Righty-ho, readers of Toad, here's your chance to get stuck in and tell me what a clueless phillistine I am even more vociferously than you normally do in the comments section. For the end of the year I will be making a few lists of my own: a Top Twenty list of albums, and a Festive Fifty of individual songs. However, it would be nice to have reader lists as well, so I reckon everyone should email a list of the following: 1. Top ten albums, 2. Top ten songs, 3. Top five [...]

I heard Hafdis Huld for the first time on Aurgasm quite some time ago, which means it's high time that I wrote about her on here. She's Icelandic, which made me assume that her music would at least be inside the realm of "weird," and indeed, it is. It's not as odd as Bjork, though, which is to say that I actually derive enjoyment from Hafdis Huld's music. She has a very calming voice which suits her slow songs well. It is the charm she displays on songs like Ice Cream Is Nice that [...]

"I want him to want her and stop wanting me. They could be lovers and just let me be. Ice cream is nice, monsters are not." Hafdis Huld ~ Ice Cream Is Nice from Dirty Paper Cup by Hafdis Huld complete lyrics here Thanks for reading my blog! xoxo, asley

icelandic pop-folk // electro pop The charming debut of former Gus Gus singer, Icelandic-born Hafdis Huld, is a fun jaunt of quirky contemporary pop. Her girly voice crosses between the eccentricity of Cerys Matthews and fragility of Emiliana Torrini ; her songwiting's sweet but with macabre twists; and her arrangements never bore. Hafdis' electronic noise, instrumentation of keyboards, xylophone, and especially the surprising country sound of banjo, amount to some bizarrely catchy musical romps. Delicious wit and great seriousness. Hafdis Huld - Diamonds [...]

Hafdis Huld is from I celand, and she's former singer of the band GusGus (which i know nothing about) . What I know is that her music slips around somwhere between soft folk pop and (a little bit of) delicate electronica. Hafdis seems to be popular in Iceland and I think she deserves some of our attention too. This song is my favorite so far. Of course a plus for the cute girls in the video. It's hard to hang out with Tomoko... [...]
