Riding the first wave of DJs that emerged from Diplo's Hollerboard site in the mid 2000s, Pete Emes and Mike Grimes, aka SMALLTOWN DJs have played shows across the globe. The Calgarian duo have yet another single, this time on No Brainer Records collaborating with WILLY JOY . To be expected, but far from predictable, the single is heavy on the low end, featuring remixes from Mixhell, Ardalan, and MarceauxMarceaux. More importantly, though Pete Emes and Mike Grimes [...]

GOMWAB Towers is in a state of disrepair due to an impending international move, but the news of Heavy D's death a few days ago managed to fight its way through the information super highway. In what is another blow to hip hoppers worldwide, Heavy - a.k.a. Dwight Arrington Myers - sadly passed away in Los Angeles on Tuesday at the young age of 44. The man behind a string of chart hits and critically acclaimed joints has kept a relatively low profile over the last decade, musically speaking, but was working on a [...]

Chris Daly co-wrote the "In Living Color" theme song. The Overweight Lover has left the house. The Jamaican born, money earnin' Mount Vernon-raised, Dwight Arrington Myers, passed away earlier this week on November 8th, 2011, apparently due to "respiratory distress." While he may not have been regularly heralded as one of the all-time greats of hip-hop's golden era, he certainly was a player nonetheless. Initially riding the wave of big boy love, Heavy would go onto to become one of the lead names in rap's questionable new [...]
New Jack Swing icon Heavy D has passed away. Many are called, but the chosen are few.
Dwight Arrington Myers, also known as Heavy D, has died at the age of 44. TMZ reports that he was brought to an LA hospital today after collapsing in his home. The actor, rapper, record producer, and singer was well known as the former leader of Heavy D & the Boyz. The group gained fame [...]

Rapper Heavy D - AKA Dwight Arrington Myers - was taken to hospital this afternoon, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Police and paramedics responded to a 911 call at 11:45am this morning that originated from his home in Beverly Hills. An 'unconscious male' was reported to have been found on the walkway to the house, but when the paramedics arrived Heavy was said to be awake and responding. Heavy D & The Boyz - Girls They Love Me RIP Heavy D.

When hip hop fans of the 30-plus age bracket (and many of their younger counterparts, for that matter) recount the greatest hip hop tunes of all time, it's pretty safe to say that Pete Rock & CL Smooth's 'They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)' is always somewhere near the top of the list. The combination of an absolute monster of a beat from Pete and CL's poignant lyrics certainly struck a chord with many hip hop fans. But 'T.R.O.Y.' is more than just a classic song - it's one of the greatest tribute records ever recorded. The [...]

After the rousing success of last week's OSM (according to me anyway), I decided to keep the tape-fueled fun going with a part 2. To recap, last week I found a mix tape I made who knows when, that was entitled "Classics 88-903, and so I decided to post the first five songs on the tape. This week? We flip the tape to side B, post another 5 songs, and the posting magic continues. The first song on side two of a good mix tape is tricky business, you've got to find a [...]
In lieu of posting the latest video installment Ray Benzino Vs. Crooked I (Youtube beef = type ghey), I figured sharing some Hip-Hop would be a better move. Heavy's flow always sound right @ home alongside the horns from the J.B.'s "Pass The Peas" . While we're here and in a reminiscing mood, let us count a few things that once were cool in 1987, as evidenced by this clip. 1. Andre Harrell & that Uptown Records' stamp meaning something. 2. [...]

That "with Friends" that they throw on this was a huge understatement. Yes, Heav Bum diddly-diddly-diddly-diddly-di ddly Dee & Pete were genuine friends with these artists so getting them all together for this song probably wasn't hard. But when you have heavyweights like Kool G. Rap, Grand Puba, CL Smooth, Q-Tip and Big Daddy Kane all on one track, it's a wonder the reels didn't pop. Throw this in your archives. Oh yeah, Puba FTW! Lyrical ambidexterity. Q-Tip probably have the best quotable with "if I [...]

Album: Peaceful Journey (Uptown/ MCA; 1991) Songwriters: Kenny Gamble, Heavy D & The Boyz and Leon Huff R&B Peak Position: #5 "Now that we found love/ What are we gonna do...with i-i-i-t" Snuggled in between the powerful social and political commentary that made The O'Jays ' 1973 album Ship Ahoy a magnum opus of not only Philly soul and R&B, but rock & roll in general, album cut "Now That We Found Love" might not have garnered as much attention as it's LP [...]
