. I heard this track way, way back at the beginning of January, when the boys at BadmintonStamps posted it as their Friday Freakout, and now - almost a full year later - there is absolutely no other song I have heard in 2006 that I would rather listen to. It's so completely unlike anything else I've been introduced to this year, and I still think it sounds like movie music - "emotional, engaging, well-suited [...]

Well I thought I wasn't going to be posting any lists this year, but I'm just can't help myself. I'm just going to put the list up at the moment, and then back-fill with tracks over the holiday. These are ranked roughly in order of number of times listened to end to end. Have a very happy holiday, wherever you are. Avalanche [...]

This is a week for reflection about the year almost ended. Thus, my 2006 round-up, mightily constrained by my budget, listening patterns and mood... It'll be a few songs a day, no particular order, other than starting today with music I discovered through other blogs. Thanks for reading, and enjoy... Hello readers. This is Volume Twelve of the celebrated blog radio series. This post is a little different than the other entries I share with you on a daily basis. These songs are ones I am listening to from the depths of my music collection. Some are newer tracks and others are recurrent classics. Completing the Blog Radio posts each week to 10 days has always proven an interesting exercise in both creativity and in connection. I tell you what I am listening to and hopefully that brings us (you and I) just a bit closer. Sometimes the [...]
