2012 will be forever remembered as the year of the gun. Violence is escalating, tempers are flaring and not matter what side of the aisle you stand on, you have to agree something needs to be done. As a resident of Colorado, we have seen firsthand from Columbine to the Aurora movie shootings that our society is declining. Our moral compass is lost and we need to cling to our faith, love or whatever you put your stock in and hold your family/friends tight. Colorado also benefited from two of the biggest things to hit our area [...]

From the quick drum pickups on "Toasted" to the lo-fi recording of of the single, I struggle to sit still and focus on nothing else but bobbing my head from left to right with multiple fist pumps. I can only be talking about Heavy Cream, of course. The track clocks in at a little over two minutes just like you would expect any good rock track with gutter tendencies. "Toast" is a split 73 release with the Coathangers via Suicide Squeeze. Heavy Cream - Toasted [mp3]
A massive dose of Nashville is rolling through the City this Friday night, as Those Darlins are playing a gig at Rickshaw Stop with fellow Music City, USA natives Heavy Cream . L.A.'s Pangea is also joining the fray for what should be an evening of raucous rock 'n' roll framed by snarling guitars, furiously bashed snares and cymbals, and haunting vocals that climb to screeching heights when the time is right. And guess what? We've got tickets. Yessir – [...]

New Pornographers' A.C. Newman performs at Crocodile on Friday photo by Jeremy Farmer With November gently rolling in there's no excuse not to go out and see some live music in Seattle. The week starts slowly with a couple local shows and just builds from there. Tilly and the Wall are at Neumos on Monday night, and Those Darlins', Heavy Cream, and The Mad Caps are at Sunset Tavern on Tuesday night. On Wednesday night there's a few interesting choices including Grand Hallway, Alice in the River, and Owl Pussycat at the Triple Door, Zammuto at Barboza, [...]
Photo by Veta & TheoThe name Those Darlins may conjure up visions of sweet girls strumming out their feelings on an acoustic guitar, and the Nashville band are all of these things -- just swap the

photos by Devan Council Those Darlins at Glasslands, 10/26/2012 In contrast to Those Darlins last NYC show with Best Coast at Terminal 5 , the band's appearance at the intimate Glasslands on Friday (10/26) was downright cozy. The show, pictured in this post, was part of a string of dates with Heavy Cream that will wrap up mid-November. Remaining dates [...]

Live music picks for MONDAY OCTOBER 29 through SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3, 2012. MONDAY OCTOBER 29 / MILO GREENE / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 368 QUEEN W / $16.90 / 19+ Milo Greene isn't one specific individual - in fact, it's an indie folk quintet out of Los Angeles. At first listen, you may dismiss them as having a similar sound to bands like Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Of Monsters and Men . And while this may be true, in no [...]

Heavy Cream – the Nashville-based outfit whose debut LP Super Treatment was produced by Ty Segall and released on Infinity Cat Recordings , the label run by Jake and Jamin Orrall of JEFF The Brotherhood – dropped a new split 7-inch single with Atlanta quartet The Coathangers on Suicide Squeeze Records yesterday. Their contribution "Toasted" is two minutes of sludgy, fuzzy fury and recently premiered on Nylon . Check it out: The split 7-inch is limited to a run [...]
Atlanta, Georgia's favorite raucous daughters, The Coathangers , return with the second installment in their series of four split 73s on Suicide Squeeze Records. This time, The Coathangers' effortless amalgam of garage rock righteousness, riot grrrl bad-ass-ness, and post-punk jaggedness is paired up with the propulsive proto-punk of their former tourmates in Nashville's Heavy Cream . With the first of The Coathangers' split singles on Suicide Squeeze now out of print (the highly coveted pairing with Puerto Rican party rockers Davilla 666), it's not hard to imagine the 750 copies of this 73 (250 opaque red, [...]

I've backed the ladies in the Coathangers for some time, and as their star continues to rise, the group only seems to get better and better. Suicide Squeeze just announced today that they'll be releasing a new split 73 with the band and label mates, Heavy Cream . This is my first listen, and it's as bratty and catchy as I remember the group from when they came into Austin just a short bit ago. Really stoked to see what these ladies can [...]

With 2012 over halfway over, this seems like as good a time as any to start getting things together for the inevitable “year end” list. So let’s keep it simple: Here are ten awesome and overlooked trashy, garage rocky, power poppy, grungy, grimy, slimy, noisy releases that I haven’t already talked about in this column this year. 1) Spacin’ - Deep Thuds [Richie/TestosterTunes] Over in Philadelphia, critical attention has rightfully been focused on Kurt Vile and The War on [...]

Can't miss Nashville up-and-comer garage punk lasses (and lad) hit the mark. The ladies (and gentleman) in Nashville's Heavy Cream have, with Super Treatment, provided us with Example Number 12,774 (rough estimate) of the enduring majesty of the half-hour long, scuzzy garage punk record. Co-produced by Ty Segall, and released by Infinity Cat - a man and a label who know a thing or three about this gloriously unhinged strain of rock 'n' roll -- Super Treatment wears its influences on its (tattered) sleeves and even telegraphs...
