Download: Hearts of Palm UK - "People and Logistics" While I've never been a fan of the suffix "UK" on a band's name (especially when the band isn't even from the UK) I've gotta admit to being impressed by Hearts of Palm UK . Mixing the pleasant, open sweetness of Camera Obscura or the Hermit Crabs with mellow electronica, HOPUK strikes at twee-pop for the digital age. Their debut For Life is due out on Hypnote October 14th, but you can check out "People and Logistics" above and [...]

Somewhere along the way and without anyone hipping me to the fact, Hearts of Palm became the go-to vegetable of indie rock band names. Denver has their own Hearts of Palm that recently released a free, four-song EP, but that's not who we're here to talk about today. No, we're discussing Hearts of Palm UK , Los Angeles' electro-pop, multi-instrument trio. HoP UK, incidentally, are not British and apparently refuse to give any explanation of the mysterious suffix. Oh well. For our purposes, Hearts of Palm UK bear a striking resemblance to the Hot Toddies, [...]

Song Hearts of Palm UK ~ " People and Logistics " MP3 download I have no idea where the UK in Hearts of Palm UK comes from, but it is intriguing for an all female trio that are based out of Los Angeles... "People and Logistics" is on HOPUK's upcoming release, For Life , which is due out Oct. 14th. Video Clinic ~ " Tomorrow " [...]

Despite the tremendous heat and humidity, last night was a *great* evening. Not only was it lovely spending time with close friends, we also had the fortune of running into other friends randomly. We were especially excited to have the opportunity to check out Coventry's latest addition, Bodega (thanks to Terry Travis ), where we captured an image of their immaculate bar above. The vibe and atmosphere was very sleek and hip, while the sounds of a jazz band gave way to a dj spinning r&b and hip hop grooves. [...]
Tracy Shedd is releasing Cigarettes & Smoke Machines this fall. Her latest album of smart, pointed pop is a direct and economic assertion backed by sharp musicianship and just the right amount of reverb. Cigarettes & Smoke Machines features guest appearances by John Girgus, Brian Espinosa, Richard Dudley, James Tritten, Craig Schumacher and Joey Burns and is produced by Craig Schumacher. The album will be released by Teenbeat Records on September 23rd. Tracy Shedd: Website : MySpace [...]
Bored. Figured I at least post some songs I've been listening to and what's been flooding my inbox. Sam Champion - Be Mine Everyone Hearts of Palm UK - People and Logistics Tracy Shedd - Whatever It Takes Ed Laurie - Albert You Me & Iowa - Dress The Stage
It helps when you have an electric (or at least one that is prone to non-fatal electrocution) front woman, makes the job of selling the rest of the band a good deal easier. The fact that all 3 of your band are attractive on the eye is also a plus, and when you combine this with a natural tendency to record songs that could have appeared in the eighties you almost have a license to print money.

So Brian Eno partied after hours with Tegan and Sara in a late eighties musical electronics store and then wrote a song about it. Ok, not really, but "People and Logistics" is how it might sound if he had. It's a relationship song about a couple in states of distance, echoed in the distant but warm music. The harmonizing voices themselves cold yet emotionally imbued. Hearts of Palm UK are Erica Elektra (vocals, keyboard, guitar), Frankie Rose (glockenspiel, keyboard, percussion) and Billy Kaye (cello, autoharp, keyboard). Despite the name, the trio are from [...]

This was the first time I had been to Club Spaceland, located in the Silver Lake district of metro L.A., officially in Hollywood. What I like about it is that it is small. What I don't like about it is the poor ventilation and the blue lighting back-lit with yellow. That just doesn't make for great photos because the shutter speed on my camera slows way down when there is no white light, resulting in too many blurry pictures. Luckily, with a 2 Gig card in the camera, I never run out of "film," so I [...]
Hearts of Palm UK is totally excited about Super Tuesday! You know, the primaries and stuff? Never heard about it? Well, check out the song and you'll be the most politically up-to-date hipster around. To commemorate Hearts of Palm has written a song about it. Pretty cute... Lyrically it's rather current... did you ladies write [...]

Is a rose more beautiful than an orchid or a lily? No, they are each beautiful in their own way and for their own qualities. The same is true of these three acts. Although they have female vocals in common, each has a different musical flavor. Palomar In July Mars Needs Guitars posted some bands that can be found on eMusic. Palomar was one of those, and time has proven his judgement [...]

Echo Park, CA I have one word to describe this electro-pop duo - adorable. Hearts Of Palm UK is highly recommended for fans of other chicky groups like Au Revoir Simone. "Portugal 1" Hearts Of Palm UK on MySpace Hearts Of Palm UK on The Hype Machine

Hearts of Palm UK is an American electro-pop duo from California, and we're told NOT to ask about the "UK" in their name... I'm getting curious, but I won't ask. Most blogs who have written about them, including this one, makes a point about the UK-thing, so it certainly gets them some attention. The two girls in Hearts of Palm UK have mysterious names like Erica Elektra (vocals, keyboard, guitar) and Ambi-D (glockenspiel, guitar, keyboard, percussion). The two met at Junior High, and have been friends ever since. In 2006 they started creating [...]
I have no idea how the Hearts of Palm UK can sound like they do live. I Flow is an amazing studio song, but it is even better live. If I didn't know the song was live, I would never have guessed it! I Flow is heavy on synth, with lots of instruments. Being a percussionist, I tend to hate the indie bells, but I can get over it. I would really love to see this performed; it would be interesting to see this being performed. Hearts of Palm UK in general have a popie electro sound, so they are [...]

Honestly... could you say no to a pair of lovely, innocent girls like the ones pictured above if they'd ask you to promote their music? Yeah, thought so... neither could I! And of course the songs they've sent me helped as well. So here are Hearts Of Palm U.K. ! The two girls go by the names of Erica Elektra and Ambi D. ... I'll leave it up to you to decide if they're their real names or not. They sure sound pretty cool, don't they? And so does the [...]
Can't even begin to tell you how excited we are for the coming week. Not only are there amazing lineups all around Los Angeles (including our little show 5/23), but the last two weeks in May are generally the best weeks of the year for us. The hipster calendar is leaning toward Silverlake this weekend beginning tonight with Eskimohunter, Mezzanine Owls, and LoveLikeFire at El Cid; The Autumns

[One in an occasional series covering artists playing around Los Angeles:] Hearts of Palm U.K . aren't from the U.K. at all, of course, and singer-keyboardist-guitarist Erica Elektra guards the the story behind the "U.K." in their name like a state secret. It's no secret what Echo Park-based Elektra and band mate Ambi-D are doing -- twee pop with honeyed vocals, tart lyrics and twitchy beats. It might remind you of the likes of Talulah Gosh , Lali Puna [...]

Before I'd even listened to British songwriter, Sam Duckworth's music I was wary of the guy thanks to his nom de plume, Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly. And the funny thing is, it wasn't even because he took on that moniker for the dorkiest of reasons ( "Get Cape, Wear Cape Fly" was an instructional article in a British Computer Game magazine's solution on how defeat the Batman Computer Game). It's more the fact that as far as I'm concerned there is only one man in a cape. No, not Superman. Not Batman. I'm talking about the Larry David, Frank [...]
