H-Burns is French. H-Burns is Renaud Brustlein and friends. H-Burns has webpages that Google translates for me and that end up with funny little bits and pieces of English. H-Burns is about the best thing I've listened to in the last calendar year. Way back in November, "Horses With No Medals" was posted by Largehearted Boy (nice one!), and that song has occupied a little space in my head for a long time since. It's a beautiful little piece of work, the kind of combination of lyrics and music that makes me want to learn [...]

I had planned to post a huge survey of new and upcoming tribute albums from the folkworld here in this space today, but after a week of bedside Zen , Sunday's late-night sociopolitical rant , and a full-bore reentry into teaching and town business meetings, exhaustion seems to have caught up with me. I'll be working on that tribute post throughout the week, and hope to have it up on Sunday at the latest. But in the interest of deadlines, and because the ol' brain is really not up to much [...]

(weework) website Over the last few years, we've talked nonstop about the great releases coming out on ( weework ). After covering artists like The Burning Hell , Great Lake Swimmers , Two Minute Miracles , The FemBots , The UnSettlers , The United Steel Workers of Montreal and Don Brownrigg , you might assume we've covered all of the acts you need to know in the (weework) family. In all honesty, I did, and that's why I waited so long to review this terrific collection of songs. [...]

QBiM is happy to be joining in on the celebrations. Thanks to the fine folks at (weewerk), we have three prize packs consisting of a copy of the compilation CD, (weewerk) is 6! , and Tony Dekker of Great Lake Swimmers' soundtrack EP to the documentary Song [...]

Let's pursue our little tour on the French music scene. More and more artists are leaving the French language adopting English in their songwriting process and I can't blame it - what's about a french version of this blog ? For Renaud Brustlein also known as H-Burns, the language matter doesn't even arise... As soon as you'll hear the first notes of his second album - How strange it is to be anything at All - you can't almost imagine dealing with a French artist ; sure if accent can betray, his musical roots are far [...]
