On Thursday, I made the claim that Nina Simone, despite her unwavering brilliance, would not be a wise choice for Hot Tub Rock Show time machine shows. Nina Simone? You're gonna take a chance on one of her notorious flipouts? And then I run across this live version of Hall & Oates' "Rich Girl." Which destroys the version from Baltimore in every way. Yum yum yum. Crow sandwich. So delicious. Thanks for bringing it back to Philly , Nina. [...]

Today we got perennial mom car favorite (or at least my mom anyways), I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) by yacht rock hall of famers Hall & Oates . Jesus those guys killed it during their late 70s / early 80s heyday, and that's in spite of Oates' mustache becoming painfully more and more passé every year. I'm gonna lead with my pick of the litter, a funky, fun little indie/electronic number from Buffetlibre's The Paper Scissors and also riding that same wavelength are [...]

In the midst of working the major music festival circuit this summer, I got a chance to sit down with Dave 1 and P-Thugg of Chromeo on Sunday afternoon to chat with them for a few minutes about Outside Lands , their collaboration with Daryl Hall , their hip hop roots, and their new album. Chromeo at Outside Lands KataRokkar: You guys have had a really ambitious tour schedule doing festivals in the US and Europe. Now you are at Outside Lands [...]

You can almost never go wrong with a little Hall & Oates in your life. Smooth music 4 lyfe. Thanks to Felix Leiter for this little jam. Speaking of smooth music, I just came across this majestic website - reallysmoothmusic.com/ . I know where I'll be tonight. Rocking out to some Kenny Loggins, most likely. Also, another thing to check out is the show, Yacht Rock . Just take my word on that. Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That (Felix Leiter Rework) Download [...]

Whiskey pong was a bad choice. Sometimes, something sounds like a great idea at the time, like whiskey pong (especially after being already drunk from the flowing keg of cider), only to find out later* that it was in fact a BAD IDEA. But by the same token something may sound like an awful idea, [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News FilmMagic At 11:20PM on Thursday night at New York City's Bowery Ballroom, hundreds were waiting in anticipation for the night's main act, the '80s-inspired funk maestros known as Chromeo . As the lights dimmed, people swelled towards the stage. Two pairs of leg-shaped lamps -- from the cover of the duo's second album, 'Fancy Footwork' -- lit up. One set was fastened underneath an electric keyboard, the other, under a table holding up [...]
Hall And Oates - I Can't Go For That Here's the sex arse vid to go with it

Toronto - I don't know much about Hall & Oates . I think the only time I've listened to them is whenever Jen Polk drags us to Yacht Rock night at The Boat, which is a rather fun night. The song I Can't Go For That stands out for me only because of the BBC show The Mighty Boosh . In the show, one of the characters- Bob Fossil, dances to this song: Now watch him describe animals: [...]
Grin and bear it. I clenched my teeth reading, literally, five posts in a row from friends who were at this concert. The bird and the bee, The Swell Season and She & Him. It is perhaps the most perfect summer show on the Hollywood Bowl's summer schedule this year. "Why didn't you just buy [...]
Apparently based out of Paris and Berlin, Walter Sobcek is a bit of a mystery, producing only a few remixes and covers thus far (including one of the best 1901 remixes I have heard). Here they have a perfect specimen of R&B tinged synth-pop where vocoder verses give way to the creamy chorus of this Hall and Oates cover. Kind of like that lush, soulful, LA vibe Mayer Hawthorne was going for. There is a lot of 80's in this song (only without the reverbed drums, for which I am very thankful). It comes complete with a [...]
:: Shellac tour dates ! :: Shockingly, Liz Phair 's Funstyle ended up losing her a record deal and a manager. Also, not really shockingly. :: Fuck Yeah Fest continues to head up the redundancy committee of redundancy and use the FYF Fest moniker. But hey, the lineup is pretty sweet . :: Major League Baseball continues to court the cool kids , this time by kicking it with The Hold Steady . :: Speaking of MLB and The Boss, [...]

Today marks the 25 th anniversary of Love Aid, a sentence that makes me feel old. I wrote what I think is my definitive take on the day two years ago. I have nothing new to add, except for a few minor edits. But it's the 25 th anniversary of a big event I actually attended, so I will recycle that post and re-upload my Live Aid mix, ripped from DVD. The music was mostly terrible, the artists tended to be self-serving and [...]

Right click/Save As to download mix I love the Sound Opinions Podcast out of Chicago. Recently, the guys from Sound Opinions covered their guilty pleasure songs. Basically, guilty pleasures are songs that you like and are embarrassed to admit liking or perceive to be unpopular with other people. The former situation is the case for me. Below I've listed at least 19 songs (possibly 20-see the note under #20) that I like, but would not cop to liking publicly-until now. Have a look, and if you are up to it, share a few that hold the [...]

CONAN O'BRIEN Of all the acts in this year's lineup I was most excited about a comedian. The line for the first Conan show apparently started at five in the morning. I got there a humble three hours before his 1pm showtime and still was turned away due to unorganized lines and strange complications. Me and my friends felt defeated and had to watch a live telecast of the show under the searing sun. I guess just knowing that I was within the general radius [...]

Hydrogen peroxide? Or day 2 of Hall & Oates's Songblague domination? Well, this is some bleachy soul. But soul nonetheless. Forgive the double dose. 2 reasons why it's gotta be this way - I'm listening to nothing else right now and, having logged 72 work hours last week plus an intense day yesterday, I'm too fried to go too far from the audio comfort zone of the moment. No apologies are needed really. This jam's got it going on. It comes from just before they set up camp in the Top 10. [...]

I'm just gonna say it. Private Eyes is a stone cold classic, end to end. I know it's easy to get caught up in giggles about Oates's mustache, but the hits are hits for a reason. And great pop craftsmen should be revered for tapping the pleasure center of the body politic. Seriously, you go write a song as slinky and minimal as "I Can't Go For That." But the album tracks are just as strong. The whole record captures the best parts of the early-'80s pop zeitgeist (and any Songblague listener knows that's much appreciated around here). [...]

The ninth annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival kicked off Thursday afternoon. As we hit the midpoint of the festie we thought we'd take a peak at what's been going on in Manchester besides some blistering heat and humidity. Here's what's gone down so far… Day One: Neon Indian brought some scantily clad ladies onstage with them All Songs Considered has some fantastic photos from day one [...]

I really don't even know what to say about this song except that I think it's really freakin fun. It seems to me that NYC duo Streetlab has made a name for itself with rockin covers of classic 80s jams, but if this tune is any indication, then it would seem that they are perfectly capable of rocking any dancefloor in Anytown, USA with their original tunes as well. But I guess I wouldn't be too disappointed if a crazy remix of Hall and Oates made its way into some sort of playlist at any point. [...]
