A couple of weeks ago we featured Guilty Ghosts self-titled LP from 2010. In that feature, we also posted tracks from Guilty Ghosts ' upcoming release, Veils . Well, it's out now and better than anticipated. Marked by vast sonic soundscapes, it is a step above Tristan O'Donnell's past work. Tracks by See Oleena and Guerre stand out, but the variety of material is a strength of this release. The People You Love and The End Of Akira recall the guitar work of late 802s [...]
Guilty Ghosts feat.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I learned about Guilty Ghosts through a tweet about a new release, Everlasting Evening . Guilty Ghosts is the pseudonym for Brooklyn-based artist, Tristan O'Donnell. I did some background work and found that he released a self-titled long player last year; it is a post rock, instrumental album. The 2010 release features meditative pieces full of ambient soundscapes and drone. Everlasting Evening is more of the same, but polished and there's a bit toward the middle where Sea Oleena contributes vocals. It's [...]

Tristan of Guilty Ghosts sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of the q and also a series. q: What is the last song you (really) heard? a: Last Night at the Jetty by Panda Bear . It's amazing to me that an artist can be equal parts experimental and joyful in the same breath. The whole album reveals just as much excitement as this song does. Downloadable: Last Night at the Jetty (mp3) by Panda Bear [...]

Guilty Ghosts // "Tinted Windows" (feat. Guerre) I saw this track posted on Boy Attractions (one of my favorite blogs) yesterday but I didn't get a chance to listen to it. Then today I was reminded of it when Guilty Ghosts (Tristan O'Donnell) actually sent it to me. There was no excuse to pass over it a second time, so I listened to it and was really kinda blown away. I had heard Guilty Ghosts in the past, so I was familiar with Tristan's music. It always seemed to float [...]

Guilty Ghosts — Tinted Windows (Featuring Guerre) We featured Tristan O'Donnell's Guilty Ghosts project back in August, when he had just sent his killer Enigma Variations tape rippling through the stratosphere. Well now he's back with "Tinted Windows", an outstanding new single from his Veils full-length (out this summer). While his previous two releases were strictly instrumental, melding beat-driven ambience with Mogwai-style guitar builds, "Tinted Windows" [...]

Bandcamp , Mediafire , and sometimes a little good old fashioned web hosting have made it easier than ever for bands to make the decision to share their music with new audiences around the world without charging for it. That said, it is important to support the artists who are giving away their music. Do they tour? Go see them perform live. Do they have merch for sale? Buy something. Do they have a paypal link on their website? Throw some $$ their way. Check out the samples below and then make with the downloading. These are the free [...]

It's time to listen to the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. Downloadables: Form (mp3) by Hooray For Earth ( source ) Van Tan (mp3) by DD/MM/YYYY [...]

Guilty Ghosts From: Brooklyn, United States Guilty Ghosts is the pseudonym of lo-fi drone rocker Tristan O'Donnell. Most of his tracks follow a very similar pattern. Layers of droning guitar, mechanical drum machine and the occasional stab of found sound. It's melancholic music for darkened rooms. It's come down music for the early hours; music to ease the tripping mind. But there's a twist. Tracks like the ominous, foreboding Prelude/Postlude [...]

Guilty Ghosts: Top Prize Fighter Creating a moving piece of music is hard enough to begin with. Creating a moving piece of music without words is a different beast entirely. Continuing in the tradition of Max Richter, Mogwai, Emeralds, Mark McGuire and GY!BE, Brooklyn's Guilty Ghosts (Tristan O'Donnell) will tug at your heartstrings without uttering a single syllable. You could pigeonhole this guy as ambient/drone, but his stuff's not that simple; leaving no sub-genre unturned, he does everything from downtempo [...]

Guilty Ghosts, "Everyone Around Me"

Guilty Ghosts is the musical alter-ego of one Tristan O'Donnell. We really dig the droney postrock vibe of his abstract bedroom proj. This here is his latest single. Please note, that while it takes a while for the drum programming to kick in (1:35 minutes!), it's totally worth the wait. Listen. Downloadable: The Everlasting Evening (mp3) Also make sure you check out his self-titled EP over @ his Bandcamp . Dakota Forever by Guilty Ghosts If you like, [...]

In his original email to The Decibel Tolls, Brooklyn's Guilty Ghosts (a.k.a. Tristan O'Donnell) described his music as a "cross between Mogwai and Three Six Mafia," a combination that seems absurd at first, but actually makes sense once you realize the similarities between the two groups. Both make music that's equal parts eerie, melodramatic, and melancholy (yes, I just called Three Six Mafia melancholy; listen to the beat to "Bin Laden Weed" and then talk to me). Admittedly, O'Donnell's sound is far closer to Mogwai's, but once you hear his record I think you'll understand his [...]
