Harper Simon’s new LP is called ‘Division Street’ and for a minute I thought I’d spotted the primary influence in it’s naming. With receding braincells but a sprightly search engine technique I was soon to discover that Elliott Smith’s song was actually called ‘Division Day’, wherein the whole trust of this piece lost its mojo. Doesn’t take anything away from this number however, from an artist who has somehow escaped the eternal comparison to his famous father’s work. Perhaps this is because he has struck out on his own and each time alchemy has more or less ensued. ‘Bonnie Brae’ [...]

Harper Simon: Division Street - Music runs deep in the Simon family. Check out Harper Simon , son of music legend Paul Simon. His recent release, Division Street , came out March of 2013, marking his second solo album. His first album, Harper Simon , debuted in 2010. Why, you might ask, has it taken him so long to finally put out a couple solo albums? Maybe it has to do with his other professions of songwriter and producer. I mean, he has been doing this since 1996 and doing it well, I might [...]

The opening night of Harper Simon's free Monday night residency at the Satellite this month lacked nothing for variety and star quality. First, there was the headliner, the son of Paul Simon, doing songs off his forthcoming album "Division Street" (due March 26) and fronting an all-star band that included Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer Pete Thomas , the kind of fellow who carries his own gear in and out of a club in Silver Lake. There was a show-stealing outing from Jenny O. , playing songs from her debut "Automechanic." There were harmonies [...]

There are a lot of psych-pop revivalists these days who forget the "pop," instead settling for slight melodies buried in noodling and reverb. Harper Simon's new single "Bonnie Brae" is not that. The New York-bred, L.A.-based songwriter, moving away from the amiable Americana on his 2009 debut, engages in some sonic crate-digging on his new album "Division Street." Maybe he stumbled across some Rain Parade, or Three O'Clock, or Dukes of Stratosphear? Power up the jangle, full speed ahead. The 40-year-old songwriter's new album, out March 26, was produced by Tom Rothrock (Elliott Smith, Beck, et al) and [...]

Eager to create his own identity, Harper Simon (the son of one half of Simon and Garfunkel) has lucratively lured us in with his new single "Bonnie Brae."
With a twinkle here, a twinkle there, fairy dust and editorial reverb everywhere, we have the man with a backwards name returning for his latest single " Bonnie Brae ." Harper Simon (the man with the backwards name) jingles his way through the track, giving us an insight into the follow up work from his critically acclaimed debut (critically acclaimed is used a little too frequently these days for my liking). Listening back to the previous, self titled record you can safely hear pretty much, exactly [...]

The offspring of musicians don't always possess the talent of their parents but Harper Simon 's (son of Paul) debut album was pretty decent. This first track from his follow-up 'Division Street' (out in March) is quite possibly his best track to date. Grab 'Bonnie Brae' below.
