![[MEGA Playlist] 60+ Instrumental Tracks You Need to Listen to](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4741497_lg.jpg)
Everyone loves lyrics. Whether they're light-hearted and playful, soul-gripping and gut-wrenching, or abstract and avant garde, we all love to sing along, relate certain verses to our personal lives, or just be taken away by another person's story. On the other hand, hearing a great instrumental track is an entirely different experience. Without having words to identify with, your brain is free to let the music create an image in your mind. The interpretation is more so up to you than if you had someone defining it with their own words. Having this blank canvas allows your mind [...]
Following up on this week's New Releases , we have some more wonderful stuff from the king of post-rock, Hammock . From their album Departure Songs , which dropped on October 2nd, "(Tonight) We Burn Like Stars That Never Die" is yet another fantastically strung-out song molded from the landscapes and boundless spaces created by one of the most talented groups in their genre. Hammock has proved yet again that every they are on top of their game and show no sign of slowing down.
Hammock - Cold Front My suggestion is to save this video for later, when you get home tonight. Turn down the lights, settle into a nice cup of hot tea, find the biggest HD screen in the house, then fire up this slow, cinematic masterpiece of a video by filmmaker David Altobelli . Granted, it probably wasn’t terribly difficult to come up with such inspired, strong material when you start with the velvet dream drone of Nashville duo Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson . This is the lead track [...]
Every artist that didn't release in September seems to be on this week's list as it's chock full of mainstream and small bar artists. Get your Post-It Notes ready... Lightning , the newest from Matt & Kim arrives today. "Let's Go" already has tabs as being a track we'll hate in a few months if we listen to mainstream radio, but we'll always be happy to hear more from the upbeat, youthful lyrics of Matt Johnson, and this album is no exception. Hammock (above) find themselves at the complete [...]

On Tuesday I caught a premier for 7 Psychopaths (pretty ridiculous/bloody movie, I enjoyed it immensely). One of the psychopaths is created when his daughter is murdered and he decides to follow the murderer around. He follows him through 15 years in the penitentiary. He follows him out of the joint to his home. He follows him to his new home (as he relocates to escape the father). He continues to trail him until, well, you'll have to see for yourself. I immediately knew what the murderer was feeling as I connected it to the Farina in my [...]

It's nice to see Hammock returning back into my periphery as they'll be releasing a their new EP Departure Songs next week. You can stream the majestically haunting new track "(Tonight) We Burn Like Stars That Never Die" along with a new album trailer below.

Hammock rank among my favorite bands of the ambient genre. They have a slew of fantastic albums including their 2005 debut Kenotic which may be my favorite all-time favorite achievement of the genre. The band recently released a the new Asleep In The Downlights EP which featuring the ghostly new tune "Sinking Inside Yourself" . Have a listen, and pick up the EP below. This little gem appeared in my inbox last week from shoegazey duo Hammock . Comprised of Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson, the two have been making music together for quite some time but I just got my first taste from the Nashville pair a few days ago. If you like Explosions in the Sky you'll really enjoy what Hammock bring to the table, spacey guitar rock with delicately placed melodies and fleeting vocals to string your ears along for the ride. Hammock released an EP recently and you can listen to the entire [...]
Absolutely in love with the new M83 album - or double album, a 22-song hunk of ebbs and flows that goes everywhere and nowhere, all at once, and together. It's a pretty amazing record for the first four tracks - the "Intro" that features Zola Jesus on vocals and the truly inspiring "Midnight City" that is quickly becoming one of my favorite tracks of the year, then into the '80s era throwback "Reunion" (appropriately titled) and the short instrumental "Where the Boats Go." But it's the next song, the somber, seductive, heart wrenching "Wait" that really starts to [...]

jon middleton and roy vizer together make up the victoria, british columbia folk roots duo jon and roy . if there's no pretense in the name, neither is there any in the music. it's simply good. another noon , their second album together, wouldn't be out of place in the brushfire records catalogue, with its loose, mostly acoustic & occasionally reggae-tinted grooves. have a listen to the title song and one other, and then find out more about another noon here . jon and roy - another noon [...]
