Goin' Old School isn't a trip down music memory lane, it's a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark kick us off today with 1980's 'Messages', don't they look young! One of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite bands. 'Crackdown ' from Cabaret Voltaire in 1983. Not out favourite Heaven 17 song, but easily their best known is 1982's 'Temptation', You can buy most [...]

A few days ago Perseus premiered this brand new laid-back tune from Chicago's Rogue Vogue on his latest mix for Triple J Radio in Australia. This track contains a sample of Heaven 172s song "Let Me Go" and sounds really good. You can now download it for free. Go! Download here
I think I only really like one of the songs in tonight's post. But what can I say? I'm a man of the people. And I'm certain that some people out there really want songs, so I'm happy to oblige. Are there any people out there who want to oblige me? ...wait, that sounded dirty. Let me start over. I'm working on a few articles at the moment, and I'm looking for some people to interview. Do you like video games? Do you like vinyl? Do you like video game soundtracks on [...]

In case you missed this yesterday, let the wonderful Jamie Jones brighten your morning with this re-edit of Penthouses And Pavements by '80s synth band Heaven 17. You probably remember them from their stone-cold classic track Temptation, but this is a tune as well. Check the re-edit then reacquaint yourself with the original via the music video. Oh yeh and did we mention the Jamie Jones version is free to download ? Jamie Jones Vs Heaven 17 - Penthouses Re Rub [...]

Heaven 17 are an English synthpop band originating from Sheffield in the early 1980s. The trio comprises Martyn Ware (keyboards), Ian Craig Marsh (keyboards) (both previously with The Human League) and Glenn Gregory (vocals). The Luxury Gap is the second album by Heaven 17. It is their biggest selling album, peaking at number 4 in the UK charts and was certified Platinum (300,000 copies sold) by the BPI in 1984. Read more »
It's 1981, The Human League seem to have split up, your world is in tatters, then this happens. Heaven 17 put a little funk in your synth life with 'Penthouse And Pavement'. Buy Heaven 17's music from: Follow @electronicrumor
SirBilly is a long time fave here at SIART. He remixes almost exclusively '80s music, often by some relatively obscure acts. I have enjoyed pretty much everything he has ever sent to me. I was very happy to hear from him again, especially considering the song he has remixed is Heaven 17's Let Me Go. It is a stone cold classic tune - a tight groove and some deliciously rubbery wubba-wubba synths
British SynthPop legends Heaven 17 have announced a two day special event at the Roundhouse in Camden, London on 14th-15th October 2011. Day one will see the band following on from their 'Penthouse and Pavement 30th Anniversary Tour' (which was awesome!) and performing their 1983 album 'The Luxury Gap' in it's entirety including the singles 'Let Me Go', 'Temptation', 'Come Live With Me', and 'Crushed By The Wheels of Industry'. Day two will consist of the first ever live performance by Martyn Ware's British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.) featuring tracks form 'Music Of Quality & [...]

feeling a little bit excited today. might be because i am in the middle of a two (2) day week.. or maybe its because the songs im about to post are really f'ing good. hmm.. first up is a slice of hot disco fire from pete herbert and the awesome reverso 68 . sampling eartha kitt 's '84 classic ' where is my man ', this edit captures the glamourous life of 80's disco.. strings, throbbing basslines and kitt's distinctive vocals kicking in toward the end of the track. love when they do that: [...]
The subdued form of electronic-pop that NYC-based Silk Flowers pursue is a glittery cross between industrial ambience and chillwave. Behind their simplistic leads of bass-synth and keyboards, the trio presents interesting pieces of percussive-laden samples that range in feel from chaos to Shangri-la. More often than not, the song's backgrounds mimic the sounds of a [...]

Almost 50,000 revellers converged on the Isle of Wight last weekend for the 7th Bestival. With arguably its strongest line up ever, an eclectic mix of music (and weather) and a reasonably hedonistic crowd, Bestival 2010 was a huge success. The problems of poor sound quality on the main stage experienced in 2009 was dealt with by a newly located main stage, the results being of the highest order, even from the back of the viewing area. The last couple of years had led to complaints from regulars that as Bestival had got bigger it had lost its original charm. [...]
Disclaimer: anything I can or will say may be used against me in a court of law as I have a secret penchant for Synth Pop. I blame this largely on Information Society, the local act that went BANG! back when with "I Want To Know (What You're Thinking)". A Christmas 1990 gift, I had [...]
