"She once said to me when we were up late one night, sharing a bottle of scotch: 'You ever wonder why I never wrote anything else?' And I said, 'Well, along with a million other people, yes'. "I espoused two or three ideas. I said maybe you didn't want to compete with yourself. She said, 'Bull ... Two reasons: one, I wouldn't go through the pressure and publicity I went through with To Kill A Mockingbird for any amount of money. Second, I have said what I wanted to say and I will not say it again'." - The [...]
Interesting take on Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, perhaps the finest American novel ever produced (certainly one of the five): Written by a woman, Harper Lee, but more, written by a woman who dared to see herself as her region's Jane Austen. Told by a six-year-old girl. With a hero who's not, in any traditional sense, manly. With a message of kindness and empathy generally associated with female values. And one more female value, once common in the heroes of Western movies, but less and less [...]

Image From Here Well, you can't call me on this one, because I did say, in a previous post, that I may throw in a personal post or two in-between other stuff.... The past few weeks have been ok since I have immersed myself in the music. But, even then, those past days have been a struggle. I sleep a lot and spend my waking hours on the computer. That is my life right now. And has been for quite awhile now. Docs are continually trying new meds on me and they have [...]

Mark Burgess sings "What kind of times are these, as they drive you to your knees" over the top of propulsive, beating guitars. A classic song of atmospheric proportions from one of my favorite albums of all time. mp3 A Person Isn't Safe Anywhere These Days The Chameleons - Script Of The Bridge A classic from 1970's After The Gold Rush ; from a man who has been rocking us for more than 30 years. No one can do it better than Mr. Young. [...]

Whenever I put together a mixtape these days I am probably violating the fundamentals behind what a real mixtape is. The mixtapes I create are just, more or less, a hodgepodge of tracks in no real order. Although, I do put together theme based mixtapes which is closer to the real thing. According to the Wiki resource - "A mixtape is a home-made compilation of songs (typically copyrighted music taken from other sources) recorded in a specific order, traditionally onto a compact audio cassette. The songs can be sequential, but a true, seamless [...]

I read about the new Harper Lee ep a number of places online. But if I weren't searching and connected I would have never heard it and that woulda been a shame. Matinee Records (the great indie pop/c87 label) claims it's the best release they've ever put out (and that's including catalog titles like Tender Trap, The Lucksmiths and The Math and Physics Club!). This ep and particularly the single "He Holds A Flame" is supposed to be a little more uptempo than previous works but the message of lost [...]
I've been trying to read the book Fluke--a present from my co-DJ Cameron--all this week, but have had little success. Lately music has been shoving literature into a little corner in my schedule. But you know, when the music is that of Harper Lee, it's not so bad. Plus, that's ...
