As you can see above - yes, that's me with my hands to the sky, dancing sidestage in full-on last-day-of-the-festival mode - this year's annual excursion into the folkfields was a grand success. So good, in fact, that I'm writing this on the porch, reluctant to come inside lest the residual joy of the previous 11 days leech off in the presence of real toilets and showers, refrigerated food, and electric lighting. But in the end, it was also a study in contrast, with Grey Fox bigger than ever, and [...]

So this is it, the first FensePost Podcast. A few weeks ago I sat down and compiled a mix of various songs; some new, some old, most finding some relation to garage rock or garage pop. Hence the title, From The Garage . The theme is loose, so some bands fit and some don't. There are sixteen songs total here, stemming from local Seattle and Portland acts on across the world. New Zealand, Sweden, Canada... you get the picture. Enough banter - listen to the FenseCast already. [...]

2009 is a tough year to judge. I've checked out more albums this year than any year in the past. Well over 1,000. And there have been quite a few great ones as well. When this list began, it had 110 albums. I abandoned my top 33 and 1/3 for 45, and then said "screw it" and upped the number to an even 50. These are the top notch albums of the year, all worthy of praise. Despite trouble all around, 2009 wasn't all that bad. [...]
![The Hartmans [Feature]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2111592_lg.jpg)
The Hartmans have a history of creating garage pop that spans the genre from the jangle-ridden acoustic to the unbearably distorted-noise focused. ...Sjunger Tre Ballader Om Dåliga Män is of the former style. The Hartmans give us three joyous tracks, two in their native tongue and one in English. The Swedish group has been busy of late and they remain one of the better pop groups around willing to give us their singles and albums gratis. I could give Sjunger a proper review, but there's just too much more going on [...]

We're now half way through 2009, so I figured it was about time to collect a few favorites from the year thus far. I've put together 10 must-hear albums from the first half of 2009. To alleviate any bias, and because I'm totally obsessed with this style of categorization, I'm putting them alphabetically. A few albums are missing from this list and deserve bonus recognition. I've chosen five artists I find absolutely amazing to list as honorable mentions. Why? In some cases, I haven't had the chance to [...]
![The Hartmans: Första Brevet Till Amerika [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1613859_lg.jpg)
Their motto is clear: We release records when we feel like it. If anyone likes to listen, we're glad. If no one listens, we'll keep doing it anyway. It's a great attitude and likely one held by terrible bands and great bands worldwide. Luckily for The Hartmans ( MySpace ), they lean toward greatness. Första Brevet Till Amerika is their latest release and can be found stateside on Series II Records. (They've been pumping out LPs and EPs since their inception in 2004.) Filled [...]
