A little behind on this one, but Art Fag just released Heavy Hawaii 's Super Bowl XXIX 73-the band picks up where they left off with their tasty shoe-wop melodies. The song stands-out with its pulsing organ and patently soft harmonies, tailor-made for a sugary-sweet Pacific breeze. Check out a silly little video for the song below, and go to Art Fag to purchase the 7-inch.

HEAVY HAWAII - SUPER BOWL XXIX (Official Video) from Art Fag Recordings on Vimeo . Nothing that I love more than a video that is highly amusing despite containing no inside jokes that I even get, or anything else to explain what makes it so joyous. But Heavy Hawaii have always done this for me - can't even hope to dislike anything this band does because it's all fucking good. Their video for the new single Super Bowl XXIX [...]

Apologies for the missed January mixtape, hopefully this February 2012 one will soothe the ache I'm sure you all felt sans my monthly mixtapes. I had things to do like see the Thunder play, hang out in Washington DC and resume hating the English winter, but I've got my shit back together now, y'all. Enjoy: 01 Jack of Heart - Marry Me 02 The Obligatory Cripples - I Wanna Be Yr Boyfriend 03 Corners - Sometimes 04 King Khan & The Shrines - Bite My Tongue [...]

San Diego lo-fi psych-pop group Heavy Hawaii has a new 73 out now on Art Fag Recordings, containing three tracks. The title track for the release is called "Super Bowl XXIX" and manages to shift seamlessly from sun-drenched flower-power psych to a particularly sophisticated hook reminiscent of Woods, creating a multi-faceted tune that proves more rewarding with repeat listens. We have a download of the track below and look for the release at good record stores MP3: Heavy Hawaii - "Super Bowl XXIX"

It's a pretty special Sunday, whether you're in America or abroad - Super Sunday to be exact. And it's a great pleasure of mine to be posting Heavy Hawaii 's newest, wooziest jam Super Bowl XXIX . This frost covered cut from their brand new 73 via Art Fag Recordings sees our San Diego favorites hitting the high notes of Winter, the sparkling keyboards read like slowly falling snow. The guitars and the vocal harmonies remind me of the slow burning of ones fingers & toes walking into [...]
It's been ridiculously warm here in Virginia this winter. I think we've had three days of temperatures below freezing, as well as no snow here in the Richmond area. This is unheard of weather. I'm used to November/December/January being below freezing, and at least a month of 15 degree and below temperatures. Not so this year. It's 63 degrees today (73 yesterday!), so I thought I'd post Heavy Hawaii's "Super Bowl XXIX" that I nabbed off of Prefix Magazine's premiere . It seems to fit this strange weather atmosphere perfectly; it's unseasonably warm, but there's always that [...]

I don't know about you, but unfortunately I have like, responsibilities, so I'm in on this Sunday eve, hoping to heal the last remnants of hangover, so I made this down-tempo mix. It still rules, though. 01 Bitch Prefect - Marilyn Monroe 02 Weed Hounds - Beach Bummed 03 Sonny & The Sunsets - I Wanna Do It 04 The Meanest Boys - Strangest Things 05 Heavy Hawaii - Beacons 06 The Beets - Time Brought Age 07 Dead [...]

What a GORGEOUS weekend...weather wise....and people wise to (talking 'bout you my lovely lady). We've been outside pretty much the entire time, soaking in the sun, but not too... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Happy July 4th all my fellow Americans! I'm currently holed up in the dried up cornhusk that America came from, and I gotta say it's kind of weird spending my first ever July 4th away from America. This year I will not be having any hot dogs (a tragedy of the highest order) nor will [...]

The Rumble is back this month with a really impressive lineup- featuring Heavy Hawaii , our friends in White Arrows and San Diego's Ale Mania . It's happening at Bar Pink on June 11, and as always- is totally free. Heavy Hawaii are San Diego natives, if the music isn't obvious enough. Beachy surf pop songs that are lazy and hazy and all that good stuff San Diego music is known for. White Arrows recently had a Bootleg residency where they dedicated one night to Invisible Children. I was there, and [...]
