Happy May Day! Hopefully, I will find myself fully recovered from WHEN ALLERGIES ATTACK 2009 and will be able to fully enjoy these fellas (for like the 30th time) on Saturday. Have a great weekend, y'all.

Via my Twitter, I became aware that Guster was playing an unannounced show on the SMU Campus, so after getting confirmation of the show from none other than Guster themselves, BVaz and I went down to check it out. Guster always puts on great shows (at least the four? times that I have seen them), and this one was no exception. Guster's musicianship, harmonies and presence have gotten so easy for them throughout their seemingly nonstop touring that the performance seems utterly effortless and is really impressive. Find my iPhone photos of Wild Sweet Orange and [...]

I know I touched on this already but thought it would be worth making its own post about in case some late afternoon straggler hops onto our site or sees the auto-tweet later on. Guster is playing an unannounced show tonight on the SMU campus in Dallas on the Clements Lawn. Wild Sweet Orange takes the stage at 8; Guster is on at 9:15. See you there, peeps! ( Map of Campus )

So three of us had the privilege of attending a free Guster performance at the University of Arkansas last night, and I'm sure that the other guys won't mind me speaking for them when I say that we thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was my fifth time to see them, so most of it I had seen before, but even so, it made for a really fun evening. If you haven't seen Guster live, you must put it on your to-do list. They are easily one of the best performing bands around. A big part of that is due to [...]

Welcome back, readers! Sometimes all it takes is a random browse of your mp3 collection to find that awesome long-lost song to write about. Today I feature "Gone Daddy Gone" by The Violent Femmes from their eponymous 1982 debut album. The most recognizable single from this album is probably "Blister In The Sun" but I've always preferred "Gone Daddy Gone", "Add It Up" and "Kiss Off" to that crowd pleaser. If you're into folk punk and are interested in hearing an album that helped create the genre, I urge you [...]

It's Easter and I feel like my basket is full of all the things that matter most to me, the fullest it's been in a long time. I hope yours is, too. I also wish you a happy day if it's a holiday you celebrate. Well, I wish you a happy day regardless, but you know what I mean. Today the thing that means the most to me is being with my family. Just my little nuclear family. We always used to go to church on Easter morning and it was a [...]

"Look at the way we gotta hide what were doin' / Cause what would they say if they ever knew, and..." Hey readers, in keeping up with the theme of last week's post (see: Part I ) I'm continuing my love for Tommy James & The Shondells and classic songs that stand the test of time. Plus, you know you're dealing with a classic song when The Chipettes put out a rendition , a pre- Black Eyed Peas ' Fergie does it , and it's spoofed by "Weird Al" Yankovic [...]
Guster has been well known for its live performances and loyal fan following, even before the numerous soundtrack appearances (see: Life As A House and Garden State ; we will play "6 Degrees of Hayden Christensen" later). With their initially underground status, the Bostonians built a foundation that continues to influence other avenues of indie rock, one of them being guitarist Adam Gardner's foray into environmental awareness called Reverb which initiated the Campus Consciousness tour . The tour which started in 2006 has, according to the most recent press release: [...]

Reverb , a non-profit environmental organization founded by Guster's guitarist/vocalist Adam Gardner and his environmentalist wife Lauren Sullivan , educates and engages musicians and their fans to promote environmental sustainability. "After the incredible student response to the 1st Campus Consciousness Tour in [...]

4. Fun Fun is the new brainchild of Nate Ruess (The Format) and Andrew Dost (Anathallo). News of this project has helped keep me from spiraling down into a deep dark depression over the loss of one of the greatest pop bands of all time. While I love the name, I am slightly annoyed that yet again I will have a hard time finding anything on them with just a google search. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to hear this album. Nate [...]

Looking back at last week, we were flooded with votes pouring in from The Midwest for both 30db (Brendan Bayliss & Jeff Austin) and Van Ghost. These two bands were fighting it out for a while, but the energetic supporters of Van Ghost ultimately left 30db in the dust when we looked at a number of great covers of Don't Let Me Down . Congrats to Michael Berg, Jennifer Hartswick and the whole Van Ghost team on their first Cover Wars win. Cover Wars has focused on a number [...]
