While neither the tour dates nor the EP were a surprise to social media stalkers, today's vast and detailed announcement of Johnny Foreigner 's new release, new U.S. label and North American tour dates was still entirely exciting. The Birmingham, England-based noise-pop titans will release a new digital EP titled Names Oct. 27 via longtime label Alcopop! Records in the U.K. as well as the band's new U.S. label home, Swerp. Chicago-based Swerp, incidentally, is run by the fellow who made the wonderful video for "Harriet, By Proxy," from [...]

Indie power trio Hammer No More the Fingers has returned with a bundle of new ideas. Not all of these ideas carry the same weight, but at its worst Pink Worm upholds the standard of their previous indie rock shenanigans and at its best stands as a shining example for how the genre is done. [...]
Got a pair of tunes for your Thursday night, both different takes on guitar-heavy indie rock. One is from Hammer No More The Fingers and the other from White Fang. Read on to check 'em out.

The whiskey-soaked sounds of Hawks & Doves (ex-Planes Mistaken For Star frontman Gared O'Donnell) will fill up Gallery 5 tonight along with a bunch of great bands including Worn In Red, The Catalyst and The Future Now . Hawks & Doves is promoting his newest release "Year One," which is a pretty stellar album. Hammer No More The Fingers are playing June 20 at the Republic in support of their new EP "The Pink Worm." The band plays kilter [...]

It's back to being a busy week for new releases. We'll probably miss mentioning more than a few records that we're excited about this week, but let's start with a new EP from Little Boots (pictured). This woman can do no wrong. Pitchfork offers some foul words for Future of the Left , but the band responds with some words of their own . Funny men Jimmy Fallon and Jesse Popp put out albums as well. Also take note of new stuff from Dent May , Guided by [...]

It's taken more time than usual, but it's finally ready... Blogophilia 28 represents tracks compiled from April through mid May, and was rendered down while finishing work in U.S., and traveling to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. That stated, the only real excuse for its delay is that I was pretty busy. Look for 29 soon! This is a mix where nearly all of the artists are new to the Blogophilia series. The only returnees are Vetiver and Starfucker. It's hard to believe we never had a Sebadoh track. Enjoy! Blogophilia 28 Promotional MP3s collected from blogs [...]

Hammer No More The Fingers has always drawn me into their fun-filled rock adventure that's full of weird twists and turns and keeps me wanting to listen to just a little bit longer. The guys are coming back through Richmond supporting their new LP Black Shark and will be rocking out at Strange Matter on July 20 with The Last Century and Deleted Scenes . Hammer No More The Fingers - Steam [...]
The rumor floating around is that Hammer No More The Fingers was born in 1994 when band members Jeff Stickley, Joe Hall and Duncan Webster were just 10 years old and already cranking out original tunes in their hometown of Durham, N.C. The trio certainly picked one of the best times and settings to develop [...]

Hammer No More the Fingers (HNMTF) were a glaring omission in our Triangle of NC feature on the Paper Crane Collective last week. We heard it from fans of the band, "Where is Hammer No More the Fingers?!?" I'll cop to it-I (Clif) never heard of them before! Oh, the shock, the horror... right under my nose and everything. It happens... I don't sit on my arse, though. I went out and immersed myself in this Durham band, a three-piece outfit that has flown under the radar for a while, but apparently not [...]
While this time of year brings warmer temperatures and more hours of daylight, this week's new releases are thematically more fitting for the dead of winter - with its cold, wickedness, grit and grime, absence of leaves, grass and flowers, and long hours of darkness. For lovers of garage rock, there's much to offer this [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

mp3: Hammer No More The Fingers - "Leroy" You always get this sneaky feeling that there are two sides to Durham's Hammer No More The Fingers. There's the dark and understated; the way they weave dual loyalties into a song like "The Agency," in which they quote their former album name over and over and then instructed to take care of ourselves why they take care of the agency. I'm not sure if that song is a lament or a complaint about their last album [...]

Black Shark by Hammer No More the Fingers In 1993, Simple Machine record label (out of Washington, DC) started a "Working Holiday" monthly record club that featured bands which included Scrawl, Lungfish, Lois, Jawbox and Superchunk. Hammer No More The Fingers would have fit perfectly alongside this collection of 90's indie-rock bands as the band plays high-energy "college rock" which is tempered by a dark edge beneath the catchy hooks. Hammer No More The Fingers wrote their second LP, Black Shark , while playing over two [...]
South by Southwest may be the rear view mirror, but there's still plenty of opportunities to hear new music. Case in point is this week's Friday Mixtape, which features brand new jams from the likes of Fleet Foxes, Fucked Up, Thurston Moore, Bill Callahan, YACHT, and more. Plus, courtesy of our friends at Cover Me , there are covers of everyone from Kanye West and Adele to Leonard Cohen and Broken Social Scene posted below. And we still have mentioned the remixes, as well as the mp3s from brand spakin' new acts worth knowing. So, yeah, South by Southwest, [...]

Tweet Now using a hammer is a tricky skill. You've got your nails, you've got your wall / plank / torture victim and then nestled ever so close to that nail are your fingers. Now you know you need some power to penetrate the wall / plank / forehead but placement is also crucial. It's a tough call and often an uncomfortable one. I'd never think of naming a band after the whole troublesome experience but these chaps have, we give you, Hammer No More [...]
88.1 WKNC Pick of the Week 2/8/11, written by DJ Switch, WKNC deejay You never think your kid's ugly. Well, at least you never tell your kid you think they're ugly. My parents never did. They did say I have a face for radio, but I never quite got what that meant. Either way, there's no need to lie about the beauty of WKNC's Double Barrel Benefit compilation, because even though the student radio station put it together, it's a handsome piece of local music by all objective accounts. [...]
