The keyboardist from Harlem Shakes, Kendrik (aka Kendrik O) , has crafted a rather interesting project. In the span of two days, he covered the Yeah Yeah Yeahs entire debut album, Fever To Tell . It's sort of a lounge take on the songs and sort of weird. It's not the first time an artist has done something like this, but it's still a fascinating thing to listen to. Check out an MP3 of "Y Control" below or click here for the full thing. Also, after the jump is that video we posted a [...]

The Independent Corner has been eager to return to Eclectic Eavesdroppings but due to unforeseen levels of procrastination its return got delayed. It's back though, and along with it come the likes of the Harlem Shakes , Grizzly Bear [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. What a concept for a video. I'm really impressed by the creativity and originality. The second time around you watch it it's even cooler. A concept so simple, yet (correct me if I'm wrong) never really been done before. Badass. Also, Harlem Shakes' keyboardist, Kendrick Strauch, got his Karen O on and covered the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Y Control" from their critically acclaimed debut, Fever To Tell . The cover is simple, dreamy and smooth. Towards the end, Strauch's "Y Control" turns into [...]

harlem shakes-strictly game This is a new video from the album Technicolor Health. Is it really a slide show?
It took a little while - ok, it took forever! - but the organizers behind the grandest indie extravaganza in the land, aka the Monolith Music Festival , have finally completed the 2009 lineup. Monolith's third edition will again take place at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado from September 12-13 and feature quite the indie-centric line up we've all come to expect and enjoy. Saturday is highlighted by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Girl Talk, Of Montreal, M. Ward, The Walkmen, Frightened Rabbit, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, while Sunday offers The Mars Volta, [...]

Whew, it's summer and here in LA the June gloom has finally faded. Here's the soundtrack to my crazy ass season: 20. Metric - Monster Hospital (MSTRKRFT Remix) The only thing sexier than Emily Haines singing "hold my arms down, I've been bad" is her singing it in front of a danceable beat. 19. Casxio - Boiling Point Another one of my local favorites, Casxio [...]

Who know the boys from Harlem Shakes could predict how amazing this year has been for music. Indeed, 2009 has been "a better year", with incredible releases by Passion Pit, Phoenix, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, The Dodos, and the Shakes themselves. I've already professed my love for the boys from Brooklyn here and have Technicolor Health as one of the top 3 albums so far in 2009. Their uniquely catchy and upbeat sounds hold up against the heaviest of the blog-adored heavyweights. Check out the video (and song) for their newest single "Strictly Game" (my favorite [...]

It feels like it's flown by at the speed of light but we are already 189 days into 2009 and just passed the midway point. To commemorate this oh so epic achievement I thought I'd present you with a mid-year review to sum up what's been going down in '09. This is all fairly new to me as this little piece of web-space was only created in [...]
Top 10 Songs Wow, who knew picking 10 songs could be so difficult! There were a lot of classics in contention but these are my favorite ten in no particular order: Drake: Best I Ever Had [...]

Eager to get to the Harlem Shakes and Passion Pit show at the Paradise , I throw on a t-shirt, grab my ticket, and shove a Red Bull in my pocket. It's a rainy June evening—unseasonably cold—and the subway takes too long to arrive. When it does show, it takes me to a quick dinner, some drinks, and finally to the Paradise. Three hours later, the venue spits me out, a sweaty, energized, electric version of my previous self. Turns out the Red Bull was unnecessary. Ever [...]
Typically, fan videos tend to be just slideshows of photos backed by music from a song. Not too complicated and obviously enjoyable for fans. Well, the Harlem Shakes new video took that concept a step further...or maybe backwards. Their new video looks like a photo slideshow, but if you look closely it's actually live video of the band holding a pose. Of course, there's some slight movement such as an eyeblink, a light flashing, a passing bike or train or something else to let you know it's real. Best of all, they choose [...]
As you read this I'm probably lounging in Long Beach, NY with my BFF's. Got the fireworks, tambourines and drinks ready to go for when the night falls. Here are some vids from the past week + plus an oldide but a goodie. Enjoy! Have a wonderful 4th!! This is a mix I made of songs from this year that I like. Some of these songs you've probably heard, some you might not have. It should fit nicely on a CD and comes embedded with some awesomely patriotic album art (that's a real, non-photoshopped image by the way). Enjoy the mix and have a great ID4!
