Yesterday we woke up to the heartbreaking news that PIAS’ London warehouse had been completely burnt down in a wave of wanton, vitriolic rioting that was completely lacking any legitimate political motive. Whilst the wider implications of this thoughtless and respectless behaviour is a problem probably best left to our inept politicians, it has become clear that many of the independent labels that we love are now under severe financial pressure, having had some or all of their physical stock destroyed. Unfortunately for these companies, being insured is not enough. First of all, insurance companies are bastards. That [...]

Some band or artist, somewhere, is going to have to do something very special this year to better ‘Lost On The King’s Road’, the first track on Gyratory System’s second album New Harmony - it’s a brooding swarm of tune with a menacing serpentine coil perfectly befitting the band’s name and presents the most snakiest of melodies that you hope will crawl into the engines of Chelsea tractors and immobilise Sloanes from ranging (if such a breed still exist). With a mix of synths and brass/woodwind instruments given a range of sound treatments, New Harmony [...]

"Psychic Mews is the sound of a miniature supranational marching band making their way through a market in Queensway, London W2. They are all hoping to have their palms read. Like all Gyratory System music it was created using The Process. You can hear more of it on the album The Sound-Board Breathes; and the forthcoming download single, Pamplona, both on Angular."Gyratory System - Psychic Mews (
Let’s not beat around the bush. I love this record. Not because it’s going to change my life or make me cry or soundtrack a romantic encounter or anything like that. I love this record because it is absurd and ridiculous. Just the fact that it’s an electronic album made by a trumpeter with his seventy-something year old fellow-trumpeting Dad is instantly endearing. It’s no surprise then that The Sound-Board Breathes doesn’t make sense. The album is chock-a-block with headache-inducing free-jazz discordance which somehow, like on opening track ‘Barons Court Turret’, works as euphoric insanity. Often [...]

I went round a Gyratory System in Catford once. It was shit, unlike this album which was brilliantly described by NME as being "like a score written by Kraftwerk for Looney Tunes". I'm not a plagiariser (honest) but I do however agree with this incredibly apt description. On a personal note I’d like to add it actually sounds like the soundtrack to Looney Tunes’ ( what was that about plagiarism? - Ed) late night acid trips a scary thought yet something that sounds as though you’d like to be part of it, thought you saw a [...]
A further batch of upcoming London live dates worth investigating, in date order with the soonest first: Treetop Flyers A West London folk act who sound like Mumford & Sons only with less clamour and chaos, this fivepiece can be relied on for gentle guitar strums, softly-howling vocals thick as woodsmoke and lyrics about roses, trees, dogs and other such honest [...]

The kaleidoscopic video works quite well against the strange instrumental tune. It's called 'Cargo Cult' by a band called Gyratory System and supposedly sounds like "a distorted marching band stopping off to pick up a rhythm section at Lagos en route to a rave in Dusseldorf." Yeh..... It's certainly a bit menacing... MP3: Cargo Cult - Gyratory System Gyratory System is actually a name for a roundabout. They release their debut album The Sound-Board Breathes in October via the Angular Recording Corporation with an EP [...]
So you're trapped inside this maze of mirrors . Everywhere you look you see your own face, and everywhere you turn there's the sound of horns. Which is the real face? Which is the real horn? Gyratory System would like your answers. Listen to their 2009 single, Yowser Yowser Yowser . Gyratory System - Yowser Yowser Yowser (alternate download)

We were sad when One More Grain parted ways last year, but sometimes break-ups can be positive. Like when Kelly and Dylan split and she had to deal with a drug-addicted mother, got hooked on weight-loss pills, got caught in a fire which left her partially burned, joined a cult after being brainwashed by one of her professors, got addicted to cocaine, got pregnant with Brandon's baby and had a miscarriage, got shot at at the airport, then got raped before killing her attacker. Kelly eventually became a guidance counsellor. Things also worked out alright for Gyratory System who rose [...]

I was in the office on Wednesday and people were smiling more than usual. Many were paying an American girl who works there a visit, to congratulate her, and also to say thanks What happened in the US Presidential elections wasn't just the end of what will be probably remembered as ...
It's not that often that I come across a band that I am at a loss to describe in terms of honourable influences, or scenes of a film, snippets of a conversation overheard in a club or a fragment of a book. Gyratory Systems are one such band. Their music ...
