Deadmau5 is making headlines again. He just uploaded an excellent, clean original mix, "Aural Psynapse," along with a live mashup of his own tracks "October" and "Raise Your Weapon." The latter should really start at the 0:12 mark, btw. It takes about a minute to really get going, and it's got a lot of those high pitched synth blips that are so seemingly ubiquitous in house tracks, but it's Deadmau5 , right? He and Skrillex can get away with anything. Deadmau5 - Aural Psynapse by [...]

With her long red dreadlocks wrapped high up on her head, my hippy neighbor from across the street stops by for a visit. "Who's that?" she asks as soon as she walks through the door and hears the excellent blues-rock pumping from my speakers. She notices the tunes before I let her in because I have the volume up pretty high. I'm surprised I hear her knock. "Where are they from? I could totally hear them on the radio." "I know. Right? They're called Heavy Glow ," I tell her after turning the groovy-ass song [...]
Heavy Glow - All My Money

There's hard heavy blues that's jam-based, with dark and murky exploration into psychedelia, and then there's tight, fast-paced blues. We got both of them today. One is like Led Zeppelin 1, the other is like "In Through the Out Door." And I love 'em both, for different reasons. Let's start with the more accessible of the two. Heavy Glow 's latest collection of three-to-five minute singles (and every song on the album could be a single) features blues hooks, great vocals, raw production, and choruses like: "You want all my money/I want all [...]

Electronic distortion - to reproduce or amplify (a signal) inaccurately by changing the frequencies or unequally changing the delay or amplitude of the components of the output wave. (The "Filth.") Audio feedback - when a sound loop exists between an audio input and an audio output. The frequency of the resulting sound is determined by resonance frequencies in the microphone, amplifier, and loudspeaker, the acoustics of the room, the directional pick-up and emission patterns of the microphone and loudspeaker, and the distance between them. (The "Fury") Add the two together and you have The Filth [...]

photo: Dana Sangillo Heavy Glow is into fuzzy, psychedelic heavy rock. The San Diego trio are currently working on a full length. Their current EP is entitled The Filth & The Fury which may sound as throwback to the early Seventies rwak sound at first. Singer Jared Mullins has the rough voice that is associated with that era and his guitar playing was obviously inspired by it. Drummer Dan Kurtz has a basic approach, with a few tricks thrown in to [...]
Here's the weekly look at stuff I couldn't properly feature: WHOOP-Szo, What I Dream Is Where I Live Dream pop can be a very difficult genre to master. Go too far in one direction and you lose the 'dreamy' element of the music; go too far the other way and you cure any narcoleptics in your audience. Guelph's WHOOP-Szo has struck a pretty good balance on their latest EP. Tracks like "

Before you can begin to enjoy Heavy Glow 's "The Filth and the Fury," you have to forgive them for swiping the name from the Sex Pistols. You have to, because they are absolutely nothing like the Pistols. Heavy Glow are a blues trio with blazing guitar, energetic drums, and rough(ish) vocals. Are they like The White Stripes? A little. But their music is tighter, better organized. Are they like Black Keys? A little, but the vocals are much better and they focus on extended 1970s-style guitar solos. Their well-produced EP features modern blues like "Red July" [...]
