I know we're awfully late on this, but anyway we'd like to at least mention briefly that whatever you might be up to these days, you definitely shouldn't miss the latest full-length by Florida duo Hear Hums . These folks have constantly enchanted these pages their unique approach towards contemporary weirdo pop with their blend of shamanic, vocal-centered mystique and thriving rhythmic spectacle. This is convoluted, sprawling, and at times rather bulky, but all in the best way possible - it's hard to find something more playful and explorative today. Opens is available now [...]

Opens by Hear Hums Our Tiny Waves bff Ralph Giunta recently directed the humble b&w video for Hear Hums ' "Growing", off of their forthcoming album Opens . Treated to 16mm film the optic journey 'opens' in Orlando's Dandelion Communitea Cafe surrounded by friends. As our eyes begin to adopt Ralph's vision he witnesses a prescribed physical environment similar to most urban areas, and more specifically, a society that has embraced a notion of the installated organic in our material landscape. Providing the positive, his presentation of spending [...]

I just found this colorful video through our friend Levek who's been championing fellow Gainesvillians Hear Hums for a while now. The organically ambient and lovely "Shrines" is a new one from their upcoming third album Opens . Their last album, Psyche Cycles came out on our friend Jheri's cassette label Crash Symbols . Check out the video after the jump, and head over to Bandcamp to spelunk their back catalogue.

Beautiful, lulling new song by Hear Hums, a band I previously profiled after hearing their "what the hell" song "Woo" back in December of '10. "Shrines" is the first single (and second track) off Hear Hums' forthcoming third album, Opens , which should be out by the end of the calendar year. Let's cross our fingers for hearing more tribal weirdness (in a good way) as soon as possible. Oh, and you can download their second album, Psyche Cycles , for free at their Bandcamp . [...]

The Gainesville, Florida experimental/visual dyad, Hear Hums , embarked on a three week long tour in support of their latest release, Psyche Cycles , leading them to their very first gig in Toronto. Their debut performance was preceded by a heap of young T.O. talent: Blood Rexdale & The Walls Are Blonde , Heartbeat Hotel , and the choice Rebel artist Foxes in Fiction . Charlie Hoppner , Alex Wagstaff, and Chris North tackled Studio 561 from several angles before coupling their footage together to afford [...]

From one side of the Animal Collective coin of influence - yesterday's "world"-y World Map - to the other, with the glitchy experimental pop noise of Hear Hums. Hear Hums are a two-piece from Gainesville, Florida, and consider themselves an experimental and visual band. It's pretty easy to see why this would work, Hear Hums music is driving, complex, kaleidoscopic soundscapes that brings forth visions of colourful and swirling shapes even without the actual visual accompaniment. Bubbling electronic sounds, crashing cymbals, clicking rims and rickety snares, woo-and-ahh-ing vocals, and often bending or looping guitar strums all [...]

Spring has supposedly sprung as of March 20th, but I'm not feeling it quite yet. It snowed pretty hard here on Monday; frankly, it's high time Mother Nature got her act together. Until she does, I've made a special mix to help shake off those lingering winter blues. This mix is made up of songs I've wanted to post about for a while, and a few I've talked about already but can't get enough of. There were only two rules I followed while making it: 1. Keep it fresh, and 2. No mopey acoustic blues. Have a taste [...]

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are just a few of the songs that would get there own individual posts on here on GIMME TINNITUS, if I only had the time. This time it's not just remixes. Listen. Downloadables: Minajah (mp3) by True Womanhood (part of the REEL TOO REEL project) Go Ahead ( Snoretex [...]

Since their rise to fame with albums like Strawberry Jam and Merriweather Post Pavilion, Animal Collective has had a lot of copycats following in their paw tracks. However, it was only a matter of time before one of 'em started doing a pretty good job. When it comes to psychedelic swirls of sound, odd rhythms, and never-ending loops, the band Hear Hums seem to have have it all down. Dig on a track from their new album, Psyche Circles , below. You can stream the whole LP on [...]

Prepare to trip out. Florida's Hear Hums 's music can best be described as experimental pop with extremely unique compositions, warped out instrumental effects, and various vocal styles. This is the band's music video for two tracks off of their latest album Psyche Cycles (free download) called "Cerebellum" and "Woo" (released on Crash Symbols ). You won't find any found footage here. This music video was shot and edited by the band, which is very rare to find nowadays.

"Beggars in a New Land" just released an EP with the cassette rookies Crash Symbols. I'd never heard of Beggars, but the Get Off The Coast connection was enough to peak my interest. Teething is Crash Symbol's third release to date, and they've started out almost outrageously strong. (In case you missed it, Crash Symbols opened shop with a bang in November with an incredible compilation. Check out links to the compilation and another one of their releases below) Beggars aren't afraid to classify themselves as Chillwave, and neither will I. Compared to their peers though, Beggars sounds [...]

Bay Area art-rockers SUNBEAM RD have recently released a couple of very impressive tracks on their official bandcamp page . These new tunes are filled with highly dreamy harmonies, off-kilter guitar lines and a soothing atmosphere not unlike their usual material. But I'm sensing a more structured SUNBEAM than before and I like what I hear. You can catch SUNBEAM RD at SF's Cafe Du Nord on January 20th and at The Hub in Sacramento on the 22nd. Mitch from Hear Hums was kind enough to send over some music I've been sitting on for a few days due to the holiday season. The DIY duo come from Gainesville Florida and perform an incredible brand on experimental music. The following self-produced video and track come from the band's second album Psyche Cycles on Crash Cymbals which can be streamed here . Also featured on the band's bandcamp page is their first effort and a live radio performance on WMNF 88.5 in Tampa FL. [...]
[Bear with me for this oddly structured post.] What the hell is going on in this song? Hear Hums - "Woo" [MP3] I don't know. But I like it. Accompanying video below (first half of the video is Hear Hums' song "Cerebellum", second half is "Woo"). Knox Road goes psych-o this Monday. Click here to view the embedded video. Hear Hums, out of Gainesville, Florida, is duo Mitch and Kenzie. Their second album, Psyche Cycles [...]
