How come I never gushed about Guillemots over the last few months? My apologies to the band. Their debut EP released earlier this year was one of the strongest short-players I've heard in quite some time and their first full-length, also released recently, Through The Windowpane , is pure genius. The Mercury Prize nominees had an amazing 2006 (in spite of losing the aforementioned award to Arctic Monkeys). Firstly, they received all sorts of critical buzz, played to their biggest crowds to date and won over hordes [...]
There's this song that Gonzo sings on the first season of The Muppet Show when Gonzo still looked and acted like a dirty crusty outcast weirdo freak. It's a great little ditty about being a dirty crusty outcast weirdo freak...

It's that time of the year - and I'm not talking about Christmas this time around! Music sites and blogs from A to Z are compiling their coveted "Best of 2006" lists for the masses of music lovers to criticize or praise. This year-end delicacy has quickly become a staple for many music sites, including this one, with the subjective lists encompassing an entire year's worth of music. While we're putting the finishing touches on a few more of our lists, one of my favorite musicians crafted a list of his own. A few weeks ago [...]

This is my somewhat inane list of favourite songs from this year. Over half of them have already been posted here, but there might be a few surprises (probably unpleasant for some of you, but hopefully not all of you). The only stipulation I gave myself was to keep it to one song per artist, just for the sake of my sanity and because my list would be pretty boring if I posted half the tracks from my favourite album. God, I hope these are all from 2006. * * * * [...]

And here we are. A little later than I might have liked, but yet another segment of Faronheit's December List-Gasm 2006 is complete. Yes, there were plenty of great albums released this past year, but the same might also be said for EPs. There were a lot of bands releasing them either as their debut material to put some feelers out there and see public response. Other artists just released EPs to experiment with their sound, or even bide some time between full-length albums. Either way, these short collections of songs are the ten best I heard all [...]

Album #18: Through the Windowpane by Guillemots With some absolutely stellar EPs preceding this record, Guillemots had a lot to live up to. And while they didn't quite reach the lofty heights with their debut that I thought they might, they did release a fun, heartfelt record I still find myself taken with. And with 'Trains to Brazil', one of my favourite songs of recent years, the record really couldn't completely fail no matter what they did. I'm very interested to [...]

Just got back from Brickhouse, I really like that place. It is owned by the Red Cloud cigar place which has CAO's. I had some good tea finally, it is a rice green tea, it actually tasted not bad! I really like the picture above. It belongs to the second Thai band that has ever been on BBQCHICKENROBOT. The Band is called "Bear-Garden" but I particularly like what it says at the bottom; "Love is all Around." I think I like it because I hope that it's true . Anyways We got a good mix of 21 songs [...]

It's a neighborly god or the reverse I'm onto–– a proper noun emblazoned across tiles that fast became another proper noun, your name, a kind and wide-eyed monster, marbles slotted in as afterthoughts & your vision. To wit, I drown in Louis Jadot under the pretense you're an inch beyond the green glass. No number of lines does justice to this shambles.

01 - UCLA's Awaken Accapella - "Hide And Seek" (Imogen Heap Cover) . Two days ago, this magically appeared in my inbox courtesy of a friend . I don't have a clue about it except to say that it is amazing and gives me pleasant memories of The OC Season 2. | Website | Purchase | 02 - Brilliant Fanzine - "One In 10,000" . Lame band name, amazing intro. Who starts songs with " And "? Genius. [...]
Hey, you know who hasn't been the subject of a post in about two days? The Long Blondes, "Heaven Help The New Girl" - Jesus God, when do I get to stop? I ran out of ebullient praise for the Long Blondes sometime during the summer and I've had to coast by recycling my old material ever since, but up until now they've just been putting out intermittent singles; now I've got to reconcile either my whole existence with their debut full-length Someone To Drive You Home or the other way [...]

So I'm rushing this one out to go see Alice in Wonderless Land in a few minutes, but not to worry, plenty of wholesome goodness here. I keep hearing about some "Asian shit" from my musically inclined friends. Lullatone , a Japansese duo who play with toys. Yeah, sounds good huh? Same thing I though. See, the music is comprised mostly of those little Playskool keyboards and xylophones - which sounds corny, but I find it to be very soothing, in a kids running around your room kind of way. [...]

I'm excited. I'm often in a state of giddy excitement, but tonight I'm especially excited for two reasons. Here they are: The Guillemots The Guillemots are surprisingly good. Well, they surprised me, anyway. A young lady called Gemma put me on to them a few weeks ago when I asked her for a recommendation, and I've been enjoying their album considerably since. I've not seen a lot of writing in the blogosphere about Guillemots, which surprises me, so here's a couple of their tracks to spread [...]

These guys are really cool. Everyone I ask about them seems to either think that they're totally great or just trying to be Coldplay (so wrong...). Personally, I feel like Guillemots have their own distinct sound and really just need to be given a chance. The great part about them is that the band doesn't just consist of old friends that like to jam, it's made of a multinational group with multinational musical backgrounds. When a classical pianist, a Canadian double-bassist, Scottish drummer and Brazilian guitarist join forces, the product can be, at worst, extremely interesting and at best (in [...]

It'll be given out tonight. Apparently, bookies are pulling for Arctic Monkeys . In fact, word is that if they don't win it would be a MAJOR disappointment. I think there's some stiff competition from Editors and Thom Yorke...also Guillemots. Don't count out the underdog! I guess we'll find out in a few hours... In the meantime: Editors - Munich [...]
