Big Daddy Kane - Ain't No Half Steppin Yo. So continueing on from my first post involing 'Juice Crew' it makes perfect sense to showcase another member and probably one of the most respected and skillful names in hip hop the mighty Big Daddy Kane. So for those of you who may have been living under a rock I shall hit you with the full skinny on this amazing artist then I'm going to break down the track 'Ain't No Half Steppin' . [...]

....or how Johnny cooked up How Soon Is Now ? How Soon Is Now? - don't forget the question mark! - is the song that people who dislike The Smiths like. Those same people who would lazily decree The Smiths as ' miserable ' whilst frantically waving a 123 of Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now right under your nose (" Exhibit A, M'Lud !") embraced How Soon Is Now? as if it were the returning of The Messiah himself. It's true! As well as being a dancefloor filler from Dublin [...]

This pick has been inspired by listening to old DV One mixes while I rode around today. From Bohannon's Stop & Go , released in 1973. Hamilton Bohannon - "Save Their Souls"

Last night I get a message from P.tone: "hen to pan, can not reconcile god to man." I don't know what to do with that. But I somehow think its true. Sure, he's been missing, some things, some days, some people. But I understand. Happy birthday jackass. Oroborus to you. vanmega : Hamilton Bohannon - Let's Start The Dance [ mp3 ] On the new-ish Mr. Oizo album there's an unfortunately named track, "Gay Dentists" . Title aside, it's a solid electro jam… it's heavy with lots of tape stop and glitchy effects. I wanted to make a re-edit of the track removing some of the really insane parts, putting the focus on the more disco-y parts. I went searching for the sample sources and found this Hamilton Bohannon track, which turns out to be the entire basis [...]

Hamilton Bohannon - South African Man Hamilton plies his hypnotic trade on this 9/4 mesmerisation experience. Thanks to zip chim for saving me from the tragedy of possibly not hearing this. Observations: 1. The bass player (which is who? Fernando Saunders , I guess?) is going fucking mental. Check out when he varies his line slightly at 1:50. Kaboom. 2. The dude (or lady) on the guiro is scraping every 4 beats, while the song is in 9, so, if my calculations are correct, they re-synchronize every [...]

Here's an odd one Hamilton did in 1985. It's follows his stripped down, percussive formula, but adds prominent strange little sounds to the mix. This is the first of many scores from Tequila Sunrise's excellent 50 cent sale that I will be posting. Also, if you need more Bohannon, don't forget the mix I posted last April. [...]

Please stop. I really try to hold back on my "DJ rants", but damn y'all make it tough. What is going on? Is it really that the general populous cannot tell when a DJ is not good? Anyway, I'll try to keep this a bit more constructive, instructional or like a "best practice" type of [...]
