Click here to view the embedded video. You've got plenty of good options for Columbus shows on Saturday night. Here's some facts about one of 'em: Ex- Beetkeeper / Burn Barrel frontman J.P. Olsen 's Malefactors of Great Wealth come back to Rumba backed again by a full band that's almost the Madison Square Gardeners , except Chris Morrissey (Ben Kweller, Andrew Bird, Mason Jennings) is on bass and Mark Stepro switches from bass to drums (as he often does). Olsen [...]
It's just not fair that there's this much to do on a Monday: ► Yelle make up the Thursday show the French dance-pop trio postponed (they were delayed by visa problems) by holding forth at the Wiltern tonight. ► Races celebrate the release of their "Big Broom" EP tonight, playing the support slot for Chain Gang of 19742s residency at the Echo, The night kicks off with O.C.'s Polaris at Noon. ► Didn't think the first week of Vanaprasta's was explosive enough? (You're in the minority.) [...]
Tops for your Wednesday: ► Tune-Yards , the vehicle for Merrill Garbus and her powerful voice, bring their beat-crazy experimental pop to the Music Box along with Cut Chemist . Garbus has come a long way since her January appearance at First Fridays at the Natural History Museum. She now performs fronting a four-piece; her album "w h o k i l l" has become a critical favorite; she recently made a cameo with the Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono band at the Iceland Airwaves Festival; and her video for [...]

Harper Blynn is no doubt an alternative rock band, but the Brooklyn quartet does a fine job of peeling away the narrow, rough connotation that often accompanies the label. Guitars roar and the drums are a driving force in their songs, but folk influences from their initial days as a duo consisting of Peter Harper and Jason Blynn have also crept into rock for their current sound with band members Sarab Singh and Whynot Jansveld. Their debut album "Loneliest Generation" — produced by David Kahne (Paul McCartney, the Strokes) — boasted four-part harmonies alongside hooks that balance the grit [...]
It's going to be impossible to claim that Beyoncé Knowles has "quietly" put together a vicious song catalog, stocked with everything from heart-wrenching ballads to shamelessly fun bangers , but she has done it without some of the fanfare associated with other pop stars. And, you know, the musical work is stellar; it makes a ton of sense that others have dove into reinterpreting her songs. Jumping off with yesterday's cover by The Horrors , here's the ten best indie rock covers of Beyoncé's sterling, still-growing catalog. Read More...
For a period of time between 2003 and 2006, the (then) Brooklyn-based The Damnwells felt more like a local band than a touring band. If my math is correct (I was a journalism major so math is not my strong suit), The Damnwells played 17-ish shows here during that time, more than many active Columbus bands. But it's been nearly 5 years since the last time they played here (Feb. 2007, opening for Blue October at the LC) and a LOT has changed. Singer Alex [...]

Fire up your media player of choice and share the first five random track of your shuffle in the comments. The Five: "She Talks to Angels" by The [...]

Via the living room: Harper Blynn is comprised of a half-Jewish state champion baseball player from Chicago named Pete Harper, a curly-haired choir boy from Philadelphia called J.Blynn, a first-generation Indian man from Long Island named Sarab Singh and a tall Dutchman by the name of Whynot - yes, that is his name. Infectious pop-rock, this band performs at high-voltage, rousing music fans with their sprightly harmonies and temperament. The rockers released their debut album, Loneliest Generation , in May of 2010, [...]

Every Impulse - Harper Blynn Every Impulse - Harper Blynn ( Free Download ) The self-titled album gives us another great set of simple and clean pop rock tunes that have an air of timeless musical sensibility. Their no-frills sound is effortless to enjoy, and the super catchy start-off song to the new collection "Models/Dancers" is perfect proof! Much of what you hear about this group is praise for their killer four-part harmonies, which are brilliantly showcased on "Start All Over." These guys also have a penchant for doing some great cover [...]

Gadzooks - that's right, medieval exclamations of surprise are the new what's next - this week is well and truly kicking my arse. Thank goodness, then, for Harper Blynn and the delightful, harmonious reverberations of their newest material. Okay, I admit I blasted some Ramones to clear the cobwebs too, but mostly the lads formerly known as Pete & J (& Sarab & Whynot...hence the name change I s'pose) have been easing me through an exceptionally busy period ahead of my [...]
Maybe it's just 'cause it's Friday. Something to put a spring in your step heading into the weekend. "Every Impulse" from New York's Pete Harper and J. Blynn is the perfect antidote to a gray fall day (or accompaniment to a sunny one), all bustling Badfinger-ish classic pop with a jangling rock edge and lifted from the band's recent, self-produced and self-titled EP. More on HB and their David Kahne-produced spring debut Loneliest Generation here . [...]

If you're reading this, chances are you're in New York this weekend. And if you are, CMJ 2010 has already kicked your ass enough that you're now totally fearful of sunlight and/or anything that smells like alcohol. So, really, the opportunity to sit in front of your computer and listen to a mix of the week's best new tracks takes on a new meaning this particular meaning. No longer must you feel left out... or that you have to your apartment for another toxic evening of CMJ. Please enjoy. NEW Singles: [...]

As always, below you'll find a mix of this week's best new singles, remixes, and covers (brought to you by Cover Me ) along with mp3s from some up and comers you just might want to check out. In all, there's over 40 songs [...]
A weird, rocking mashup that totes works.
--> Free session audio of "The Doubt" and "25 Years" <-- Last week, for the first time ever, we unlocked the audio from select BUZZsessions, making them available for download. The following videos, filmed with Brooklyn band, Harper Blynn , are some of my all-time favorites. Make sure to check out their cover of the Rolling Stones' "Loving Cup", which until now, had not been properly featured on the site. Harper Blynn , led by the guys formerly known as Pete and J , are just back from [...]
Cary Brothers' sophomore album "Under Control" has some gems on it — knowing his resumé, they're probably coming to a prime-time TV show near you — but no song quite like the über-ballad "Ghost Town." First-time director Kyle Eaton takes some of the concepts from the song and runs with them in the video, with mixed results. The Hotel Cafe-bred singer-songwriter is zipping back through L.A. on tour; Brothers remains one balladeer I'm a sucker for. ||| Live: Cary Brothers plays the Troubadour on Saturday night supported by Harper Blynn . On holidays this week, so apologies for the scarcity of posts. It's worth taking a second to note the swanky new video from our New York buds in Harper Blynn , however, which is taking the MTVu charts by storm. Harper Blynn | MTV Music Another catchy, melodic number and the title track from their splendid debut album, Loneliest Generation , these pages have thrown more or less [...]
