04.26: Vox and the Hound + Gold and the Rush + The Jonesbirds + Sports & Leisure - The Hookah 04.27: Givers + Habitat - One Eyed Jacks It's practically a no-brainer that on a week which neatly serves as a backdrop to the first three days of Jazz Fest, that the New Orleans late night music calendar will be bursting at the seems with dynamically talented musicians of every genre vying for the attention of those festivalgoers with the gumption to take the [...]

03.22: Fort Wilson Riot + Pals + Glish - Circle Bar 03.23: Habitat + Donovan Wolfington - Ampersand Even the most avid New Orleans area concert-goer could be excused if he or she has never stepped foot inside Ampersand, the former Whitney Bank turned plush downtown discotheque. Sure, we've all heard of the place - home to the infamous Electronic Takeover pool parties, NeonGlow raves and many an all-night rager featuring the likes of Diplo or Paul Oakenfold reveling in the unbridled enthusiasm of this city's young beatnuts [...]

Just as the NFL Draft, with all the pomp and circumstance that surround it, is considered by some to be America's fourth major professional sport, the first few months of every year find the coming Festival Season's numerous events unveiled in quick succession, a noteworthy and exciting music-centric stretch in its own right. Rumors abound, travel plans are made, and sometimes vitriolic meditations on the Current And Future State Of Music™ are hard to avoid. But sardined among reliably controversial announcements from Hangout Music Festival , Jazz Fest, Sasquatch, Bonnaroo and Coachella is the one press release that is [...]
02.09: Sphynx + Noir Fonce + Rhodes - Siberia 02.10: Yob + Thou - The Big Top Anyone who has been to even a handful of underground or DIY concerts in New Orleans over the last couple of years is probably at least casually aware of the astounding creative talent that continues to bubble under its surface while going anomalously unrecognized by much of the outside world. For most, that "Us Against Them" narrative is and always has been this city's defining characteristic. But within a steadily rising [...]
A good bit of natural uncertainty seems to surround new local trio Habitat, who for a time only played intermittently between each member's full-time band schedule and who have yet to formally record even one original song for public consumption. Through most interpretations, the band is nothing more than a side project: guitarist Andrew Landry and drummer Evan Cvitanovich, better known as noise punk duo High In One Eye, have noticeably been lending their talents as near-bit players in acts like Glish and the now-defunct Country Club. However, with Country Club's recent break-up freeing up the creative juices of singer [...]

Imagine Ian Curtis singing 'Near Wild Heaven' by R.E.M. That's pretty cool, right? 'Werefolf' is one of two stadium sized and uplifting yet dark country pop songs, downloadable from Daddy Lion's debut EP 'Habitat' released later this year. It has the wide open ethereal space of the early nineties but with modern production and some [...]
09.22: Vapo-Rats + The Riffs + The Unnaturals - 12 Bar 09.23: Big History + King Rey + Baby Bee - Eiffel Society When local rock band King Rey took the stage at One Eyed Jacks to close out last year's New Orleans Indie Rock Festival, they were sandwiched on the bill between Big History and Empress Hotel - acts that were, for all intents and purposes, much more sought-after in the New Orleans indie rock world. But as King Rey's surprisingly [...]
Habitat just releases a welcome video to coincide with the article that I posted the other day. Let the shredding begin.

Growing up I always saw Brian skating around Miami, killin it at the old Control Skatepark and doin' damage in the streets. He has had a pretty positive skate career over the past few years but it always seemed like he never got love from the right companies. Now that he is on Habitat it seems like everything fits and he has found a home. Congrats Brian!! Here is his interview that appears on the Habitat site.

anita perkins Download Habitat "No More Humanity" Habitat's most recent album is a derailed ghost train. It is a deformed Eno stripped to just a beat-box. It's predominantly dark, moaning with echoes; the vocals are a grotesque dissonant timbre. "Put Your Baby on the Train" is Evol -like paranoia. I think of Dali's Car or Swans, but Rich Eckersley and Kelly O'Hare, the duo who perform as Habitat, are in their own category. I enjoyed the bizarre lyrics and obscure hints [...]
