Just as I was preparing to leave my apartment yesterday afternoon to catch the Mets game at the sports bar, the call-box starting buzzing. That's when I remembered my roommate had called the plumber earlier in the day. Although I had no idea what he should be looking for, I buzzed him in anyway and met him at the top of the stairs. A young Hispanic man carrying a flashlight was followed closely by a middle-aged Caucasian man, who perhaps played Luigi to the Hispanic guy's Mario. Either way, it wasn't until I led them into the apartment that I [...]

I`m really going to miss my Tuesday night fix of Life On Mars , the hugely popular BBC crime drama set in 1973. If you didn`t see it , I can only presume you`re a resident of one of our closest planets & cannot receive terrestrial TV. A fantastic mix of 70`s music , dodgy fashion & comic one-liners ... You shall be missed Sam Tyler & Gene Hunt !! There will not be a third series but i`ve heard Philip Glenister (DCI Hunt) has been approached to star in a sequel set in [...]

Various Artists, Greasy Truckers Party (??? 1972) Double live LP capturing a London benefit concert from 1972 (check out this review at Head Heritage for a ton more detail than I could manage) featuring Man, Brinsley Schwartz, Magic Michael (?) and last but definitely not least, two monolithic space jams by Hawkwind. For some semi-bootleg soundboard shit from the '70s this has really great fidelity (although, my copy has a skip/pop through the beginning of the second track ... sorry). Hawkwind - "Master of the Universe" [...]
So, it's a new year, and we've pledged to keep things interesting for all of you who like to visit frequently (but mainly for me). We're trying to come up with new features that may happen more than once (or regularly, as some might say). This may be one of those—the idea being that, on the traditional "day of rest," the day that everyday is like, the day that's...um...here again, in tidy attire, will be the day to post songs that wouldn't necessarily be posted, and group them together in useless, arbitrary categories. Sounds like fun to me. [...]

Flap your wings and cock-a-doodle-doo with joy! This week's Contrast Podcast is out today and the theme is "Chickens and Other Birds." Prepare yourself for a veritable flock of aural, avian delights. And there's not a genetically modified, battery hen of a track in sight - it's all free-range, corn-fed tuneage with plumeage. Enough of my twittering. Fly on in to this wondrous dovecote, where KD Lang, The Cramps, Sufjan, and Bobby Darin all share a perch. You can do so directly here , or else you can sbscribe using this RSS (chicken)feed: [...]
Hawkwind: "Lord of Light" The world needs more Hawkwind , plain and simple. In most circles, those outside of the older record collector, Mojo-reading crowd, the band has got a bad reputation...or not much of a reputation at all. To many, Hawkwind is some corny new age band that old people listen to. Rather than name drop Hawkwind, a music critic will go to the typical stable of artists when reviewing an album with tones of early '70s rock. If it's a spacey, pscyche album Pink Floyd/Syd Barret will get mentioned. If [...]
