I found this video very interesting.... and props to whoever took the time to put this together. I mentioned last week that lately I've been on a bit of an electro hiatus, and have been going back to my old hip-hop favorites, so it seems appropriate that I would finally do another installment of Hip Hop Hits . I have a ton of respect for pretty much all of the work the members of the Wu-Tang Clan have done. Even Method Man and Redman, who I consider to be pretty commercialized, I find pretty enjoyable. Pop Shots is the only real rarity out of the bunch - it's off of a mixtape called Osirus, [...]

This list is dedicated to Sam. Hopefully he'll read it someday soon, because it is right up his alley. I don't think this list needs much of an introduction. You've read the title of the blog entry, you either recoiled in horror or you started laughing. Either way, the end result is going to be the same. Yes, I'm about to share with you a list of men who I think she have taken the opportunity to have sex with their own daughters. I heard about this Mackenzie Philips/John Philips thing on the Internet the other day. Then [...]

à Charlotte GZA - B.I.B.L.E (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)

Magnify the glass, three-sixty-five have passed As earth's revolution sparks rap evolution We look back on the game with our hip hop optics Seen crops of block kids makin rap robotics Where the flyest of the flows were branded ice cold And the sounds of chart toppers chiseled from the same mold We pile it all together, summation of rap nation Too poetically potent, causes light headed sensations So I guess I'm floating, with the cream of the crop Burn your paper trail cuz this list's about to drop- - by Louie Michaud. Check out Farma G's latest blog over at the Music From The Corner blogspot . He's put together a few tracks that he was feeling in the year just passed: 'Lions In The Forrest' ft. Joell Ortiz, Termanology - DJ Revolution 'Get Yo' Hustle On' - Uncle Murda 'Hollywood' - CNN 'Talking In My Sleep' - Elzhi 'Robbery' - Guilty Simpson [...]
Most likely you already you already have plans for this night of all nights, but just in case....here's a small list of parties going on at the area's clubs. Here in Baltimore the big ticket is Wu-Years Eve at Sonar featuring Method Man, Rza, Gza, Ghostface, Raekwon, Masta Killa, U-God, Cappadonna and Inspecta Deck. If you don't like that sound just wall two steps over to Sonar 's club stage to check the Taxlo Dance Party with Sri Aurobindo, Simon Phoenix, Cullen Stalin, Chris O, and Emily Rabbit. If that doesn't float your boat then travel over [...]
Congruent with all others these past few days, I find myself stuck in an airport - in a fury of sleet and freezing rain in one of the most beautiful locales of our country - Newark, NJ. The travel syndrome has already set into my body, as the over consumption of wine from last night has now been pumped thru my system and replaced with copious amounts of Dunkin' Donuts coffee.... And, in case you've never visited this oil refinery lined paved mecca of the "garden state", it is filled with leather jackets, K-Swisses, and little dogs in [...]
Let us start with the weaknesses of the new GZA album Pro Tools, the title of which implies that GZA doesn't need Pro Tools to compose his songs. Well, maybe he should have thought about stopping at the Apple store to pick up a copy because the beats throughout this album are weak and difficult to remember. There is nothing here that will capture and demand your presence on the dance floor, but

In a manner fitting for his rhyme style, the Genius has steadily and stealthily crafted one of the best discographies in hip-hop history. Despite this, the guy's rarely mentioned in greatest rapper arguments and granted, while he's probably a bit too dry to inhabit that rarefied air, he's certainly not far off. Pro Tools is the GZA's fifth album in the 13 years since he released his debut Liquid Swords, declared the 12th best album ever by blog group think. Accordingly, anything post- Liquid has been met with the Illmatic curse, in that [...]
'Sup, soul babies? Apologies for leaving so much time on your hands to contemplate why I'm such an insufferably lazy bastard. No worries, though...as soon as the temperature drops below 60 degrees, my ass will be staying indoors a lot more often and we can fall in love all over again. Word. I'm almost finished with a lengthy post that will drag you snitches back to school for a dose of higher learning, and there's a phenomenal guest mix comin' up from one of my long-term affiliates as well. Until then---easy does it, children. Do it [...]
DOWNLOAD GZA - Alphabets (MP3) GZA drops the first single off of Pro-Tools (Aug 19th/Babygrand) and it's dope 'Amplified Sample' style. Remember where you heard this.
Some bittersweet news in the festival circuit today. Method Man is not longer playing Forecastle this year (boo), but his spot will be filled by co-headliners GZA and Del tha Funky Homosapien (yay!). MP3: GZA - Duel of the Iron Mic I'm sort of torn. I was really, really looking forward to Meth, but GZA and [...]

As the week goes on, the shows keep getting better and better. If you're in Philly you might have a tough decision on what show to attend. It will probably come down to what mood you're in. If you missed Wu-Tang in Baltimore last night, you can check them out tonight at the Trocadero . Or if you fancy indie pop rock, there's the dynamite line-up of New Motels, Long Walk Home, The Bye Byes, and Swivel Chairs at the Khyber . Or perhaps you crave the alt-blues-folk-rock genre. In that case [...]

The Passion of the Weiss and Straight Bangin' have called for bloggers to compile lists of their 25 favorite hip-hop albums and there's been a nice response so far. The lists that are submitted will be integrated using a simple weighted scoring system to create a kind of overall internet-consensus master list. It's a fun project and a nice, challenging exercise... particularly for someone who hasn't really compiled a list before (like me). I definitely enjoy reading them, but I've always felt that lists can be a bit arbitrary (especially those as openly subjective as "25 favorites"). [...]
So let's talk Smokin' Aces , can we? Comes out friday, so this is info you might actually be able to use. Let's see, as far as setups go, this one doesn't exactly shatter the mold: cops need high profile snitch for case, mob puts price on snitch's head, wacky hitmen converge on said snitch, hilarity and mayhem ensues. The ensemble cast includes Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Alicia Keys, Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman, Common, and the so-hot-right-now Jeremy Piven. Read on for the trailer. The flick seems decent enough, though rotten tomatoes gave [...]
