So we've made it to another Friday, and the release schedule continues to slow down. Luckily, a few bigger releases fell into my weekly rotation and deserve one of those Shane style talking points type posts: Hank Williams III – Damn Right Rebel Proud It's hard to hate on Hank III. He's managed to escape the legacy of his name and build his own fan base the hard way. While he's as likely to be played before a punk show or in a tattoo parlor as he is [...]
Twin Cities: - The Badger Herald interviews Slug. ( link ) - City Pages & The Wake list all the local Halloween shows. ( link ) ( link ) - "Over the last couple years of playing live, I've taken to introducing "Black Gold" & "Lately" as commentaries on the Bush Sr. & Jr. eras, respectively, as Parts 1 & 2 of a trilogy that I hoped I would never have to finish. This is Part 3." - Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner on the free release of "Let's All Kill Each Other." ( [...]

In celebration of the imminent humiliation for the state's flagship university, I'm happy to present an expanded Florida Hate Week edition of Deep South Smack Talk . Speaking for the evil swamp lizards, we have my oldest friend and occasional A Free Man commentor, Jamie. He and I went through high school together and despite his questionable academic pedigree, Jamie's one of the sharpest folks I know. He's currently a professor of history in the heart of Mormon country. I'm hoping to convince Jamie to be a periodic guest blogger here at A Free Man, so let's [...]

Not much by way of metal releases this week, but it's not every day that AC/DC graces us with a new record, so enjoy. AC/DC - Black Ice (Columbia) Oft-imitated and never equaled, AC/DC sound pretty much just like they've always sounded over the past 35 years on their new studio album. Unless you've got an aversion [...]

Hank Williams III - Country Heroes (uit Straight to Hell , 2006) Hank Williams III - Dick in Dixie (uit Straight to Hell , 2006) [...]

Hank III - Trashville [ purchase ] Hank III - Dick in Dixie [ purchase ] Hank III - Grand Ole Opry (Ain't So Grand Anymore) (live) [ preorder ] While there are no shortage of artists out there who are anti-Nashville and penning Nashville protest songs no one has taken it to the level Hank III has. Born Shelton Hank Williams III, Hank III has waged a virtual personal war against Nashville and one of it's biggest [...]

Some good news popped up on Hank III's Official Site . I quote: A true release date for "Damn Right & Rebel Proud" has been decided. This will have an official press release in the VERY near future. Thank you to everyone for your support, but for the time being there is no need to reach out to Curb about "Damn Right & Rebel Proud." Rest assured that this new album is well worth the wait. Be ready for a few tracks that have been added to the [...]

I just thought I'd acknowledge that this is the six hundred and sixty sixth post on ninebullets.net. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast Danzig - Until You Call On The Dark The Legendary Shack Shakers - Where's The Devil When You Need Him Hank III - Devil's Daughter I wish I had noticed this before. I would have made a bigger post out of this instead of scanning my library real quick.

Ok, here's the deal. Hank 3 is Hank Williams grandson. He's basically saying fuck you to the entire country music industry, even though one of the biggest labels in Nashville "secretly" puts out his records. His songs are all about doing drugs, acting bad, and having fun. I (JF) saw him perform at SXSW 2 years ago, and was so excited about him, I almost abandoned my tour to follow him around the USA. He basically has had the same shtick for a few years, but he's so fucking awesome, its hard to complain. When he plays live [...]

As an unapologetic Counting Crows fan I feel obligated to repost some news I saw on Stereogum . The Counting Crows have set a release date of March 25 for their first studio release since 2002's Hard Candy . It is divided into to parts; rockers (Saturday nights) and acoustic/country tunes (Sunday mornings). They have also made one track from each section available for free download on their official site . Tracklisting: Saturday Nights [...]

I was really excited to see this show. There isn't a III show in the Tampa/St. Pete area that doesn't find me in attendance, and despite being a fan of their for many years, I had never seen Nashville Pussy . Since both bands were pulling opening slots, I got to Jannus early to ensure I didn't miss Nashville Pussy. As a result, I was stuck waiting for quite a while...2 1/2 big beers long. Long enough that the wife, whom I had left at home to join me later so I wouldn't miss Nashville Pussy, even made it [...]

It's going to be a bit of a redneck weekend for me, as I go tonight to see Hank III, then tomorrow to a RibFest. Hank Williams III is actually the middle act, between Nashville Pussy and headliners the Reverend Horton Heat. The Reverend I saw at a Warped Tour appearance about 10 years ago; Nashville Pussy I have never seen. I'll admit also to not being real familiar with their music. So I tracked some down and I think I'm going to like them just fine. [...]

. According to Curb , Hank III 's new album, Damn Right Rebel Proud, will be released on December 18. Now, if past action is any indicator to future action, this date will get pushed back 10 times before the album actually sees a store shelf. But we can hope Mike keeps his head out of his ass and just let's the album drop. Here is the tracklisting: The Grand Ole Opry Wild & Free Me & [...]

- I was doing some ninebullets.net calendar updating and realized I just need to quit my job...so many good shows coming and I wanna make them all so I need money...thus I need a job, but getting up at 7 am makes getting to all of these shows difficult. Oh well. I'll just have to suffer or get with the Lohan coke plan or something. The following shows I am already starting to rub one out to: Who: Bryan Lee Where: Ringside Cafe' When: [...]

I was reading on the Culture Bully blog a few days ago about Chris' experience seeing Hank Williams III live. The description – and I'm gonna ask you to go there and read it – is not what you would expect from a country music show. Typically, you're not going to hear something like, "one female member was ripped from the pit after crowd surfing (wielding two cowboy boots as weapons)." Then again, Hank III isn't your typical country music artist. From Wiki : "The grandson of Hank Williams, Sr., and the son of Hank [...]
Hank Williams III – Dick in Dixie My Saturday night last week was spent at home, drinking a PBR and listening to Ryan Adams as I finished up my mix from last week. I then went to You Set the Scene (a great blog everyone in LA/OC should be reading) and saw that Hank Williams III was playing at the Roxy and that it was sold out. I first heard his name last year around [...]
