If you missed Part One it's here. This is the second part of bands that I think are well worth your time seeing at The Great Escape 2011, after the last part being non US acts, these are all UK based, Rule Britannia and all that (or am I a bit late for the flag waving now 'The Wedding' is over?!) ... Can we have weather like in the picture please, running between venues in the rain isn't that much fun. In alphabetical order: Alpines [...]
Often when a lead singer leaves the band to pursue a solo career, that can spell the end.
The emergence of Guillemots around 2006 was, for me at least, a genuine breath of fresh air. At a time when the horrors of landfill indie were just starting to infiltrate pop music like the gradual and horrible dawning realisation of a particularly rotten fart, their blend of the expansive and the offbeat were a glorious escape, doubly so in the live arena. Appropriately, their debut album Through the Windowpane , though flawed, seems to have been remembered fondly for its ambitiously panoramic shots of idealism. Follow-up, Red , however, struggled to garner the same acclaim, [...]
Words: Saam Das Day 2 of my 2011 Gaymers Camden Crawl experience. Day 1 went pretty well and I managed to catch eight or so bands that I'd never seen before in amongst some minor japery. I was determined on Day 2 to go one step further and check out even more new bands. I'm pleased to report that I managed that feat. First up [...]
You may be familiar with Shazam as the ace music recognition phone app and more importantly instant settler of pub arguments. What you may not know is that they've been hosting a series of stripped down performances by some great artists on their YouTube channel. 'Shazam Sessions' has featured the likes of Glasvegas, Trophy Wife [...]
Dancing In The Devil's Shoes - Guillemots long way down.
When listening to lots of music, sometimes I get stuck for words. Trying the find the right descriptive words is not always that easy for me. I can find the right words to use for describing this profound, earnest and affectionate album by the Guillemots. They are the only words I need to use are [...] Continue..
Explosions in the sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care Quatro anos se passaram desde o belissímo All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone , e a ansiedade era grande para se ouvir o novo disco do Explosions in the Sky .
Guillemots - After his well-received (and relatively mainstream) 2010 solo album Fly Yellow Moon , eclectic Brit art/popper Fyfe Dangerfield reunites his merry band of players for their third album...follow-up to 2008's Top 10 U.K. charter Red // Release : Walk the River (April 19 - U.K.) // Quote : 'We deliberately wanted to take longer writing it, not recording it. In fact, we had about a year just writing together, and having enough [...]
For their third full record, Guillemots took some time out. Fyfe Dangerfield went and recorded a solo album, and the band as a whole had time to grow musically. It’s not been a long break for music for any of them, but their loyal fan base missed them. Two secret shows in London sold out in minutes as lovers of their first two albums flocked back to see where the band’s musical intentions now lay. In short, they’ve matured as lead single 'The Basket' will have let everyone know. Its soaring lines [...]
elbow.co.uk The overarching storyline to Elbow's career can generally be summed up as, "slow and steady wins the race", with the race in question perhaps referring to the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, which they were nominated for in 2001 for their debut Asleep in The Back and finally won in 2008 for album number four, The Seldom Seen Kid . The adage could also apply to my own relationship with the band, which started with indifference to Asleep , complete ignorance to 20032s [...]

"Spaceman 13 by Jeremy Geddes So I was robbed yesterday morning while still in bed asleep (Happy April Fool's to me!). They bashed the deadlocked door in and stole my awesome man bag. The kind that this random junkie would never appreciate or find someone who could appreciate it to sell it to but which I loved. My wallet, phone, all the really important stuff were elsewhere thankfully. I haven't been put out too much... Except that my ipod was in there. My ipod from 2008 with two dead computers' worth of [...]
