Words/Mixtape: Mike Oldham Genres: Post Rock/Math/Ambient/Electronica Just like Oliver's mixtape recently, I have no theme for my mixtape... these are just a few of my favourite tracks knocking around on the hard drive. A mixture of Post Rock, Electronica, Math Rock & Ambient. Yes it's a bit post rock heavy but that's just how I like it. Hopefully you'll find something awesome that you've never heard before.. Enjoy. 1. Talk Talk - New Grass (Early Post Rock? from this rather famous 80/90s band) 2. [...]

So the Hard Working Class Heroes weekend is nigh. What is the story with that fucking title though? It makes no semantic sense at all, either as a clumsy pun, or as some sort of social commentary on the acts' backgrounds? It sounds like a Billy Bragg style socialist-folk convention, or a weak, wistful nod back to the time when most Dublin bands were on the dole, as opposed to middle class, internet savvy, self-financed, meeja monkeys. And what's this about Heroes? As much as I admire a few of the bands playing, how many of them would [...]

I was meant to review Halves first EP The Revenge back in May, but never got round to it. Nothing new there then. Their second EP Haunt Me When I'm Drowsy has been out a month or so now, so better write something methinks. We're very much in the post-rock territory with this Dublin outfit. Sounds reminiscent of all the usual suspects can be found across both outputs: a pinch of Godspeed and Mogwai in quiet/loud/building/epic bits, a dash of Sigur Ros in the vocals and strings, and a soupçon of 65daysofstatic in the [...]

So after all the talk and the hoo-hah and the scumbags and the line-up announcements and the pictures of burning tents and the hating and the rain and the mud and more talk and hoo-hah, Oxegen has rolled around again, boasting what is probably the best line-up of all European festivals. Those of you who have been there before and have been to any other festival other than it too can attest that as far as things-to-do is concerned Oxegen is severely lacking but nobody can argue with the quality line-up showcasing some of the best that music is offering [...]

Cormac went to see Halves last night. This is his review. On a bleak day in July when the horizon was dark, rain poured across the city and thunder clattered in the sky, it was well worth my time to trudge through the traffic and commuter chaos to witness a magnificent performance from Halves in Crawdaddy. The four piece Dublin based band (occasionally accompanied by a cellist) create brave and inviting soundscapes that rise and fall gracefully through accomplished musicianship and a willingness to bring their sound to interesting places using an [...]
