I was born in late August and attended schools in South Florida, which meant two things. One, I was doomed from the beginning, considering the public school systems there are garbage. And two, I was always going to celebrate my birthday on the first day of school, which kind of sucked because nobody ever remembered it and everyone was too busy to even bring cupcakes into class. Now, I wouldn't have cared so much if not for the fact that everyone else in the class - from kindergarten to third grade, really - had special afternoons dedicated to [...]

Today, Pretty Much Amazing reintroduced the simple pleasure of pop-punk with this cover. You're cringing; I can feel it. I don't blame you. The genre has been misrepresented for years, as PMA points out, by bands that flush out all the punk with overly polished pop sweetness. But there's a simple pleasure to some of those songs that you've probably already forgotten. Beast Make Bomb reminds us of that with this cover of "Flagpole Sitta" by 90s pop-punk band Harvey Danger. Check it out and travel back to a time when you secretly liked Simple Plan and American [...]
Flagpole Sitta - Harvey Danger Mighty times, blogaruu readers. Competition. Christmas. Santa. Baby. Jingles. All that horse gibber. Slightly earlier than originally planned but I forgot how dodge posting things is this time of year. Better if the winner gets it ... Continue reading
Yeah we're a little behind. Anyway, in light of this trailer I saw last night, which brought me way way back...thought I'd supply you with some 902s alt-rock a la American Pie the original (remember when the music we listened to involved real instruments?). Harvey Danger - "Flagpole Sitta" The Toadies - "Possum Kingdom" Blink 182 - "Dumpweed" Green Day - "Brain Stew" [...]
From the mid-90's to the mid-00's, I recorded ALOT of music related footage on VHS tapes. Apparently, I had a lot of free time on my hands. For the last few months now, I've been going through those tapes to see what I did record back in those days but also, looking to see what was worth [...]

Austin quartet White Denim will release D, their fifth studio album on May 24. That same night, they'll play San Diego's Casbah, and it'll be worth your while to check it out. The experimental indie band has been compared to the Minutemen and Randy Newman (yes, both), and is known for infusing anything from punk [...] Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

The late Harvey Danger recorded this great Christmas track back in 1998 and then re-released it on an EP under their own label Phonographic Records in December 2004. Eventually the EP went out of print, but you can now find the single on Dead Sea Scrolls, the album previously only available on the band's final tour. Just follow the link to their website below to download their final album for free, including this holiday track. Also, check out the noteworthy video if you get a few. It's nicely directed and well worth [...]
Longtime MAGNET fave Harvey Danger called it quits last year with a brief farewell tour, and while we were really sad to see them go, the Seattle band has just released a posthumous final single. "The Show Must Not Go On" was written for the final tour and recorded just after it, but it was only [...]
Earlier this year, we featured Computer Magic, and are glad to do so again. Her EP, Hiding Out From Our Time, is not only free, but it's an amazing collective of keyboard and sampling filled bliss-pop songs - an EP that is completely DIY brilliance. All of the songs are so good that picking a [...] Related posts:Bands To Watch: Computer Magic, Stockholm, Gift Horse, The Powder Kegs, Hunter Valentine 'Twas The Night Before Christmas' Set to Music: An Experimental, Free Form Mix Ears to the Music, Vol. X: Hurricane Bells, Here We Go Magic, Royal Bangs, Scanners, [...]

On May 28, 2009, Seattle's HARVEY DANGER announced that "After 15 years, three albums, hundreds of shows, and far more twists and turns than we ever imagined possible, we've decided to put Harvey Danger to rest. The decision is totally mutual and utterly amicable." Harvey Danger played eight farewell shows last August, the last three of them in Seattle. The band closed with the last song it wrote, "The Show Must Not Go On," recorded with John Goodmanson shortly thereafter, then mixed and mastered just in time for the first anniversary of [...]
Moving past the goodbye memo that Harvey Danger posted on their MySpace a year ago, those of us who did care beyond "Flagpole Sitta" have often wondered what became of the new song our little college rock band cooked up for their farewell tour . Wonder no more, ladies and gents! Courtesy of John Goodmanson, who produced all three of Danger's LPs, and Harvey Danger itself, we bring you "The Show Must Not Go On" - in studio! This year will mark the 10th anniversary of sophomore slumping effort King James Version [...]

No band was more unfairly saddled with the tag "one-hit wonder" than Harvey Danger , whose catalog of whip-smart indie rock (three albums and handful of excellent EPs) never escaped the shadow cast by 1998's "Flagpole Sitta." After 15 years, Sean Nelson and crew called it quits in August 2009, but they've left a little something to remember them by: a posthumous single "The Show Must Not Go On," which was written for their farewell tour. "You can your bash your head against a wall / for years / The wall is not impressed ..." Indeed. [...]

Sadly, 90s Seattle rock band Harvey Danger played their final show in August of last year in their hometown at the Crocodile Cafe. And yet, that hasn't stopped them from releasing music. 'The Show Must Not Go On' is a posthumous final single the band wrote for their farewell tour and only recently recorded for [...]
