It is Psych Fest Day Three. I have empty memory cards and I am well-rested. My brain is no longer trying to swell out of its cage. What's to do? Well, there is a little band I call Thee Oh Sees . Again, not a true fit for Psych, but who cares? They are going to put down jams. I was also excited to see the return of Dead Confederate . Can they catch the magic of their first release? [...]

So, I am not going to SXSW this year, but if I was here is a selection of mp3s from bands I would want to see. I was able to whittle down the list to 40 songs. No easy task. Listen. Downloadables: Mossy (mp3) by Aa Raindrops in the River (mp3) by Autumn Owls And It Goes (mp3) by Bad Sports Big Weapons Anthem (mp3) by [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours Listening to Headdress is quite the trippy experience. Mixing ambient sounds, soft acoustic guitars and heavy, droning melodies, the Texas duo weaves a musical journey that transcends genres and labels. Ahead of the band's SXSW appearance, Spinner recently spoke with guitarist Caleb Coy about the band's formation, the creation of their latest psychedelic masterpiece, 'Lunes,' and what 2010 holds for Headdress. Describe Headdress's sound in your own words. Communing with the divine. [...]

With the release of Amazing Baby 's debut record Rewild today, it's only fitting that we'd give you an opportunity to truly appreciate these dudes for what they are: a band that's full of heart, promise, trust and zero restraint when it comes to making strides at taking over the pop world. That's all wrapped up in the above video, an acoustic take of the Rewild track "Headdress", shot inside the band's hometown haunt, Heather's bar in New York City. Enjoy the video and break free from the confines of domesticity with Rewild , [...]
It seems that the shamanic desert wanderers known as Headdress have left the barren wastelands and entered the streets of the city. With this transition the band have dropped a bit of their Brightblack Morning lightness and delved into darker areas of blues drone. The high plains still hang over the sound of Lunes but it's a strangely urban high plain; full of street lit canyons and brick dusted caverns. They've begun to cut ground through Wooden Shjips and Blues Control territory but swapping one's heaviness for the others tempos. All the while the dank threat of drone [...]
Tonight, get your ass over to Union Pool for the third in the trifecta of crustcake-approved Swedish proto-metal conjurers: Dead Man. The other two in said trifecta are, of course, Witchcraft and Graveyard (the drummer of the latter first tipped us off about Dead Man back in March of '08). Dead Man are decidedly less heavy than their Scandinavian Brethren, but there's a certain charm to them
Seriously, let's go back to having parties in the woods.
You might remember me raving about Amazing Baby's demo a few weeks back, and my favorite song out of the four on the demo is easily "Head Dress", which Amazing Baby performed probably about a half a dozen times last week at CMJ. Well, here's the video from one of those performances at the Annex. Thanks to Stereogum and Sup Magazine for the video.

Brooklyn is burning up (sorry for the Jonas Brothers reference guys) these days with all sorts of psychedelic-leaning musical acts, all taking the sounds of the 60s and 70s even further over the Technicolor edge. Amazing Baby , the duo of Will Roan & Simon O'Connor, are one such act, mixing the wild and free with the freaked out and paranoid. Well, they sound like all of those things. This we're sure of. "Head Dress", off of this year's EP Infinite Fucking Cross , is a sprawled out on the floor electric guitar ramble, [...]

One of the better surprises I've gotten in the mail lately was this record by Headdress, a beautifully handmade album out on Totem Songs . The album occupies a hazy brand of desert night blues caked in clay and baked by the setting sun. These are lonesome moon odes to desperate spaces; murky dreams full of easy venom and soft elixirs. Occupying the slim window where Brightblack Morning Light stop and Wooden Wand begins, the band carry themselves like troubadours of the last caravan West. A perfect accompaniment for whisky at 4 a.m. when the wind stills. The soft [...]
