A 21-year-old producer from Newport Beach, California is churning out authentic 1980s post-disco tracks using vintage synthesizers. This track from Rain Sword is clearly a tribute to the electro beats that would push break dancers to do their thing on the street corner. I love the combination of analog synths with modern production techniques. It provides for more clarity of sound than we could have hoped for in the early days of 80s electro from artists like The System or Hashim . [...]
ELECTRO CLASSIC - This is what Hip-Hop sounded like before crack happened.
Kicking off with one of my all time favourite tracks Hashim ’s ‘Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)’ from 1983. Often imitated, never bested. Such an influence. Wish Key ’s ‘Orient Express’ also from 1983. Italo, ElectroPop, Euro gold. From 1981, Depeche Mode ’s ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’. The track that started it all. No matter how many adverts you’ve heard it in the original is still awesome. [...]

This is part three in Salacious Sound's The History of Electro. To recap what we've covered so far head on over to Part I: The Death of Disco and the Rise of Kraftwerk and Part II: Electro Gave DJs Their First Grammy! Following Kraftwerk's rocketing rise to fame in 1981, little uncertainty about the influence of electronic music in the domain of global pop culture remained. But the synth-driven acoustics of Computer World only tell half of the story of electro's early development. After [...]

This time I'm gonna take you on a trip to the old school where it all began and when electro music still was for the few and cool. I found a track way back from 1983, made by the, at that time only 16 years old, DJ/Producer Hashim (real name Jerry Calliste Jr.). The track is mixed in 3 versions and the first was "The Soul", which came in at Billboard Dance Disco Chart at place 43. Here you get all 3 versions. Hashim, Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) [...]

The 1-year anniversary of FINGERBANGER FRIDAYS wants to first give a shout out to anyone that knows Ridell Boots, Laser Plates, Wicked Lip Wheels or Chuck Laufer. Second, you're all wondering who's that baby faced kid sporting the maroon and gold from Skateland in 1990?? See that Wisco? Yo... now you know all my secrets... So I'ma bring you the straight heat from my mixtapes circa pre-puberty style-master-general jams. Diggers dig. Like the seven dwarves on a seven day a week grind (7×7=49, thats how you get shit done). First you hear the heat, then you [...]
Who remembers simpler times, when "electro" was a brand of hip-hip infused electronic-funk (if I've lost you, think Kraftwerk meets Frankie Smith meets Melle Mel ). All that together produced a brilliant and cutting edge sound unique sound that helped define the late 1980s. Of course today's "electro" is a different animal. The nature of language is to be lazy and things get truncated—so most of what ends up on this blog tagged as "electro" is more accurately "electro house", hard "synthpop", so-called "electroclash" (a term that's always had a messy ambiguity [...]
