New York Night Train 's Jonathan Toubin was seriously injured in Portland last month, when a cab burst through his ground floor hotel room wall and ran him over . While Toubin recovers in an intensive care unit in a Portland hospital, his friends are throwing a series of benefits nationwide. The SF benefit is, as the poster says, Wednesday, January 18th at the Mezzanine, with the stellar lineup of Ty Segall , Shannon and the Clams , Hank IV and Lenz , with DJ Primo and more. [...]

Here's an animated (and probably NSFW) video for the title track from Golden Boys member John Wesley Coleman III 's new solo LP, Little Miss Keith Richards , out now on Daggerman . Coleman performs with Rayon Beach and SF's Hank IV (who are releasing a new 73) at El Rio on Saturday, July 30th (9pm, $7). Tweet Anthony Bedard (Hank IV) at Way Behind the Music, Noise Pop 2011 from The Bay Bridged on Vimeo . By far the quirkiest event on Noise Pop's schedule this year was Way Behind the Music, a showcase of readings of musicians' memoirs by local musicians, writers and comedians, sponsored by the literary festival Litquake . With such a curious description, choosing Way Behind the Music as my one night off from live music was destiny. Work being read and performed [...]
Puppet limbs, animation, trash robots, and more accompany the fellows of Hank IV in their new video for "Garbage Star," off III , which is out today on Siltbreeze . The video was done by Clean White Lines , who continue their winning streak with this one.

We're now just a week away from the Beatleocalypse and trust me, 9/9/09 may just end up the end of the world or the heralding of paradise on Earth if you follow any of the online forums discussing such matters. On one such den of iniquity (where I admittedly lurk. sigh), one of the key engineers in charge of remastering these Arcs of the Covenantses for the masses and smaller mass of obsessives actually posted and provided helpful corrections and calming words about the process and the source material. NOT GOOD ENOUGH . To paraphrase one response, "Are you [...]
yow. hank iv. or hiv as they're occasionally dumbbreviated to. i'll keep this as short and sweet (or dwarfed and bitter, depending on yr inclincation) like the record, as it's not new but i just got the vinyl… feels odd to listen to anything on siltbreeze not buried under an avalanche of muck. but this is [...]

Hot on the heels of Portland's DRUMMER BUMMER comes the Slabtown Bender , a three-day punk rock filth-fest that will likely divide the city-you either really want to be a part of it, or you'll want to run far, far away. The lineup is packed with goodness: PDX rock from The Mean Jeans and Pure Country Gold and some sweet rock 'n' roll soul from Memphis in King Louie and the Loose Diamonds . But Saturday, Feb. 7 will be the big night with a bill consisting of the lovely [...]
"Yeah, I wrap King-Size Snickers bars in $20 bills and give those out." Tom, flaunting his money to trick-or-treaters "I'll tell ya what-os. I thought he was gonna reach right out and damn me to Hell-os!" -- Philly Boy Roy, fearing final judgment during the Pope's mast on Ben Franklin Parkway "Jim Beam, dude!" -- A member of Papa Roach, explaining why he was playing basketball on a Sunday afternoon [Many more quotes to come.] [ TBSOWFMU - 10/14/08 / Podmirth [...]

The annual Budget Rock Showcase takes over the The Stork Club in Oakland this weekend for "the West Coast's longest running festival for trashy, out of tune (formerly known as 'garage') wacked out music otherwise ignored by the Indie Rock Establishment." With over thirty bands playing over four nights, there's a lot to check out, including some quality local bands like Sir Lord Von Raven (a newish psych rock band featuring former members of The Time Flys and The Gris Gris), The [...]

Celebrating the "Definitive Edition" reissues of their early albums on Matador Records , Boston post-punk pioneers Mission of Burma are swinging into town for two shows this Friday and Saturday night at The Independent . Each night's performance is special: Friday, they'll be playing Signals, Calls & Marches in its entirety, and Saturday they'll do the same for their equally awesome Vs. If you like heady, angular rock, you'd do well to check out one of these shows, and lucky for you, we're giving away a [...]

More MP3's for grabs courtesy of our artists performing at WFMU's first SXSW bash in Austin on March 14th at Spiro's. While the Hank IV may have raised the ire of anyone showing up to see Bocephus' grandson (sorry, these guys have interrupted that particular line) they put on one hell of a rocking performance. Singer Bob McDonald (ex-the Denver hardcore band Bum Kon who have a reissue due imminently) has just become ambulatory after screwing up his knee a few months back in San Francisco with one of his trademark stage pirouettes; while we didn't [...]
All right, let us continue looking forward to SXSW 2008. The previous 42 songs we've posted so far this year can be found here, here, here, and here. Lots more gooduns are queued up and ready to play, so keep coming back if you like. Lotsa stuff going on in town this weekend, I'll let folks know the lowdown about the zydeco, and whatnot that I know about in da bay... This weekend, a member of Zydeco's first family, C.J Chenier and his Red Hot Louisiana Band are in town. He's the turbo charged son of Clifton Chenier, and an an internationally acclaimed performer promoting his latest release on Alligator Records, "Step It Up", recorded in Maurice, Louisiana. They are performing at Biscuits & Blues downtown, about the only place lately to see a washboard in action in San Francisco. [...]

I realize that most of what people want out of SXSW has been covered by now, but that's only if you were interested in the Cold War Kids and whatever other huge bands that everyone already knows about. Which isn't to say that you've never heard of any of these bands, but that is largely besides the point! So, here's some of the songs I enjoyed using SXSW's music player. Ane Brun - To Let Myself Go - (MP3, 3 MB) I've meant to talk about Ane Brun on here for [...]
"You can do this, Tommy. You can do this. Another show. No big deal. Just do this for three hours, keep those people happy. You keep those people happy! That's what you do, you keep 'em happy." -- Tom, shaking off the rust "I may smack some of them around once in a while, but I don't vote for them." -- Spike on how he treats Republicans "Woe is the person that needs discipline from you." -- Tom, lamenting the soul that needs Spike to fill the [...]
