Sydney's Guineafowl are fast becoming an Indie Shuffle favorite. Fresh from a jam-packed tour of the U.S. – which included a performance at the CMJ Festival – the five-piece have been touring their new single, "The Lie Is," around Australia. After releasing their debut EP, [...]
Today just couldn't shake off the damp of last night's rain, and it's cloudy and dismal. The birds aren't even here to distract me as the feeders are all empty. Only a snoring Gracie is giving the day any life. I have chosen today as a not to get dressed day. I'm going to fill the feeders, make my shopping list for Thursday's desserts, go on-line and order some Christmas presents and then organize some photos on my Mac, the original ones from my Peace Corps days. On Saturday I hauled into the house 30 pounds of dog [...]

Guineafowl, a five-member Australian pop rock outfit, were as polished and sleek as the shiny, white Red Bull Space where they performed Tuesday night. New track from Sydney gents Guineafowl. The Lie Is is a killer of a track - that 12 bar chorus phrase they got going gets me, and yeah, it's a bit rockier than their earlier work. This is the first cut taken from the guys new album which is due for release early next year. [...]
A warm welcome to America for Australia's Guineafowl and their summery indie pop.
Although there are many musicians who think their bedroom is as good as a studio these days, music that is initially arranged on a personal computer doesn't necessarily lack depth. Australia's Guineafowl has set out to destroy this common assumption of laptop shallowness through his band's debut EP "Hello Anxiety" out now on Dangerbird Records. There may be some electronic components in songs such as "Little Fingers," but guitars and drums hold as much ground, making these Aussies impossible to associate with the lo-fi genre. Although it only took five days to record and mix the EP, the [...]

If you haven't heard of Guineafowl until now, we'll forgive you, as we're just catching onto the band ourselves. The Australian group is coming to the States to support the release of their Guineafowl EP. The feel of their first US single totally epitomizes my need for high-fueled energy on Wednesday; it's got bits of stomping, yet I can sort of hear that blissful swoon of the Dears hiding beneath their guitar work lines. Just sort of imagine blending pieces of eclectic elements with bits of [...]

Building on my earlier post about the top ten international bands to check out at the upcoming Splendour in the Grass Festival (July 29-31), I now bring you the best of this year's homegrown contingent. Here are the top ten Australian acts that we're excited to see at the festival. Of course, Splendour in the Grass is held in Australia (and I'm a native Australian as well), so I'm kind of biased. But I hope this brings your attention to some of the great acts coming out of this country. [...]
Independent folk and Americana spirited journeying outfit, Guineafowl originally started out as a one person outfit and has grown in sound and range, adding five more members in the process. Opener 'In Our Circles', represents the growth of the outfit that started out in an attic near Bondi Beach. The number opens out from a soulful/gospel folk vocal lifted intro', building into an ambient percussion and rising electro slanted tune. It mingles in influences as broad as Adem, Aphex Twin, The Finn Brothers and Guilemots, to name but a few. A spindling, summery guitar outro' adds to the range on [...]
