Checking with at the Blue Walrus today I read a post about a Norwegian band called Harrys Gym . Instantly, I was drawn into their track 'Attic', making me think of a wild mix of Secret Machines , Land Of Talk , Yeah Yeah Yeahs . Possibly not-yet-known on this side of the pond, the bands eerie blend of psychedelic pop smeered in atmosphere and blissed out melodies will no doubt be something that we can all fall for. Check it out. Attic - Radio Edit by [...]

There must be something in those frozen fjords as we see some more Scandinavian dreamers cross our paths with Norway's Harrys Gym ( MySpace ). They may not be new to some from that part of the world (apparently they used to be in a hippy/blues band called Dharma years ago), but this time they should be making their mark over here with their self-titled debut dropping on 17th May. You could describe them as almost electric/indie shoe gaze, but the vocals of Anne-Lise Frokedal offer a broken, haunting depth that others can only allude to, [...]

[Released on Hype City ] Words: Gareth O'Malley The golden rule of making music: If you are going to try being ambitious, try your absolute hardest. Norwegian quartet Harrys Gym have undoubtedly heard this at some point in their career. It would have been wise if they had taken some advice. Unfortunately, though, the stubborn Scandinavians have gone about things their own distinctive way - with decidedly mixed results. While its opening trio (the wonderfully woozy 'Top of the Hill'; 'Brother', which finds the band doing their best Mew [...]

Harrys Gym is a Norwegian band that recently sent us their video for 'Top of the Hill' one of the tracks from their upcoming self titled album to be released May 3rd . Within 5 seconds I could tell they are special. Absolutely gorgeous stuff! The music transports you like only the best stuff can. The lead singer's voice is angelic! They describe their sound as 'an eerie blend of psychedelic pop smeered in atmosphere and blissed out melodies.' That about sums [...]

One from the Norwegian electronic disco crew is coming to Uppsala, Sweden tonight, his name is diskJokke . Can't really tell how you can hear that the music is made in Norway, but they have a special sound in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Could it be all the salmon they are eating from the fjords? Anyway, diskJokke makes music in the same field as Lindstrøm, Prins Thomas and Röyksopp. It's high quality all the way, from the production to the music of course. He released his first full-length album "Staying In" in 2007 but have [...]
AUDIOVISUALS / NEW MUSIC: Harrys Gym - Top Of The Hill —— Both the Guardian and Q have tipped Norway's Harrys Gym as an exciting new act - which they are - but they both failed to mention the similarity to Blonde Redhead circa- '23' . If you enjoyed that record, this song will be so instantly satisfying for you.
This video isn't new at all as it came out at the very beginning of this year, but Harrys Gym has made quite a resurgence in my life lately. "Attic" has been popping up a lot, and so has the amazing "The Escape." When I was in Norway in February, the band mentioned to me that they were working on a second disc - if anyone has news on this, please keep me posted. This is a group that is poised to do big things, as the NME and Drowned in Sound have been [...]

Hiawata! is one of the Norwegian bands I have high hopes for in 2009. I am finally starting to be proud of the pop-music from my own country, and I can thank among others the bands who feature on this free release from the SellOut! Music label for that. 'These boys and this band is all i know' is the title of Hiawata!'s upcoming album, and after having the chance to pre-listen to an early version of the album, I can tell you it is filled with melodic pop-gems. Great music! Now the band and [...]
A beautiful video for a beautiful song from the Norwegian band Harry's Gym . Here is their new video for the song "Top of the hill", one of my favourites from their self-titled 2008-debut. I love this!

Today I'll present some bands from my own country, Norway , - all of them favourites of mine: MARIBEL, HARRY'S GYM and SALLY SUICIDE . I will not say much about them, - just let the music speak for itself. Photo by Veronica Blomquist I'll start with Sally Suicide , a shoegazy, 60s-inspired dreampop-orchestra (or something like that) with musical connections to The Lionheart Brothers. Sally Suicide - Black Pop (from NRK Urört) [...]

There are 3 things that make this and the MySpace group worthwhile and of course you have to listen to my drivel on the subject. Most bloggers will agree with me I would hope. 1) Finding the music, which has been the goal here since last November. 2) Having people message us saying that they love and bought music from the artist we've featured. This was only happening a little in the beginning but since the blog started, it is happening daily. I'm not exaggerating at all. 3) The actual artists thanking us for posting them on [...]
