Following up Hauschka groundbreaking Salon Des Amateurs release, comes this great collection of electronically-angled remixes commissioned from a selection of highly respected producers. This is the season for layers. Layers of clothes, layers of quilts on your bed. It's cold outside, but the sun is starting to warm up the earth. I thought I'd dedicate this Sunday Night Chill to that feeling, and somehow managed to find five songs that capture what it means to be both cold and warm at the same time. Enjoy the layered instrumentals and synths as you wrap yourself up in tonight's blanket of electronica. Image credit: Wineglass Bay by Cat1788 [...]
![[MEGA Playlist] 60+ Instrumental Tracks You Need to Listen to](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4741497_lg.jpg)
Everyone loves lyrics. Whether they're light-hearted and playful, soul-gripping and gut-wrenching, or abstract and avant garde, we all love to sing along, relate certain verses to our personal lives, or just be taken away by another person's story. On the other hand, hearing a great instrumental track is an entirely different experience. Without having words to identify with, your brain is free to let the music create an image in your mind. The interpretation is more so up to you than if you had someone defining it with their own words. Having this blank canvas allows your mind [...]

You've already had the opportunity to peruse Statik 's extensive 'Bass Music Awards' but that's not quite the end of our "Best of 20123 series. Featured below is the second edition of my top 25 downtempo and left-field remixes. As with last year's edition, this list focusses on the best remixes in 'left-field', 'experimental', or chillout electronica. I spent a great deal of time crafting this list and ranking the tracks accordingly. I [...]

Hauschka | Radar from Jeff Desom Teilen
In the Jeff Desom-directed video for "Radar," dancer Patrick Williams aka TwoFace is a pop-locking puppet hooked to the wires of Hauschka’s piano. It's fascinating to watch, especially when TwoFace sprouts a bunch of extra ... read more
Director Eric Epstein was nominated for a Grammy for his debut video, last year's stunning clip for Memory Tapes "Yes I Know", and he again mixes clever visual effects and a gripping narrative in this promo for post-classical artists, Hilary Hahn and Hauschka. The video focuses on a mysterious box, which we see being fiddled with by a female technician and then used in some sort-of human scientific experiment. Finally, the instrument's purpose is revealed in an uplifting, heartfelt ending.
It's Friday, and we're back with another installment of our regular roundup of downloadable MP3 goodness from around the web. This week, there's a new Cat Power track (yay!), a new/old John Maus track (YAY!), a taste the new album from Purity Ring (definite yay!), more Clams Casinos instrumentals, another Peaking Lights mixtape, and a shitload of other tracks that definitely warrant various connotations of the word "yay." In other words, there's plenty of interesting sounds awaiting you after the jump, and since they won’t cost a penny or land you an RIAA lawsuit, as your attorneys we advise you [...]
