If you saw Phil Anselmo in the early '00s with the grossly underrated Superjoint Ritual, it was not a pretty sight. The guy was on stage, high as hell, and rambling on about anything and nothing, talking shit on everybody. It was a dark time for Phil, who has admitted to using heroin, opiates and ... Ah, the big city and its endless possibilities. Many an artist has dreamed of taking the leap and making the crucial move to a new place in pursuit of their dreams. However, as anyone who’s ever relocated will likely say, such an experience is not all a walk in the park. In Party Foreverer, folk-punk band Hard Drugs has chronicled a variety of experiences resulting from such a challenging, yet undoubtedly rewarding, endeavor. Canadian artist Jeffry Lee first formed the band Hard Drugs in 2006 with two members of his Blood Meridian group, as well as additional [...]
This is has to be one of the thinnest weeks this year for new releases by so-called 'big' named artists, with the exception of Silver Jews and Fiona Apple. In fact, Apple released her first album in seven years this week. Plus, listen to notable singles from new releases by Orca Team, Glen Hansard, White [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

A Fiona Apple album is a rare thing, both for its scarcity - this is her first album in seven years - and for the quality of art pop that her contemporaries just seem unable to match. Today sees the release of The Idler Wheel , short for a title longer than this sentence. Fans couldn't be more thrilled , nor apparently the critics, who are lining up to praise it . No doubt it will top the stacks of most KEXP listeners' shopping carts this week. Other new releases worth checking out this week include [...]

Vancouver band Hard Drugs scored big (with me anyway) with their 2008 self-titled rock opera. On June 19th they return with the follow-up Party Forever . Staying true, Party Forever isn't your typical rock record. Instead it's 10-song and a 52-page book of ink drawings based on the husband and wife team's time in NYC. Listen to "Hardest Part II" here: Here's the track list: Continue reading »

Well my friends, it's that time of year again! November is a key month in the world of Aaron Loves Meghan... it's the month where we started dating, when we got engaged, and, of course, when we got married. And every year around this time we present our latest Aaron Loves Meghan mixtape! For the newbs, on Nov. 17th, 2007, Megs & I were married and at our wedding (which I iPod DJ'd) we gave everyone there a mixtape called Aaron Loves Meghan and, of course, posted it up on tsururadio. Since then, we've [...]

After sifting through my iTunes library for some Treasure Fingers I was in the mood to look for some more of that funky stuff. Luckily, I religiously label most of the tracks in my library by genre just in case I miss an opportunity to post about an artist I like. Fear of Tigers happened to be one of those artists that I rediscovered today. London based producer Benjamin Berry released the first Fear of Tigers album back in December of 2009 titled "Cossus Snufsigalonica", but you can still grab it for free by clicking HERE . [...]

Taken from a most uniquely placed LP entitled “Cossus Snufsigalonica” (which references to ‘something quite wonderful’ in the producers eyes..) UK’s Benjamin Berry aka Fear Of Tigers instils a cryptic and eighties like vision with emotional reach and funk. Simply a track for all those who are not afraid of tigers and man-eating animals! (Well, as long as they are all behind the zoo cage, like...) FEAR OF TIGERS – Study Hard Drugs School

(Ir)regardless of the first 31 years of my life down in humid Tampa, FL, I supposed after nearly 7 years in Capital City aka Columbus, Ohio it's time to finally call this town my home, eh? Eh, indeed. As sad and pathetic as it sounds for a music lover, my knowledge of the local scene is not as strong as I think it should be... Hanging around local pubs is just not the way I learn about music (or really what I do at all), I'm more of a "music finds me" kinda feller and I tend to [...]

Oh my. We have something special planned for Vancouver tomorrow. No More Strangers at the Cobalt plays host to Pierced Arrows a "legendary" act from Portland on Vice records... Pierced Arrows - The Doorway Pierced Arrows - Tripped Out Pierced Arrows - Paranoia "Formed out of the ashes of Dead Moon, who played a big part in shaping the sound of the Pacific North West during it's existence from 872-062. The band consists of [...]

Photography by Me! WHEEE! Okay kiddos, I'm not going to lie... This mixtape was built in a day. It was not curated over a week, it was only test driven once, but that's kinda the point. It's now, for me, now for you, and now for now. Most of these are Oh Teners, some are just Oh Teners To Me (09? 08? whatever). Either way, it's been a short, fast, & furious week of catching up & getting it going, and now, wrapping it up. So. With that in [...]

Photography by Me ! We got one more Sled Island report for ya! Our last full day in Calgary was filled with absolute laziness from a long and epic vacation, 2 days in Vancouver, 2 days on a train exploring western Canada, 2 days in Banff & Lake Louise, and now these few days venturing around checking out band after band, while still exploring Calgary (yay zoo & Recordland !) we were just done! We made it out for breakfast but instead of bands or the museum, it [...]
I've really been swept away by the indie rock opera by the band Hard Drugs (album review). Recently I had the opportunity to talk to the husband and wife team of Jeffry and Jenni from the band about the project and more. Check out our conversation:T.O. Snob: First off, thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us. The Hard Drugs concept LP is out now, what was the inspiration for
