Canberra gents Hancock Basement are celebrating their newest ditty "One In A Million Does" with a mini tour through the back end of November. The tune is a pop-thumper with big drums, a shit-load of vocal hooks served up with those pleasing Hancock harmonies and a Hail Mary chorus. The guys had hip hop producer D'Opus work the track, incorporating some minimal but tasteful production to add a little quirkiness to the mix. The best thing about this tune is that it sounds like Hancock Basement. The track comes complete with an amusing music [...]

Nothing like some new, bouncy Australian pop from folks we've excitedly featured in the past . Hancock Basement remains unencumbered by genre trends, moving forward with their own brand of pop weirdness, oooh-ahhhs, and general likeability. They get me going on a day like today, where I need all the energy I can muster to pack for a work trip to New Orleans. [That being said, just so you're not thrown off, I will be gone for about a week, unable to do much concerning Knox Road. Not to worry, I'll be back full throttle the week [...]

I've been busy and have neglected you. My head has been full of mundane concerns like scheduling work and learning a new job and getting those damn dishes done. By the end of the day, I'm spent. Today I intended to spend my first morning off having a bloody good sleep in. I made it to 7:45. I do have the next three days off though due to our ANZAC Day long weekend and am hanging out for the big game tomorrow afternoon. Go Pies! Given the early hour and my subsequently fragile grip on rational [...]

~ Paul and the Patients - "Tiny Red Light" ~ A very good song, but perhaps a bit too commercial as I instantly can imagine it being used in any prime time American teen drama (maybe it already has, what do I know?). But since I like it very much, I'll overlook that. Nice contrast between male and female vocals. Kinda Snow Patrol-ish? ~ Mirrors - "Look At Me" ~ This is so deliciously 80's New Romantic to me. And this trio hails from the home of New [...]
![Hancock Basement – Hancock Basement [Mix Tape Monday]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2302108_lg.jpg)
This week on our Mix Tape Monday we are once again heading back to Australia, home of The Middle East , to bring you this band Hancock Basement. They have just a few songs and 73s out there so far as best as I can tell, but I am already thinking we may hear some things from these guys. They have kind of a 80s bar rock sound, but done with the utmost skill and feeling so that it just comes across as great old school rock jams. The song below, 'Oh Todd', certainly strongly has [...]

Sorry, we have no blurb today. Please proceed directly to the music below. Thank you. I'm a little late in reporting this, but InSound has their January MixTape up for free download . As usual it's hit and miss (mostly hit this month), but I always find a few songs that make the download time well worth it. I was particularly fond of the Oh No Ono (pictured above) track. MP3: Oh No Ono - Helplessly Young [...]

As I was packing this morning to head home for Thanksgiving I decided I needed something upbeat spinning in the background. I know, "upbeat" and Lee? Not usually associated with each other. (Just kidding, though Jamie would lead you to believe otherwise.) So I surfed through the overflowing inbox (a good thing - we don't mind) and found what I was looking for in Hancock Basement. Driving percussion, pounding keys, distorted guitar and call-and-response vocals best represent Hancock Basement's sound, though flourishes of saxophone surface throughout. At once accessible and playful, the quartet from Australia insist that you [...]

Hyperbole devotees might remember me talking about Canberra lads Hancock Basement before. And rightfully so, their razor-sharp indie rock is crazily hard to shake, with hooks aplenty and interesting instrumental twists around every corner. That pedigree has held over with their latest offering, Oh Todd, a cruisy indie ballad dedicated to the band's Casanova bassist, ah, Todd. The formula seems simple enough, but it's the rusty guitar flourishes and refreshing sparseness of the track that really make this a top notch gem. Hancock Basement - Ohh Todd [...]

Is it too obvious that I made the poster myself? Probs probs. Anyway, people wonder why I talk about Canberra like I do. Because it's Canberra. And I can. And tomorrow night, shit goes down. Shit, we've got the lovely WOW , Hyperbole favourites Hancock Basement and the ever elusive Dardanelles all on the one bill. Shit's huge. And Tom and I are spinnin' rekkids/CDRz. My prediction for the night? Me throwing down too many Bag Raiders tracks, awkward mixing from Paper Planes >>to>> Fuck Tha Police [...]

Interpol were pretty great last night down at Moore Park and it was another remider of how much I've truly missed good old guitar bands. I've been getting that feeling quite a bit lately, what after the Jens Lekman album and more recently the Teenz' album not containing anything with the words Phantom or Pogo in it. To bang or not to bang? Either way, kids should definitely get wise to these guys, Hancock Basement , direct from the A(ustralian).C(apital).T(errit ory). Some of you should already [...]
