Contributed by Chris Gedos "Last Memories" by Welsh band The Revolutionary Spirit is a demo of big ideas. They're a new band that's also a mature band, both in demeanor and the development of their sound. I would expect nothing less from a band called The Revolutionary Spirit. Move the drums to the middle and you've got yourself gold. The Revolutionary Spirit - Last Memories The Revolutionary Spirit [...]

These mixes were posted in January and February 2010, the winter of our discontent. Seriously, the blog was on life support during this time. We're through that storm now. 2010 was such a great year for music, and these early mixes show why. Many of the tracks were available in late 2009, but appeared on 2010 releases. Tracks are from late October through late November 2009 Gapless mix ripped at 256k VBR. Download all tracks in one zip file [...]

Tweet It wasn't too long ago when I sang the praises of a young band that went by the name of Hatcham Social. They wrote incredible pop songs that brought to mind the best of the Postcard/Kitchenware Records era of the late seventies/early eighties with their jangly sound. Their 2009 debut You Dig The Tunnel, I'll Hide The Soil was a thing of beauty that I still play consistently. It really is that good. One can imagine the smile wrapped around my head when I discovered the band [...]

Tweet Hi! Hey! We're the Mystery Jets! You know? English indie kids with tons of hooks and strong singles? We're signed to Rough Trade... We're kinda like a big deal...? Well, maybe not, but we do have a new single out and it's the title track to our latest record that you most likely never bought or ever heard about called Serotonin . The song will make you hum and the video we did for it features us and a bunch of our friends looking silly and enjoying life. You're going [...]
Tweet No. I did not watch the Grammys. I did, however, check out a new band from Portland, Oregon who were gracious enough to establish contact with me. They are called The Sexual Outlaws and with a name like that, I simply had to give them a listen. According to lead singer Charles Myers, the band got their name from a book written by John Rechy which spoke the oppression of homosexuality in Los Angeles. Adds a bit of intrigue to the music, doesn't it? Speaking of the music, the [...]

Dans la case « Influences » du MySpace d'Harlem on peut lire : the only band we like is nirvana. the only album we like is nevermind. the only song we like is smells like teen spirit La classe nan ? J'ai vu Harlem à la Maroquinerie le mois dernier mais j'en ai pas trop parlé parce que j'essayais d'effacer de ma mémoire le concert très moyen d' Hatcham Social (et celui caca des pas jojos [...]
If there was ever a hall of fame for criminally underrated and hopelessly slept-on bands and artists, The Mystery Jets would most definitely make my first ballot. Their charming yet hopelessly British brand of pop is exactly what you want in...pop! Brash, funny, a bit off-kilter and enthusiastic. Yet for all their charms, the band generally finds themselves inheriting somewhat disappointing chart positions on the UK singles charts and can't get arrested here in the States. They and fellow bad luck merchants Hatcham Social should tour. Only the true hipsters would show up en masse for that one. [...]

(click image to enlarge) Above we see Brooklyn quartet Cause Co-Motion having a slumber party. Cause Co-Motion! play sub-garage fuzz pop songs, rarely hitting the two minute mark. Last year Slumberland Records released It's Time: Singles and EPs 2005-2008 compiling 14 singles previously released by Cape Shok, What's Your Rupture?>, and Can't Cope. This year Cause [...]

Hosted by the returning Good Shoes , the Hope & Future Festival promises top-quality new acts and East London alternativa in one delicious four-day swoop. Held from Wednesday 20 - Saturday 23 January in Dalston/De Beauvoir's Stag's Head , a pub and regular gig venue, the mini-fest will offer gigs each evening for the adults, plus Wednesday, Thursday and Friday matinee shows at 4.30pm for those aged 14 and above. How very civilized, eh? The line-up looks excellent and admirably London-focused. Along with Good Shoes, there's the energetic electro brouhaha of Is Tropical, Othello Woolf's louche folk/soul melancholy , Wild [...]

Filed under: Video , Exclusive In Hatcham Social 's new video, 'Sidewalk,' the British band sticks to a classic performance clip, while frontman Toby Kidd scribbles messages on a dry erase board about getting away from it all. "I wanted it to represent the thought process of someone planning an escape," Kidd tells Spinner. The video -- shot with one camera in a single take, according to Kidd -- was filmed for a single from the band's debut full-length album, 'You Dig the Tunnel, I'll Hide the Soil,' [...]

I used to be big on music like this back when I was kicking out at the world. I was never allowed a haircut to match though. Far too edgy. But theres a certain charm to Hatcham Social which make them more than just teenage nostalgia - possibly the fact they sound like they are a mixture of the smiths, the libertines and the NMe'S next fad. MP3: Hatcham Social - Hypnotise Terrible Eyes [...]
