Well, it's been almost a week since we found out the legendary Heavy D had passed away, and it certainly hasn't gotten any easier to stomach. I still have no idea what caused Heavy's death, and it doesn't seem like there is much consensus out there other than some information about Heav suffering from some respiratory illness before his death. But I suppose there's no point now in dwelling on the cause of his death, it's best to try and reflect on Heav's life and career. I'm sure there are many [...]

Rest in Peace Heavy D. Heavy D & The Boyz - Nuttin' But Love (Cookin' Soul Remix) Cookin' Soul ( Official ) ( Twitter ) Rating 8.2
Dwight Myers, aka Heavy D, passed away today. He was the frontman of popular 90s rap group Heavy D & the Boys as well as a successful solo artist. He was a respected member of the hip-hop community, mentioned by the likes of Biggie Smalls in 'Juicy'. His Jamaican roots shine through in his tracks - to me, his songs are about letting go, kicking back, and enjoying life. He never stooped to objectifying women or 'hood' material that we are so unfortunately flooded with now, he always had a positive message to send to his audience and [...]

The funny thing is that nobody is really missing the NBA except for the economic impact on restaurants around US arenas. Have fun playing overseas, guys. Chris Daly co-wrote the "In Living Color" theme song. The Overweight Lover has left the house. The Jamaican born, money earnin' Mount Vernon-raised, Dwight Arrington Myers, passed away earlier this week on November 8th, 2011, apparently due to "respiratory distress." While he may not have been regularly heralded as one of the all-time greats of hip-hop's golden era, he certainly was a player nonetheless. Initially riding the wave of big boy love, Heavy would go onto to become one of the lead names in rap's questionable new [...]

This is a rough one. Hearing today that Heavy D passed away hit home, and the only thing I can compare it to is Guru's passing . I've done a number of these R.I.P. OSM posts for various people related to hip hop, but when it's a central figure from a period in hip hop that's near and dear to your heart, it makes a mark. And when it's a guy like the Heavster, who was pretty much universally loved, it's that much more painful. I actually had another OSM lined up [...]
