Every week we will be featuring The Sweet Five! What's The Sweet Five you may ask? Well I'll drop you five sweet songs that you should listen to once a week, that will help you get over your mid-week slump and set sail towards the ever-nearing weekend! Ready? Okay! The Lumineers - Dead Sea I have my girlfriend to thank who heard this one while at work. This is a Indie-Folk track with plenty of soul. Despite the deep undertones, this song [...]

Murder by Death has one of the more unique sounds I've heard in a while. I had a chance to catch their show at Triple Rock Social Club a couple months back and I was thoroughly impressed. I initially went to see Ha Ha Tonka but stuck around to see MBD headline the night. The electric cello they throw into the conversation really appealed to my musical pallet. They recently released a new album, Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon, and about half the songs on the album really stuck out to me as well put [...]
Sigur Rós plays on Wednesday at Paramount As we recover from a beautiful (and hot!) weekend in Seattle, we have a whole crop of new and amazing shows to share with you this week. We start off slowly with some great small club shows at the Tractor with Phosphorescent and Mimicking Birds, and at the Sunset with Southeast Engine and Danielle Henry . Tuesday night, we recommend a great show at Neptune Theatre with Sharon Van Etten, Tennis, and Lemolo . [...]

I've got a super busy August planned that includes a trip far, far away from Denver and concerts so my list isn't terribly long this month, but the picks I have are good ones. I'm looking forward to each of them very much. August 9th / Hi-Dive / Denver The Mynabirds [ tickets ] I was introduced to The Mynabirds through Laura Burhenn touring with Bright Eyes last year. She's a fantastic performer and caught my eye (or [...]

Nobody wants to act like they care too much. Honey my heart is a heavy one I need to rest a spell, for you it was I fell Nobody wants to act like they care too much I’m gonna hide it well Turns out, a 60 song mixtape is the most genuine expression of feeling I could ever give. I could not put it into my own words - the talking, the hope I'm not used to and frequently avoid because hope begets more hope and too much hope [...]
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Ha Ha Tonka Video: "Lonely Fortunes" Highlight: "We've wanted to shoot a video in our namesake Ha Ha Tonka State Park for a while now," mandolinist Brett Anderson tells Spinner. "It was our director Brook Linder's idea to shoot the video with super 8mm film. The shots, colors and everything that he captured turned out really great. We are super happy with the way it turned out." [...]

If you're looking for something to do tonight, there's no better choice than heading to the Middle East for what has to be one of the strongest bills of the year so far. Langhorne Slim, Ha Ha Tonka and local favorites Kingsley Flood are going to bring a heavy dose of gritty, sweaty Americana to Central Square and I suggest you be there. The Way We Move - Langhorne Slim Usual Suspects - Ha Ha Tonka [...]

Whew. I'm a little late getting this one up. The past 3 days have been a whirlwind of beer, vodka, whiskey, rock shows and front porch laughs but now it's back to the real world... Anyhow, last week's show featured Von from Americana Rock Mix pulling a cohost stint. It's been a while since we had Von in studio so it was a whole lot of fun. He pulled a lot of the music for the show and much of it, I'd never even heard before. I bookended the show with a Beastie Boys [...]

The Ozark Mountains, and all its rivers and streams, are beyond the ideal setting for music played in real time. In real life. 10 miles from me one way there is a quaint little smattering of primitive cabins on the river. 10 miles the other way is the old, restored mill, with its own little happy gathering of dwellings. It would seem to me that land such as this would breed such beautiful music but in terms of those making it around here, there are no terms. It's not happening. The only strumming of a guitar the trees [...]
