A fitting end to a great ride...thanks to Nathan, Stephen and the rest of the crew for a great few years of music! Hey guys, remember that time my blog hit the third birthday mark and I didn't notice? Last week marked three years of Fuel/Friends' existence, and in those thousand-plus days we have had a lot of fun. As I say continually and every year around this time, I am humbled that you stop by to see what I am listening to or reading or exploring, and it has been my distinct pleasure to unearth some sonic gems for your enrichment and mine. In keeping with tradition, here are twenty songs from Year 3 that have been high [...]

I return from the warm and open arms of the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase this weekend with an invigorated and genuine excitement about the music that is being made in this fine state. I heard some incredible stuff. Even if you live nowhere near Denver, take a listen to what my weekend was like because there are acts that I feel could be nationally noteworthy right now out of the Denver scene. The festival was a screaming success on the sweltering hot streets. Even after going to about a jillion large-scale [...]
[Hearts of Palm @ Westword showcase - 6.14.08] I first heard of Hearts of Palm minutes before seeing them at the Westword music showcase about a month in half ago. The eight piece Denver power pop collective brandishes orchestral rock flourishes and is quickly making a name for themselves locally. Formerly known as Nathan & Steven, the band smartly changed their name for practical purposes, bookers and promoters were constantly blindsided when eight people marched into venues rather than the two Nathan and Steven fellows expected. Hearts of Palm satisfy with big choral [...]
Yup, that's a lot of people in one band. Call them Denver's own Polyphonic Spree (minus the cult-tastic fashion robes), the warm and sparkly effervescence of Hearts of Palm is a bright spot in our city's musical landscape. Previously named Nathan & Stephen , the 8-piece band decided to change their name earlier this year to more accurately reflect their gigantic size (not a two-piece!) and as a salute to their favorite vegetable (I might have made that up). They've recently self-released a lovely free 4-song [...]

'08's Music to Love More Than Music: Love More, Pt. 11
Love More (<3) Neva Dinova - You May Already Be Dreaming Certainly on the country side of the indie rock continent, but the thing is that when country is done right, it is done right . There is so much soul on this record that I'm afraid my computer may be a little more haunted that it was previously. Neva Dinova - Supercomputer Neva Dinova [...]

Snobcast: For Fans Of Monolith Music Festival
Behind This Month's Snobcast: The time is approaching for the greatest music festival in the Southwest region. Yeah that's right, Monolith returns to Red Rocks Sept. 13th & 14th. Monolith is the biggest festival to take place at what has been called the "Best Live Music Venue in North America" (Pollstar). Monolith features 60+ bands on 5 stages over 2 days. For year number two the festival has amped-up in every way. Better hip-hop (Del tha Funky Homosapien, The Hood Internet, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip), better electronica (Justice headlines Sunday), better dance music (The [...]
