I don't know about you, but I'm having a really hard time this Christmas finding books within budget for my friends and family... Following on from our previous post about musical gifts, those lovely people at Virgin Books have been in touch to offer you 35% off their range of music books and free postage and packing this Christmas - what more could you ask for? Have a browse around on the links below, and maybe and buy something - they're actually cheaper than Amazon at the moment on a fair few books, and there [...]

Whistling over here I can't really whistle properly - just never properly mastered the combination of lips & tongue & breath. I can do a reasonable approximation, but I sound like a sickly air mattress leaking air. My Father had a tremendous taxi whistle; with his two fingers in his mouth he could hail a cab from Jupiter. But alas, he never taught me how to do it... OK, so I have some whistling baggage, I'll admit to that. Nevertheless, I think this week's [...]

![EVERY[TRIPLE SINGLE]DAY #35 _ ESSER, HOCKEY & HAPPY MONDAYS](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1312701_lg.jpg)
L'étincelle qui déclencha ce "dancefloor burn-out" est l'album " Squirrel And G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out)" des HAPPY MONDAYS . Depuis, Esser, [...]

The Get You Goin' Track Happy Mondays - God's Cop While the Mondays' seminal 1990 opus Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches might be better known for cuts like "Kinky Afro" and "Step On," I think most Mondays fans and even casual listeners would agree this track is the album's real dark horse. Even though it never enjoyed single treatment, the track is a perfect amalgamation of everything that made the [...]
If this were any other Friday I would be fielding call after call of party offers while I tried one after the other to let the caller down gently. Usually I would be a mere hours away from spending another Friday night working the overnight shift at a local radio staion, dreading the drunken calls I knew I would be receiving at 2:01AM saying "Dude! You shoulda been there!..." But as I mentioned last week, those days are no more; I have quit my deadend weekend job, and I plan on catching up on 3 years of missed party opportunities [...]

in the same way that i had trouble waiting for the sex and the city movie, i'm impatiently awaiting the second series of ashes to ashes . january 2009, i'm assuming.....aaaaargh! now, opinion is divided on whether there should be a 90s version. i'm going to weigh in on that particular debate - HELL YES. gene hunt grappling with loved up cheesy quavers on the early 90s rave scene? genius. if it has to be named after a david bowie song...loving the alien? i have never heard it by the way, i just [...]
Tony Wilson once made the claim that Shaun Ryder was a better poet than William Butler Yeats, and that in the fullness of time, he'd come to be regarded every much as talented a genius as Mozart. I'm sure my dear friend Greer, who, in addition to making fabulous weekly contributions to the Contrast Podcast, writes an equally fabulous poetry blog called A Sweet Unrest, would be horrified at such
I promised myself last week that I was going to cut out fast food from my diet for the next 365 days. I arrived at the decision almost immediately following a delicious meal at Qdoba last week. Phoebe was there. I left the Mexican Grill feeling disappointed with myself for consuming a 1,000 calorie burrito, an order of chips with salsa, and two large sodas. I've only used my membership card eight times this year, which translates to a once-a-month savory splurge, but something about being that full of food which is so unhealthy made me [...]

On Thursday night Emily and I were transfixed by a back to back to back to back presentation of the incredibl documentary series on VH1, The Drug Years. I'd missed the shows when they first aired last year, so when I came into the first episode about fifteen minutes late, I was more than happy to sink the next four hours into VH1. I'm sure not many of you know this about me, but I am absolutely fascinated with the Drug Culture. I've never tried anything outside of social alcohol consumption and a single cigarette when [...]
He was never the bright one... Just in case you forgot the greatness, here is an article about The Happy Mondays

BB's got all the deets, including this quote from S. Ryder regarding the album's potential release date: *"Knowing us, it'll probably come out in about two years time. I mean, the other one, we had that in the can for, what, two years before that got released, because of legal problems. It took us eight or nine years to sort out all that."* MP3 at bottom. Read the full article here. MP3: Happy Mondays - 24 Hour...
Boy, you go one day without posting and a whole new month moves in on you. Alright, on with May then and the first of our four monthly series, "Vs.!" I'm pretty excited about this month's matchup, because it's only the second time in the history of the series that we've pit an artist against themselves -- the first being Paul Weller a few months back, but even that one still involved a plethora of other parties as Graham Coxon got to duke it out with Ocean Colour Scene over two different versions of the Wella [...]

A few days ago I featured 'shudda' by HerelDeduke and since then two things have happened to HerelDeduke and I am excited about both in all honesty. - First off 'shudda' won "tune of the week" over on one of the bbc radio 2 shows . Nice one mate-well deserved. -Secondly Oliver from HerelDeduke wanted to continue the 'under the influence with...' series and sat down to tell us about the musical influences in his life. Always fascinating to hear the sounds that help form the musical [...]

This post originally began as a collection of cheesy theme songs, but eventually grew into a mass of songs from the soundtracks of movies I love and adore. A good majority of them are 80s classics since I was born in '81, but there are some newer and older gems mixed in too. I had a lot of fun gathering them, since just hearing them brings back tons of good movie viewing memories (read as: makeouts). It also reminded me of how much I've always wanted the opportunity to compile a soundtrack for a movie. I have no idea how [...]
This week is all about dancing all night. I myself have never actually danced for an entire night - one of the main reasons is I've never found a place I would actually like to do so. My music tastes can be pretty picky so finding appropriate nightlife can be a problem, especially in my home city. I'm more likely to attend a late live gig rather than rave unto the sunlight. I'm also not going to pretend to be an expert on dance music and/or the myriad of electronic subcultures and/or who the best DJs are and/or the techniques [...]

"Hallelujah" !!!! comme dirait Jeff Buckley (chanson pouvant intégrer le TOP 10 des "Sadest Songs in the World").
