Joe writes: Thanks to MrBedosey for drawing my attention to this track via a comment on my YouTube channel . Like Nongqongqo (To Those We Love) , it's from the album An Evening With Belafonte/Makeba, but this version was is from a 1966 Swedish TV show and is followed by a moving interview and another track.
Among the 62 albums I acquired in 2011 , many were old albums I'm only now catching up on. Some stuck with me better than others. Here are my (unranked) favorite new-to-me albums of the year. Harmonia: Musik von Harmonia and Cluster: Zuckerzeit 2011 was kind of a Clustery year for me. I acquired Zuckerzeit as well as an earlier Kluster album (terrible), two solo albums from Hans Joachim Roedelius (both not bad), and Harmonia's debut (Harmonia is Cluster + Neu's Michael Rother). Of them all, Musik von [...]

While most of the people around the world are currently experiencing some mad cold weather, I was having some drinks at Moomba (aka that beach bar in Aruba which actually has something to do with the genre Moombahton being named just that). By now you would have probably figured that it's always summer on Aruba so we locals get to go to the beach as many times as we want. Since I can't bring the beach to you, here's a selection of some of the biggest global bass bangers currently out there to keep you hot and sweaty during the [...]

First is a very bright number by Codes. This is one only one of the first times he's ventured into the genre but you wouldn't know by [...]

Fidel & Castro got sent back to Guantanamo Bay. I will be your guide to the world of Moombahton. Picture an anxious Dave Nada just about to step behind the decks of a lil cuzz's basement house party in the suburbs of summer DC. It's a school day, but the kids are out and a handful of brews have them wasted as fuck wildin' out to dead reggaeton beats. But Dave, 1 half of Nadastrom, plays house. A genre opposite in the bpm spectrum, with a whole different groove and attitude. [...]

Hello party people, I hope you're all doing well. The seasons have started changing here in Miami, which really means it's not hot as fuck all the time any more. With the changing of the weather also comes my changing of age; this week I celebrate my birthday and my friends at The Vagabond / (((SHAKE))) were awesome enough to let me throw a shindig in their back patio area! Sharing the line up with me are my drum and bass family Methodus , AlphaXero , Sopheye and Disidente [...]

Joe writes: My friend Jamie Catto got to know Harry Belafonte recently which caused me to listen to him properly for the first time. I may be stating the obvious here but he is great. In particular I have been listening to the Calypso album which includes Banana Boat Song and Jamaica Farewell (AKA Kingston Town). The voice and the melodies are obviously both amazing, and the sparse arrangements sound eerily modern at times. His life outside music has been inspiring too . Jason Derulo uses a line from Banana Boat Song in [...]
