"Madstock for us is musically, socially and geographically our homecoming. There is no other day like it, for us, our families and for the people that come to see us." - Suggs As previously announced, on Friday 17th July, 2009 in London's Victoria Park, Madness bring Madstock to the East End for the first time this century. The band are pleased to announce the first details of the supporting cast for this very special day in the East End. Joining them will be THE POGUES and MAN LIKE ME [...]
Queen was my first musical love and, re-listening to these tunes for this post, I remember why. Few dispute Freddie Mercury's position as one of the greatest frontmen of all time, but Brian May's absurd guitar playing and Roger Taylor's rock-solid drumming helped propel these tunes to another dimension. As a kid I never went beyond the greatest hits, and I never needed to. They're that good. So here are some of said hits, done different. Electric Six - Radio Ga Ga The Detroit six-piece behind [...]

Words by Cara Bermingham See these or throw your eyes in the bin! Music documentaries, RockDocs whatever you like to call them, are quite possibly the best combination of genres ever. Better than mint choc chip even. Not only do you get a great soundtrack, but more often then not the film ends up telling a rather dark and interesting tale often involving addiction, stress, ego, power struggles and general mania which as we all know is compelling viewing. The ten films below (in no particular order) are films that really should [...]

Okay, I'm a liar. I know I said I wouldn't do a Christmas/Holidaze post when I reviewed what is now my favorite Christmas album of the year . (If you go to that review , you'll find a few nuggets that aren't in this post.) But I was already a liar when I posted The Raveonette's new Xmas track . So in the spirit of lying, I decided to do some detective work and make a big ol' Holiday post for y'all. Call me a sell-out, call me what you [...]
For many bands, rocking you hard isn't enough. They feel the need to tell you how hard they're rocking you. So as a tribute to the many groups too insecure to let the music speak for itself…let there be rock. Ludwig Van 88 - We Will Rock You (Queen) I don't when Ludwig plans on rocking me, but until then I'll settle for being pleasantly reggaeed. [ Buy ] Patti Smith - So You Want to Be (A Rock'n'Roll Star) [...]
Imagine if you will a movie devoid of a soundtrack. Or a child who has forgotten how to laugh. While certainly adequate without, we can agree that both these scenarios are missing something. They... music. ideas. opinions.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap Australian album cover AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" has taken up literally hours of my life. It's strange for a single - the breathing sounds on beats 2 and 4, rare singing by Malcolm Young, ridiculous lyrics about being a contract killer. When I tracked down covers of the song, I discovered that AC/DC tribute records are a huge cottage industry. (See here for an exhaustingly exhaustive list.) I have not included every cover of "Dirty [...]
Since I already discussed one cover tune today, I thought there would no harm in firing up another. This one came to me on XM Radio's X Country the other day on my way to work. The bluegrass ACDC cover set to the original music video is entertaining. Included a live track as well. Hayseed Dixie - You Shook Me All Night Long (Live)

I spent a decent-sized chunk of my pre-adolescence at the local Boys' Club, which is odd considering how much I loathed the place. I lay that paradox at the feet of peer pressure from my friends and the irresistible force generated by the mother of all childhood horrors, the cluelessly proactive parent. "It will be good for you," they say as they pack you into the family sedan or set a slab of cooked liver in front of you, and no amount of whining or passive-aggressive manipulation can save you from your assigned date with destiny. Also, the club was [...]

This has always been one of MJ's favorite songs. The Rolling Stones released Wild Horses in 1971 on their album Sticky Fingers . Mick and Keith wrote the song together, but the song's Wiki tells us that it is also said it was "originally written by Richards in response to having to leave his then-infant son Marlon to go on tour with the band. Although it is said Jagger re-wrote most of this song to reflect the end of his relationship with Marianne Faithfull, [...]

Havok . Cyclops is the leader of the X-Men, and his personality is as myopic (and interesting) as his moniker. His younger brother, on the other hand, is a mess. While all [...]
