We all love lists, and we all love sarcasm. Though, I think its important to reflect upon the last year of music, I'm going to do so through the use of a list. It was a fantastic year full of awesome albums, and I'm going to count down a bunch of my favorites, and give you something to listen to while reading. 45. Beirut - Riptide Beirut - Santa Fe A much more accessible, hookladen, and easy to enjoy album was released by Beirut this year. This album will [...]

The lead up to Coachella (see the Coachella Mix) and Record Store Day (extensive RSD mixes with rare songs), meant that we didn't get to all of the Best New Releases for the week of April 12th. In addition to the regularly scheduled releases that week, there were the hundreds of limited edition vinyl releases [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Artwork by Exploding Dog After making a favorite of 2010 list, I was more aware than ever of how hard it is for one person to gather and absorb all the music out there. For this reason I will never make a "Best Of" list, I don't feel like I have the ability to make such judgements, but I can share favorites. Here's what I enjoyed the most (I apologize in advance for botching some release dates). I listened to more music than I [...]
The S-25 Mix is short for The Sunday 25 Songs Mix, where we put together a mix of 25 tracks (sometimes more) we love from all genres and time periods of music. Over the past two weeks, we put out the Songs About Cars mixes, many of which were recommended by our readers. But this [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
Just got the go ahead to share another track from the Dag For Dag s/t album. It's coming to America in just a short while, so be on the look out! MP3: Dag For Dag - Hands and Knees Maybe it's the male/female rock duo, but I get a decent Raveonettes vibe from DfD. Less [...]

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are just a few of the songs that would get there own individual posts on here on GIMME TINNITUS, if I only had the time. This time it's not just remixes. Listen. Downloadables: Minajah (mp3) by True Womanhood (part of the REEL TOO REEL project) Go Ahead ( Snoretex [...]

2010 was a great year for Boston bands, with killer records from Kingsley Flood, Viva Viva, Doomstar!, Faces On Film and St. Claire, just to name a few. Well, 2011 is shaping up to be even better. Barely 2 weeks into the year Hands and Knees has released Wholesome , their follow-up to 2009's excellent Et tu, Fluffy? and my personal soundtrack to the past few weeks (and it's not leaving the rotation anytime soon). Wholesome plays like your favorite mixtape -- you know, the one that you listened to [...]
Sitting at the Piano Disappearing Massachusetts based art pop quartet Hands & Knees release their newest album entitled 'Wholesome' today. Released digitally and available for free, or the pay what you want route on bandcamp might give you the idea that this is just another one to pass over. I assure you, it is not. Recorded here in Massachusetts (Shelburne Falls to be exact) Hands & Knees pull from a multitude of influences on this album. This album is a pure sing-a-long treat and steals your attention from the get go. Album opener 'Throw [...]

DOWNLOAD MP3: Hands and Knees - "Sitting at the Piano Disappearing" With their third LP entitled Wholesome set to drop on January 25, Boston band Hands and Knees make it clear that they're not new to this game. Take this punchy little fresh track "Sitting at the Piano Disappearing", for instance. Its vehemently sharp bassline opens the cut, with stammering percussion and angular guitar riffs that are forceful and the furthest thing from contrived. Vocalist/Guitarist Jeff O'Brien sets off some lovely coos over a few dillipidated bridges, and we'll call it [...]

So, this is the first of what will be a quarterly thing on Visible Voice...the seasonal mixtape. I plan to use these mixtapes as an opportunity to share some of my favorite new music. Great tunes by local or not-so-local bands that you should know and, in many cases, tracks that have not been officially or widely released yet. For this inaugural winter mix a cold, snowy Boston is my (our) backdrop and, fittingly for this time of year, many of the songs here evoke themes of reflection. During the cold winter months I find that [...]

OK, it's TIME! Time for what you ask? Well, my friend, it is now time to feature one of the bestest bands around; one that I fell in love with a very long time ago; one that is no secret to Boston (but still, somehow, remains to be a secret to Boston) and one that I cannot wait to share with you (AGAIN!). You remember ...the new unreleased record! from back in August? Well, that album now has a [...]

I've said it once , I've said it a million times : I adore Massachusetts' own Hands and Knees . These garage rockers know how to write some catchy tunes. And they're giving them away for free! Download their new album Dancing on Your Tears here . [via @bradleysalmanac ]

>> We walk the streets of this city every day and we still don't know where all the bands spring from. Well, we do, of course , but we're constantly surprised when we encounter another one we like. And we certainly like the quirky pop of Whistle Jacket , which has just self-released an eighth full-length called Hello Heart . The collective is fronted by Michael Leyden, who long ago must have grown tired of hearing the adjective quirky attached to his work. But Mr. Leyden's high, nasal vocal delivery -- reminiscent, yes, of Alec Ounsworth -- [...]
