Dead Social Club. Dead Social Club are six-piece electronic indie band formed in South London in 2009. There's certainly a vaugue hint of a less doom laden Depeche Mode in the vocal delivery combined with a dash of 802s post punk, yet they manage to make it sound fresh and vital with big chourus's that stay on the right side of epic without ever sounding over blown. Their latest single "Stockholm" (below) is available as a pay what you like free download ( just [...]
The jazz harmonica master plays live with his quartet.
[ download ] [tweetmeme] It's not a surprise to discover that Andrew McAllister, the main man behind the Los Angeles combo Vanish Valleys , is a film editor by vocation. Film editors make their living by taking raw film footage and picking and choosing what goes where – in many ways, the editor has as much say in the final form of a movie as the director does. McAllister brings his editor's eye to Vanish Valley, mixing elements from different genres into an organic whole. [...]
We met Krakatoa, or 3/5ths of them at least, at Waterloo station. We had been in London that morning filming another set of acoustic sessions with Buildings, they'll be released in the coming days. The weather that morning had left rather a lot to be desired, but by the time the afernoon came around the clouds had cleared and glorious sunshine was the order of the afternoon. We headed for a walk along Southbank, which was packed with tourists and street perfomers and sellers. One of whom, a man dressed as a giant subway, took a fair bit [...]

Sunday was the last day for the Ottawa Folk Festival . The weather changed from hot to cold due to the incoming of Hurricane Irene. Luckily it didn't hit Ottawa but gutted parts of the USA. Mostly it was cool and windy. People braved the weather and came out to the workshops that happened at the festival. The workshops I attended were: Intro to Harmonica Cigar Box Guitar [...]

Well Dano, the harmonicaist (is that a word?) is doing something new! He is now known as AKA Sugarlips and his new album Harmonican Idol covers some of the top pop songs. However, I wish that the songs were rearranged, it sounds a tad cheesy to put a harmonica melody over the original (or similar sounding) background tracks. I feel like it could have sounded [...]

Hailing from the still hype-worthy Oxford, Mississippi; Colour revolt delivers a stunningly touching performance with their first recorded release the Colour Revolt EP (2005 and re-released in 2006 by interscope records). Like a quick punch to the face, Colour Revolt makes sure that Blood in Your Mouth's gritty western-noir influences grab your attention. Jesse Coppenbager's vocal performance wax and wane throughout the whole track intermingled with solid bass and guitar along with heart wrenching harmonica. This track takes a step above and beyond your usual indie rock cup of tea and moves [...]
